Every time I play QC I'm reminded of the technical marvel that this game is. It literally runs perfectly at all times, the net code is smooth and seamless and never fails, the hit reg is pixel perfect even at the worst of ping and highest of movement speeds. The engineers and programmers are truly God's Gift to the gaming industry, surely with ability prowess as masterful as them they should be working on secret government projects. Anyway back to the game, the balance is always perfect, the champions and weapons come together to give you a myriad of perfectly equal yet skillful combinations so you always can meet the challenges ahead. All combat interactions are so viscerally satisfying so much so that Im compelled to spend thousands of dollars on the lootboxes which heavily reward the consumer at all times.

This game is so stupid that I feel dumber and dumber everytime I launch it. I think you might have launched it one too many times

QC is great.

QC is perfect - sound engine is out of this world, netcode is the best of the best and champions balance plus their active abilities are so well thought out that you can write a book about them, Bible like material. Well done id/sabre!

it is ok, it could be way better if they had the right people working on it but it is enjoyable.

its like when of those bands release a shit album in comparison with their previous works but if you heard the album itself without knowing it comes from that band in particular you would still like it.

if you count fixing major almost game-breaking bugs, QC did a lot since its beginning, but much too late for the hardcore crowd (or retard crowd that still lurks here and continuously flames the game, depends on how you see it nowadays)

Nah, very far from that, maybe 200 at best. I was in the first wave of alpha full of hope and excitement and I indeed played some games every weekend until the Steam launch, but not a single game since that day, because I realized that it's broken beyond repair and it's delusional to wait for anything good from them (I think that they will leave it like this and just milk the community dry as long as they can).

Jugding by the charts they don't have much to milk :D. I hope this project dies quickly, before the official launch.

Why?

- poor netcode
- dumbed down gameplay
- ugly claustrophobic maps.

I wouldn't moan if they have only add classic gameplay as a 4fun mode, but they refuse to. Also sometimes thay take players ideas and instead implement them 1 to 1 they forces their twisted versions:
- twisted duel - almost noone wants to play rounds
- twisted tribolt - everyone wants GL
- twisted tdm - no friendly fire, no falling damage, timers
- twisted MG - stupid recoil and zoom dmg, etc etc

Time to bury multiplayer Quake and focus on singleplayer only, with a team that makes new Dooms, because the lore is the only thing that makes sense in QC.

There is always a possibility that faster it dies faster we get proper/another Quake (singleplayer maybe). Someone will learn that this was a mistake and won't defile this title again with stupid moba-ow-like ideas. This is how it affects me.

I mean I didn't enjoy the Q4 campaign, and I don't expect them to do a campaign like Q1 or Q2.

If they can't deliver proper multiplayer game then single player is the only way. Even remake would be nice.

It would be pretty good if they never added abilities. Overall, it is still pretty good, just not my cup of tea.

QC has strafe jumping that is the same as Q43A, but 100% serverside so it only works if you have low ping and get the left<>right arrow key movement on time

I’m going to actually try qc tonight. First time since patch that gave clutch the unreal dodges. I hope things have improved since then.

Okay I played it again and it has definitely improved since I last played. Shit. I might actually play it more.

Try it with more than 4 players.

Every game was more than four. I still see the flimsy engine at work and still think it’s fundamentally not quake enough. It’s less disappointing than it was a year ago but still needs tons of work.

It just needs proper id Tech 6 and competent devs, that's all. : D

Netcode is now way worse than early beta. The warping back than looked ridiculous, but shots/hitreg weren't as bad as now.

Since when are Q3/QL weapons 'the quake weapons'? Q3 with it's retarded mutilation of quake movement titled 'strafe jumping', sniping and straight form spawn machine gunning, both COD - military - shooter things, was just an earlier version of QC. That's why the best quake players who ever existed never even switched to Q3, just left the whole thing when QW really died out.

I loved both QW and Q3. People have different taste and preferences. Each Quake version offered a metric fuckton of maps, mods and modes to choose from, so everybody could find his or her cup of tea. Now all we have is a hopelessly broken engine and a closed creation built on it what you can like or gtfo.
This is not about if you can adapt to a new Quake version or not, it’s about accepting or refusing something fundamentally rotten in its core. I will play it when they will fix it, not before.

I dunno what kinda connection you have but I feel like the hit reg is vastly improved since 6 months ago. Nail gun is viable now even with 100 ping.

I have 500/100 mps cable. I have 24-25 ping to german and dutch servers, in short my net is pretty much 9.99/10.

I see rockets go way beside and past me, so I don't even react... but oops, the fkn game says "you'r dead, muhahaha" and rocket warps into me for a direct hit. Garbage. I get fkn ralied after going through a tele. Garbage. If there are more than 2-4 ppl on the servers nice big stutters that sometimes just take me back a step in my track as I move, are constant. Before we get into that BS too, my rig is very strong too, 1080 + 4.5ghz 6700k, 32 megs, I get 200-300+ fps (but I cap @ 165 with rivaserver nowadays).

The rocket registration is still odd. Seems like there’s a delay still lmao.

If you can get more fps, don't cap at 165. Engine and mouse input feels slightly better at 200 or above.

I tried out a few options, and this was my conclusion:

- capping in-game: terrible, lag & stutter, input lag spikes, but looks smooth (easier to track nmy) - 165 is my display refresh of course -

- 'nocap' in game: more responsive, less input lag, but very choppy especially when my fps is very out of sync with dispaly hz, wehich is all the time since I get 220-300+... might as well play on 60 hz monitor.

- capping with rivaserver: smooth + responsive like uncapped, by far the best.

Can you elaborate on how you use rivaserver specifically in that context please?

There is a small utility called RivaTuner Staitsitcs Server (similar thing to the more well known MSI afterburner utilities). You can get it from here:

Run it, it has a a "framerate limit" option, that's all. Set it your display refresh, for me this works as described above.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to know how much of this is true but the guy who suggested riva said it works better than other prog's like nvidia inspector's limiter, because it works before shaders load or something like that?? :)

Just be aware it does make an internet connection everytime it runs so you are best to block it on your firewall which should nicely result in it poping up a message crying about its lack of internet.

No idea why it connects, probably something to do with the "statistics" part.

It's called desync, if they hit you on their client side (their screen) it will register as a hit even if it looked like you dodged that rocket by a couple cm or were behind a wall/through a teleporter. Happens all the time, it's an annoyance but it happens to everybody and you're also doing it to others without knowing it.

It's more prominent in games were there is a lot of traffic during games and tickrate is too low. Hope they fix it.

I play QL duel pretty often and most of the time i dont have any trouble finding games.

The clue is in "most of the time".

Like 80 to 90 percent. Really its very rare when i sit befor the computer and cant play.

You play 10 games to qualify duel rank, I was at 9 now im back at 1 because they reset the stats.

QL always had a decent duel scene, it was playable because you can instantly server browse a server and also do rematches etc

QC only has MM garbage features and kicks you off server after every match then makes you wait endlessly for another player so personally I say it has no duel scene.

Ofcourse there are probably some of the better players doing custom QC games/duels but that dosent really make a community/scene for your low to mid skill playerbase if you ask me.

Im actually pretty much done with QL myself not because its a bad game - just after the 15 years or so I spent playing doom3 then q4 then QL duels I eventually decided about a year ago that I no longer have the desire to push myself to improve anymore.

A good new quake game might have changed that but I dont see that happening anytime.

Something I dont even think the DEV's of this game understand about, or if they do they dont care.

In Australia only the very very most popular games have the player numbers to operate on a matchmaking system. Pubg can run on MM, DOTA2 can run on MM because these games have the numbers for it.

The further and further down you go in popularity the longer and longer MM times become where it gets to the point that nobody is going to wait 50 minutes for a match, and at that point the population basically exterminates itself and is for most purposes now equal to zero

As every single new game these days relies on MM what I am seeing is the death of the multiplayer game scene in Australia. Most of these new games using MM that people in USA would find playable are not playable here.

Gone are the days when I could jump onto gamespy and check a games playerbase to determine if its worth buying. These days I just ask myself is it PUBG or DOTA level popularity, because if it isnt then I as an Aussie just probably should not buy it.

Server browser based games always worked because you just hit refresh and find the servers where people are at, but this era died and now we just have trash like the QC MM system that just is not worth the time to even boot that game up.

Now you can say haha poor aussies thats too bad but thats just how it is and thats fine, but im still allowed to say QC with its MM is unplayable.

I really think if QC had a server browser and knew how to load the next map it would be sitting closer to 20k than the 3k its at now. I dont see how the DEV's dont see the same but they must be happy with 3k I guess.

They take 1 match off every month you don't play so if you went from 9 to 1 it means you hadn't played for 8 months.

But I had. When the game went f2p on steam for 2 weeks (about 2 months ago) I expected it might have some form of playerbase for the next 3 or 4 days so I rushed in to get some duels done and I made it to 9 matches over afew days

Now im back at 1 match for some reason.

It dosent matter anyway. Its not like I would keep playing a game so stupid that it cant even load the next map in FFA after the previous one finishes.

As for duel I dont really expect them to keep loading next map with same player but even by myself I can come up with a better system than que wait match que wait match.

Yesterday I played the game first time after a couple of months. I'm actually surprised by game performance improvements. I must say FPS is much stable and above 100 all the time. It wasn't the case before and stuttering is no longer felt.

Gameplay wise, I'm ok with all the ability stuff in team game modes, but ffs it doesn't fit duel at all. Just keep the abilities for team game modes and let it serve for casual player base and let the pros battle in classic duel mode and the game can live for some time in the scene size comparable to QL from 2014-2016 I guess.
