you can do whatever you want, but it doesn't change the time and skill required to implement the decisions. 500 euros is not even enough to cover 2 full days of a professional developer's time, which is about how much time it would take a decent developer to begin to understand how everything is put together.

esreality is a tangled mass of bizarroworld MVC, where instead of having segregated parts for ease of maintenance and updates, each file is actually a mixture of model, view, and controller. it is a very stark reminder of pioneering php web development in the early 2000s, and a great case study for anybody who may want to understand why frameworks became so important over time.

the first thing that needs to happen with esr is to have the codebase refactored, which on esr would be the equivalent of untangling 10,000 shoelaces that have been tumbling in a dryer for 6,000 years. it's not a fun task.

the second option is to create a new code base using the existing database, and here you're looking at backwards compatibility between new code and old functionality, which is going to be a large source of bugs and other issues, and is going to require large amounts of time to troubleshoot and resolve for a site of this complexity and with so much history in its design and implementation decisions.

esr is the definition of piecemeal development. it was not designed to be maintained. it was designed to work.

the absolute simplest solution to complaints of esreality functionality and appearance is to simply build a new site. any other solution is like trying to upgrade an ape to a human through selective genetic modifications.
