Some of his past events hosting he was a one man show.
But again what's the point of calling him to host the tourney, you'll just get a professional who's not really into the thing, while if you keep faceit, ddk and zoot, you'll maybe get a bit less creativy and that spontaneous vibe 2gd brings and his cocky but effective humor... But you'll gain loads in love of the game, the hype of the event, the joy of being at quakecon, the emotions of the single person for being there after being in quake all year long.
FaceIt last year did an awesome job, interviews were GREAT, the location was ballistic, the relaxed atmosphere was cool, the quality level of the production was top notch for quake standards. The finals were QCony, but you can't do much in that case.

Given the fact that this is a mere theoretical excercise as 2gd won't be there because of dota and because of the fact he's now in competition with QL as the founder of another fps. So it's useless to call is name regardless..

I'll make my tought process as direct as possible: If you think what's QL state nowadays, there's no point taking an outsider with better skills (2gd, at this point, it's an outsider oblivious of most of the storylines and players shape\actual skill, or how the game evolved) over the ppl who truly love the game. Because he'll probably won't improve the thing that much.

we've very little knowledge about the americans, cypher have been getting 3-0'd by the evils' and strenxes' during the off-season since before 2gd left (probably). if he were hired to host quakecon. the 'storylines' ur talking about are about as useless as judging cooller for his practice games. with that said, i would still have to imagine 2gd would prepare for the event. tbh, as far as storylines goes, ctf is the clear winner in my book (if ukn- goes that is).

it really doenst matter if hes enaged in quake or not. he knows how to produce an entertaining show regardless. and for whatever insight you might want ddk and zoot who are engaged.

i asked him 10 minutes ago on his stream what does he think quake production should do to improve their show, answered he watched like a couple of matches from small events in the last year or so

You would always get a kickass commentary if you hired 2GD, regardless of him actually being up to date with the current player standings in Quake.

I would bet you actually feel the same way about the matter, even though it is not apparent from your comment. It is all a moot point though. As far as I know, The International is being held simultaneously as QuakeCon and 2GD will probably be doing some hosting at that event.

Beloved Zoot, please try to enjoy yourself while you're casting. We don't want an impersonal, distant and descriptive point of view. Don't censor any emotion and don't try to meet your own expectations of yourself. Sometimes I get the feeling that you are trying to live up to some ideal or standard that you have set. That seems to be limiting you!If you aspire to match a certain standard in your casting, you will lack spontaneity since you'll be under pressure!

We want to get pulled into the action by relating to authentic and real emotions! Last QuakeCon I got the feeling that someone or something offered DDK a possibility to get ride of all his "fears"; he was so comfortable, so uncensored, so original. He enjoyed himself!

What I am trying to say: less head, more heart. And since I know that it is not as simply followed as it is writing it down, maybe these last sentence will be able to push you over the edge of your mental boundaries:

The quality of your casting suffers when you willingly try to direct it towards seriousness. Don't try to make it appear "professional".

The larger the stage, the more frightening the idea of just being oneself becomes! But, even if there were thousands watching you: everyone that is watching has a human core. And that core is not interested in seeing or listening to a role, to a mask. Drop all your ideas of what a commentator should say or do! Each one of those spectators wants to relate to the parts inside of you that are alive, original, authentic, dancing, radiating! So if you really want to be entertaining -- relax and forget about everyone else's judgement. Their judgement only counts when there's something inside you giving them any true value, power. So try to get hold of your inner mental censors and your projections. I believe that you and your casting would benefit hugely by you trying to observe your mental and emotional responses regarding casting on a broader stage.

You can be yourself everywhere; your inner state is the only thing that it depends on.

All that I have written comes form my personal experience and has helped me a lot. I wish you all the best!

A suggestion to make the coverage even better this year would be to capture more 'contextual' content. Capture the public lan area and maybe some of the regular people that go there. Give us more of an idea of what it is actually like to be at qcon. Maybe even record a few seconds of an establishing shot of the outside of the convention center.

All the interviews and the stuff you did last year was great, keep it up.

Also please keep pov switching to a minimum!

Guest commentators are great too, but you should make sure at the beginning of every game to give a run down of who's with you, etc because the games are often split up and watched on youtube.

I don't think watching random people play games which aren't Quake really fit with the whole "Quake tournament stream" idea.
