Don't understand that kind of reasoning. When listening to a stream you "download" anyway. Except you don't have a file available if you want to listen to parts again later, so you have to "download" a second time in that case.

And just for the records, I do support the audio-only format. Got that mp3 in a minute, and I don't see how looking at one or two faces while listening would substantially enhance the format.

Reasoning: I'm lazy. Takes more clicks.

Plus, lots of people are too busy to spend 35 minutes looking at a video of two guys talking - much more efficient to listen to them talking whilst doing something else.

Someone support me on this, as I feel I'm going out on a limb saying that Quake players have other important things going on in their lives...

The game might be from the 90s but our podcasts certainly dont have to be.

well ideally we'd like to stream it live, but it's a long way to go. also podcast is an audio format and not oudtated at all, so for now we're sticking to it.

Actually podcasts are really popular nowadays. There are podcasts popping up constantly, from people with few ideas and in love with a sport, cooking, cinema, the showbusiness and WHATNAT.

Any american sport website i can think of has a podcasts section, even those trying to renew how to cover sport and push it over the limit like grantland still use and have been using podcasts massivly.

The reasoning is simple: it's more accessible. It's a lot easier for everyone (us included). And you won't lose anything if you don't see our faces staring at a fucking screen for half an hour, given what the format of the show should be.

So thanks everybody for the feedback but it being a podcast had solid motivation behind.

This reminds me shows done by Slasher and djWheat after each big Quake tournament at late night. It was very good except the 'God bless hamburgers' aspect, so you can get some inspiration out of it.

random idea: record some tier 2 CA from a fixed pov and let it play in the background - just so there's some movement in the video, s_vol 0, lay your podcast over it, upload to youtube, link mp3 for those who prefer that and post as news on esr?!

IMHO the pure audio is just so out of context, first alternative would be a still image, which is almost as bad; slideshow can look cheap as well;

dis+vor played some demo in the background but it was high level which made me concentrate on the video too much

a fixed camera on some highly contested area could make the viewer identify better with the topic, puts the talk into the context of the game and is not too distracting

Yeah I liked it as well. Was listening to the podcast and practicing some jumps in ql the format is nice.

I liked almost everything about it. I always wanted a casual weekly review show of quake. If you keep doing this maybe you can add sections to the show. Say tournament coverage, recommended games, some map/ql update reviews, what to look out for in the following week. You already did most of this but not very well structured.

Hope to see more and hope to see you guys unbanned from quake live soon!
