I pre ordered it some time last week and played a couple matches. It's quite hard to get into, I find it appealing to play.

Feels more like a CoD rather than CS imo.
Which is why most of the pro players really whine.
But in the end, competitions are moving on towards this game, so they will follow the $$ eventually ;)

Tried one game on a friend's computer who had access to the beta... I haven't played CS 1.6 in more than two years, and I could tell after five seconds how much the gameplay is a joke compared to how crisp the 1.6 gameplay is. It's a real shame tournaments are switching to CS:GO.

I am going to assume he is simply referring to how, these days on modern engines, you can't reproduce the snap like quality of a quake2 engine game.

I might be totally off the mark, but I did play that incarnation of cs for some time and I find many modern shooters sluggish in comparison to the speed and lightness of 1.6.

hl/cs1.6 is based on the quake engine.

My mistake!

OpenGL based engine is what gives you that snap like and crisp quality. Every single game released on these heavy opengl quake engines always felt 100 times smoother and responsive than any other engine out there.

Physics are really approximative, you can't really get a hold on the straffing mechanics. It feels like you are floating.
No matter what people think (especially on a quaker board like ESR :p), CS1.6 was quite precise when it came to bunnyhop / silent run / crouch tricks etc
You also don't really get a feeling when you hit or not, it's difficult to explain, but in 1.6, even w/o quake style hitbeeps, you naturally feel when you hit. In CSGO it's more like "let's deliver random sprays and pray".

In a nutshell, feels like BF or CoD in all its randomness, but they keep releasing updates improving the whole thing though.

Do you think the updates will keep going after release, often enough to actually make it feel crisp? I don't like CS as a competitive game, but that crispness was always something I liked.

I would count on Valve/HPE to keep rolling releases out.
I'm in the beta since last november and have seen couples of improvements.
The game has a lot of potential (current playing stats are already higher than CS+CSS combined), so my guess would be that they will take care of the game, unlike CS1.6, because this time it's made on purpose.
But I don't think they will entirely fix the physics, as it's a really big change. Bear in mind that what we call "fix" isn't necessarily what casual players like ;)
And that's what CSGO is all about, refresh and profit from the CS brand, trying to grind market shares from COD and all that.
But surprisingly and in total contradiction with that, they involved pro players in the process, to improve the game's competitive features...
We all know that casual/esport combined within a game is somewhat impossible to achieve, so time will tell :)

Tryed BETA like 5-6 hours pub games, it's fun. I think I will play it till REBORN will come.

mkeiy and lepolac basically summed it up. Less responsive, less precise, less crisp. In 1.6, every millimetre/pixel mattered. Here, not so much.

is it difficult to find games and how long do the games/rounds last on average. I usually only get about 30 mins a night to play anything.

Games are really easy to find (since it's new?). The average round takes between 30mins and 1 hour.. but it really depends on how even the teams are I guess.

I must admit im playing it, i bought a key for u$s 13 lol really cheap. Why im trying it? Because i had always bashed cs but i never played it. So being such a popular game, with a new version that looks pretty good and is light on hard requirements (compared to other current games) plus some friends of a bf2/3 clan id played asking me to try it etc...

It undoubtly drains less human resources than playing quake. Netcode isnt perfect but good enough. Planting the bomb or defusing it gives a good dose of adrenaline rush. I will keep playing and see if i get hooked, not to replace quake cause for me quake is the best, but as a secondary game. Ive realized for some time that playing differente games, having to adapt to different tactis and controls etc, is good.

with headphones, tell me if you notice a difference with the headphones setting or stereo speakers setting. i saw a blog post regarding a change in how they do crossfading.

I tried the headphones setting and got static noises every now and then so I changed it back to 2 speakers.

these are currently seen as optimal values. interp_ratio depends on your connection somehow, don't really know how it works.

I suppose it halves the actual packets sent trough the network, cause i see most servers configured with 64pkts/s and 128 x 1/2 = 64. Im prolly wroung cause i see cl_interp 0 there and it must disable it tho.

My first clan experience in any game was in CS beta 4.0 back in 1999. Played a lot of CS over the years, and I feel like I'm getting addicted again with CS:GO. It's a really fun game and brings back great memories, though the recoil on some of the guns in GO is very difficult to control at the moment

Seeing the game on streams, via GeT_RiGhT stream or so, the game (fights) feels so damn random. At least in CS 1.6 you could tell who is good and who isn't.

How's the performance on low-end hardware?

notebook i5,4gb ddr3 , gt540m , with 1024x7... and medium/high settings I get around 70-120 fps in most maps and fights (120fps maxed, without cap, I would go to 140-150 MAX i guess..
Noticed, what 640x480 doesnt give you single extra fps vs 1024x7... and some high settings vs low (maybe it's becose navidia control panel settings to force in all games). Best way, to create your own game without bots, stand in open area map and go to settings, change it , apply and look and net_graph 1 fps... You don;t need to restart game like it was in 1.6 cs, just apply and wait.

Is there any in-game stuttering or freezes? How does the netcode feel compared to older Source-based games?

I have played to little and in ~50-60 ping servers, so it's hard to judge it. Before last big update (still in beta), game was more smooth, they a little fucked something, but it's going be better after next update I guess.

played a little 1.6, and a tiny bit of css - figured its worth a shot to keep me occupied.

People shouldn't be comparing it to 1.6, it's a totally different game. I've had the beta since it came in November and I started playing a lot just recently. It's definitely great fun to play with mates, just like any good fps game.

A big positive thing is you get 10 queries on irc instantly if you search in #5on5.csgo - no more waiting needed.

Some stuff like the spray with rifles takes some time to get used to, I haven't nailed it yet with 109 hours played. Things are still subject of change even though it's out of beta, I'm hoping to see a proper in-game ladder or rating system and spectator options for high level games and tournaments. I think we're still up for some good additions and changes to this game.

Try it out, chances are you'll enjoy it. I do! =)

ok i tried the casual modis. maybe im finding games dependent on my low ELO. its cool most players dont camp, they run loudly through the maps (footsteeps are very loud). no camp orgys is a plus for me at the moment.

i have difficulties with the weapons. yes i played not much cs in the past. im too bad for headshots? i see people with rifles (non zoom weapons) but they shoot on the upper body. so what is the best? and i dont seeing much players that duck and shoot. but in left 4 dead 2 (im playing versus / confogl) duck shooting was very exact without much spray.

weapon characteristics are differ much? need an advise. i mean in black ops i got in 5 minutes that headshots are not working (and later read HS are broken in black ops). is there a good guide in the net about cs.

in l4d2 versus it is sometimes important to be fast as survivors and rush through the whole map without slowing down (faster = less attacks from hordes and special infected). i feel it a bit in l4d2, not sure if its overall important. i didnt test it in csgo if its working.

what do you think, is multi cpu support now working? in l4d2 it was broken.

I played a little bit, feels like an overall solid game, though i'm not much of a CS player, i've had fun. People bitching about it feeling less crisp than the original have a point, but i don't think it detracts from the gameplay that much if you're used to playing source games.

for quakers it's suits a lot more then 1.6 cs. you can shoot more moving and so on.
In general atm i like it more then 1.6 LOL :)))) I would give it more wallbanging, better friction and bunny hopping.

yeah, so stop slower and you cant bunnyhop so fast, atm it's faster to run, when bhope. but aceleration is faster so 1st jump is faster, but I like it, you can strafe from corner if someone waits you and don't get HS first, like it was in 1.6, when 5 guys rushing and one guy sprais to heads and all die...

the fights always seem random, even if i pump 20 shots into one player while constantly tapping fire it doens't do anything.. getting frustrated!

after playing 5 hours I felt same. atm played ~12-15 hours and and now I can spray much better. ofcors still most kills comes from 2-5 bullet sprays.

its 2012, not 1999. more realistic, more detail, more fun. just 1.6 bitches crying... I always wanted same detailed with lot of shit maps in Q3/QL.

Source engine is still shit, everything about it excepting the shaders. Made the pro-t4 remake for HL2 DM the map was already finished and I had to stop because there wasn't a proper way to make jumpads work as they work in q3.

give me a break. whats so fun in barrels all over the map? or cans? it's useless. I don't mind detail but this is just ridiculous. not to mention that that maps seem too small for the player models.

look at cspromod maps, that doesn't feel like its 1999 and yet looks great.
