too bad there are no QL server in the Middle and North Africa,i would have get a team and play in this league (home/away or just an equal ping server in middle africa). too bad...

The interesting thing about having a server in central africa would be that we (South Africans) would actually be able to play people from Europe, not decently, but acceptably. A server in central africa could give us pings of 70 to 90 each way, depending on routing.

How big is the scene in Tunisia? I find it strange that you guys don't have good connections to Europe, since you are just over the sea. I get like 30-40 ping to Johannesburg from Cape Town, and thats 1600km away. (About the same distance between Tunisia and locations in Italy, Greece and Spain. )

Unfortunately a big problem would be routing. It would be great if they could lay a line directly down the middle of Africa, but um, there are logistics problems. Like people digging up the cables for the copper.

well,there are some QL players in North-Africa (Morroco,Algeria and Tunisia) maybe almost 100 active players.

we ping the best in France (like 70 - 90 like you said,and sometimes at very late time at nights,we can get like 65),there are no servers in italy cause i think we would ping best in there.

our connections are not that good tbh,i got a 1mb ADSL (my ping goes to 500+ everynight from ~20:00 to ~00:00)

having middle African servers would be very great,all African players will finally have some servers with equal pings,and with that we can make an african scene and know finally who is the best QL player in Africa (imo,ELO doesnt show anything )

but,like i said,ID would never do that,too bad really :/

We would need to know people in Nigeria or Ghana to host servers too, and I don't think anyone plays quake there.

As to who is the best in Africa, I would still say it's Ph4ntom, he's just insanely good, and if he went to go live in Europe he could compete in the top 16. (Although my personal opinion would be top 8).

However I've never seen anyone from North Africa compete in any tournaments though, where as Ph4ntom has competed in International tournaments and has placed well once or twice.

Who would you say is the top North African quake player?

well,im the best Quake 2 player in Africa but there are no international lans to play in for q2.

but for QL,i really dont know,i won vs all north african players that i played vs (exept 1 wish is yojji,played vs him when i started ql)

Unfortunately,there are no QL tournaments in north africa to decide who is the best and who are the top 3.

and for Ph4ntom,i personally dont think he can be placed in top 8,it is hard to became good in europe (it is full of cheaters and pro players).

well,i played in euro servers and my goal is to became very good till the summer (not that hard task).

and i think there are some players in middle africa that can host some servers,or maybe,we can rant some servers in there and host our servers (but it is still illegal and we can get banned for that)

I lived in europe for 3 years recently so I had plenty of time to play with people, so I know the level of play. Although it would be difficult to place highly at the start, he is extremely talented and after a few months of prac he would start placing highly.

Anyway, the guys in the quake scene in South Africa are surprisingly good, especially when it comes to control and strat, the only thing I would say they are weak at is aim, where europe have much better players in this regard.

Anyway, speculation is just speculation, having some central african servers would be cool :) I wonder how much it is to rent a server in Nigeria?

It would be great to have more duels/TDM's with other African players to get to know how skills compare across countries. Maybe one day we will get there when Quake Virtual Reality 3 is out :D

We can only judge players by what they have achieved and not what about they say. Ph4ntom can be judged to be the best Quake 3 / Quake Live player in SA due to the results he has produced and being consistent.

As for being the "best" Quake 2 player in Africa, I don't recall a Quake 2 African tournament taking place to determine this claim....

well,there was a time where i tryed my best to search for all q2 players in africa,i found some and played vs them (some got cought cheating tho)

also,i wanted to set an african q2 tourney but there are not much players and most dont have time,its not that i dont want to,its the total opposite.

i play with the euro q2 scene right now.

It's funny you say that you doubt my ability for top 8 when I have already achieved it. And honestly speaking, I don't know why you're so hung up on quake 2... besides, you may only think you're good at this game cause nobody plays it anymore.

I did spectate one of your QL duels recently and I can't believe you think it'll take you a couple months to get "good" at the game. Well, then again, I don't know what your level of good is. You still have many years to go in QL before you'd be able to compete with the top 10 we have in South Africa

also,the reason why i wanted to have middle african servers is to show and to find out WHO are the best african players.
