Not surprised with all this TDM hype and cups every other day. Haven't seen a quality high level CTF match in like what, 6 months? (note: as official team vs team + streamed, not draft or mix).

If you want to have a CTF tournament where the winner isn't predictable, now is the time to put up some money (500/1000 euro) and let teams form. Because most players are split up now and joined up with different teams. Will be less predictable than TDM usually is, so the upsets might entertain.

CTF players so up themselves they need money to form a team.. Must be a fun mode to compete in.

Because TDM tournaments w/o prize money are filled with talent and proven to be quite successful in the long run when kept being organized every single week to 'entertain' us.

When did colwn, Reason, METSU, srs or 4Kings that been to dreamhack compete after that tournament in a TDM tournament w/o prize money in their original lineup. Exactly, none of them.

People started mixing up teams again and the people stopped caring to play seriously in a competitive mode with their own teams.

So instead if wasting 500 to 1000 euro's (ESL 2v2 TDM f.e.) on something totally useless and predictable, maybe get multiple team modes going again with incentive to play, instead of acting like eSports is build on joy, pink ponies, fluffy animals and colorful rainbows, some incentive can be set to get it going.

A few weeks after DreamHack, the first LAN in TDM in literally a decade and in which time we have had a couple of 1 days cup, is not representative of the TDM scene. Even so in ESH we had 4Kings vs aCtion in the final (both DreamHack teams).

Metsu and 4Kings have been two of the most active teams in all online cups in the past 2 years and have competed in plenty of events with no prizes. Serious too for a shorter amount of time.

Personally I don't care if Reason or colwn don't play in these online cups, eventually it will just allow those that do to overtake them and we will have even more exciting TDM events. The "pros" like you that cant be bothered to play unless you get a weeks wages should not be the focus of a community that wants to grow.

If CTF wants to be given the opportunities it once had with big prizes and all the focus of the developers then the players in that mode need to step up and prove that its worth any investment, and a one day cup should be easy to fill.

There's 96 teams signed up for hoqleague, I think its just that noone reads esr every day in the CTF community.

It's not about needing it, it's about suggesting that it will promote signups and thus increase competition and the value of the entire tournament.

Would strenx play Zotac every week when there wasn't 100 euro to grab? Don't think so. Would teams like Reason, colwn or srs bother to compete in a TDM tournament when there was not at least something to gain from it (either prizes or preparation for something with prizes)? Nope.

What do people request for Quake Live the most? Ladders. What are ladders? Incentive to play.

When you play a game like Quake that has been around for so long, you need those incentives to get the majority going. It works like that for all activities that require effort, dedication and performance.

You are right Blade but QL doesnt need people who will only play when there is a price. I prefer those players to quit the game so only people who play it for fun and really love it will be active. At the very end only real quakers will keep playing, a few of them, but enough for some great games. That is how it should be.

They turned up without practice and got 2nd place against really active American teams. Plus they didn't have toxic ;)

they did practice before qcon 2010. And I don't think that toxjq is a much better (if at all) defense than spartie.

with his sad rockets i assume he is going to fail if his 2nd def does not bring him shaft 24/7. also ctf requires a different set of skill and just putting high skilled in a team (unlike tdm) does not help you to win ctf games. the only player that knows what he is doing is linkje in that team and spartie. deus and stermy sure have experience but i would not count them as ctf'lers. btw. if you put 4 linkje in a team you win every tournament. >D

I wasn't around for the old days, but I remember seeing lots of CTF against high skilled opponents in fisted-by-deus. Are you sure he doesn't know what he's doing?
