hmm, im not sure if it would spread the community any further, its not comparable to a gamemode like ft or ca. it would get people into quake that currently do not play it and it would motivate and help new players to work on their movement and that is a big thing imho
a central and automatically updated highscore for each map would really own and it should be easily doable with ql

The game is playable and fun and there are enough maps now. At least from my perspective. The majority of players don't even like dreadfulplace/purgatory and leviathan has been kicked out of mappools. The pools are big enough so famous old maps like the now fixed dm7 aren't in it anymore. We got enough...for now.

Still I think those things are very low priority. I just wanted to point out that we have enough content atm, i.e. maps.

If there was an update with high priority stuff atm I think it should be to fix the overall game experience which is still a bit behind sometimes.

- fix sound. I still don't hear all hitsounds depeding on what other sounds are played.

- weird lag/jittering of some enemies even if their ping on scoreboard appears very good.

- fix fps drops on some maps in some locations.

- fix strange mouse behavior -- from my experience the changes are minimal so the more casual players probably won't realize there are random changes. Still I think many players suffer from this.

With the maps we got and a more stable gaming experience QL could stay like this for years, imHo. :)

What good is a focus group that can't sort out the main issues that are bugging the whole game (e.g. sound, netcode, spawn system, etc.)? Primarily the focus guys should push the game development towards completion.

Well, judging by the development status of QL and the look of the updates that are sparsely being released, either the input or the suggestions of this very group are not productive enough to be taken account of or the developers don't care much about their opinions. Either way the sense of a focus group would be questionable.

how about the third option:

id decides on changes and does them, then those are presented to the focus group first instead of testing them at everybody. The focus group can then give feedback, which id implement at their own discretion.

people who are paying customers have a legitimate beef now to complain about a service where nothing is being added or improved. It's coming up on 2 months now since the big patch. Before you know it, 1 year will be past and we'll have 1-2 major patches since then, and they'll expect us to pay again. How is that any different than beta? They still don't communicate at all, even after we give them money.

It makes them looking REALLY bad to non-paying customers and does not encourage them to pay a penny. Why pay if content will arrive at the same pace it did before premium/pro?

I expect RA3 mode/maps and all threewave maps / CTFS in either this patch or next. If not, I will not re-subscribe next pay cycle.

Can't say I have a problem with any of the ads, even the pregame ad itself isn't bad. What's stupid is the artificial delay they put in, for no other reason I can think of other than piss people off enough to pay up to get rid of the delay.

They are well aware there's a vid_Restart after the ad that doesn't need to be there, yet they make no comment on it or do nothing about it. So it's obviously designed the way it's working, which if that's how they're going to be they can go sit on a fist and spin.

For a measly $50 quakelive is worth it. You get to make servers, have plenty of regions to pick from, more maps, and it's very fun. It's worth it.

There are people here that started playing when Quake 3 Arena came out. That's almost 11 years times 50 bucks.

the simplest way to look at this is that a single-player game is like a book that you buy, and read, and get to the end of. the multiplayer is like a website or magazine subscription for a certain continuously evolving process, which never ends. in which case a one-time fee and a subscription fee makes more sense?

erm i'd intended to stay out of this but ur use of "principle" was hilarious enough to change my mind. it was bad enough asking for a subscription fee when the community was highly skeptical about the pace at which the ql project was moving along in the first place. to then have 2 months without any major updates and then renege on a promised update is hardly encouraging to a new user. in terms of building credibility with the user base i would say they've failed so far. i do hope things change tho. as with most of the other guys here, i expect i will pay for one year simply because of the residual feelings of how great q3 as a game is. but if they dont implement things like gtv+casting within the website, ladder system, something similar to irc, and an improved networking/media aspect to the website i will prolly not keep paying.

edit: o i forgot maps. altho thats the one thing with which they seemed to have sorted their issues out. for now atleast.

Uh not when there's not enough people playing. If you're pro and make a server you need to be premium to join it, if not. "Invite up to 3 friends".

Honestly if quake had another 5,000-10,000 players that actively played in the NA and Europe then maybe we can talk about this being a useful $50. But it's not.

Quake 3 Arena wasn't free. It cost $49 new. The community isn't as big as it was/could be, because we are basically playing a game that is 11 years old and honestly does have a steep learning curve (if you've never played a quake-styled game).

Still, for all the available servers, ease of use/install, server saved config files (when it works..), etc., it's worth $50. People spend $15 a month for MMORPGs so how is $50 for a year a bad deal? Now, if content isn't added in timely manners, and if support is non-existent, than I can see reason to complain. Give it time, more content is coming!

All we hear is we're working, then they mention there will be a rehash of the unlagged code.
To be honest about this. If the get payed for work, then we know they are working on most commented stuff in quakelive, like the aforementioned unlagged code. What tehy are doing, are they testing it, are they just starting, ETA, general description etc. would be more helpful

They should introduce a newb friendly gametype as a priority imho, something with 32 players, large maps, all weapons on spawn or perhaps just rl & sg - teams and maybe even turrets or vehicles, team arena runes, fighting over flags or something. (Holiday CTF?!!?) Encourage new signups to try that mode first.

Or CTFS, the newbs would like that one too moreso than CA.

Yeah yeah people on here aren't going to be impressed by that but atm I think that if a newb joins up and goes to play FFA they are going to spawn/die/spawn/die/spawn/die for 20 minutes and then not bother again and fook off to COD4. If a newb joins CA they usually get booted off the server because they are causing imbalanced teams and I think the CTF servers are probably too high level for a newb. Sure some newbs stick at it but I bet its only 5-10%.

FT was more newb friendly I thought but its not free! Very very strange decision.

If CTFS is CTF where you spawn with guns, I think that would be the best 'noob friendly' mode.

Someone posted an irc log of Sync on the quake live forums stating that there are 4 maps to today's update: a duel/2v2 map, 2 small CA maps, and 1 ffa map. If this is true, no spider xings for you sir!

Today's update introduces 4 new arenas to QUAKE LIVE, improvements to our Skill Ranking system, and an extension of our existing Invite-to-Match system. Our Premium content Map Pak includes Devilish, a wonderfully Gothic themed map suited for Duel or small teamplay, and three small Clan Arenas including two highly requested Rocket Arena 3 fan-favorites: Somewhat Damaged and Thunderstruck. im fine with lvl^ streams. not longer do i have to worry to miss something because the streamers stand in contact with the players.. may i remind you of that extreme periods of waiting time in the gtv waterfall waiting room when you didnt know whats going on.

there were really good things about gtv like the quality and the funny spectator spams.. but many stuff was actually worse compared to the hq streams we have now.

If we had GTV, we would have GTV demos of Quakecon, but since we don't and they lost the most interesting demos, we have nothing.

I don't think they would as was shown with the recent CPM TDM Nations Cup, there was GTV but there was also a stream. If commentary features aren't integrated into GTV, there's no incentive to move away from streams, so they would still exist.

And quite frankly, if GTV pushes people away from streams then it's equivalent to darwinism, the better solution wins out in the end.

if i were a streamer and the number of people watching would drop below 100 because of another 100 watching gtv - that would srsly demotivate me
