Exactly what they're doing, organizing a competition with a lot of good players, meaning lots of people will watch and read these news items, thus bringing attention to SilentGamers as a cause/organization.

I know that if I had any deaf friends that played games, I'd refer them onto SG to check it out now that I know of its existence.

and what's that cause/organisation doing? paying for surgery? getting developers to create less sound-dependent games?

I don't get the point behind making people aware there's deaf gamers, to me this is pretty much "COOL STORY BRO".

It's the fact that when people are watching this tournament they will be enlightened on deaf and hard of hearing gamers. Just by having the tournament name as "Silent Gamers" will already bring awareness to this. There could could several gamers out there that are deaf and hard of hearing, and have no clue there are many others out there. This deaf player could also never watch ql.tv or esl or whatever streams unless there is something major with the caliber of players such as this. So just by chance he watches this, realizes how small the world really is and is linked up with other silent gamers. Also consider that some people, if they feel strongly about a cause or are very entertained by something, might be willing to donate. Think about if this tournament actually did only have deaf or hard of hearing gamers. Do you think it would get near the publicity it did? Do you think it would have raised near as much awareness as it already has? something to ponder...

If it's a tournament designed to obtain attention and publicity, it's a publicity stunt. That's not always a negative connotation. You didn't have to explain to me why it being a publicity stunt is a good thing.

It's a gee-wiz-golly bear-hugging skip-to-my-loo fun for everyone tournament which all can enjoy.
