The hitboxes for all the models are the same. Tankjr is a lot larger than the hitbox, it's mostly used for visibility's sake. Keel is pretty close to the hitbox size.

Since the latest patch I get the feeling i'm missing a lot of 100% sure hits. Mostly when I have ping lower then 40 vs people with ping higher then 60 it seems.
It's not really frustating me as i'm just a casual player, but I wonder if a lot people have it.

My experience: The higher your ping, the more shots will be registered behind the model. I already notice it on servers ping 40+ and this is ridiculos! I am forced to play on servers from my location and this sucks.

Its still better than before the update altought its the opposite case now. Before the update hits were properly registered on ping 60+ but on low ping...

I hope they will look into this issue again but I doubt they will :-/

I have the same. Many through the center of the body rails, very close to the body rockets that do not do any splash damage and even locked on the body shaft without any hitsounds. The most usual and obvious are the missing rails. It seems to me that it depends on both connections and propably the ping difference and not only on your ping. It is like some connections are not compatible.

That is, if we assume that everybody uses cl_maxpackets 125. Probably a lower setting could affect gameplay and possible some ppl are abusing that, Maybe it would be a nice idea for iD to lock this to be above a certain high value. But all this is theoretical.

Threre ppl that I play against, where what I see in the monitor matches with what I hear (the hitsounds) and there others where that is a completely different story, and hasn't anything to do with my ping, since I always try to play with the same 59-64 ping.

Assuming SyncError's screenshots are legit, with cg_scalePlayerModelstoBB 1 tankjr is by far the best fit (when stationary). All the others are much skinnier.

i still use tankjr, mainly for visibility like others have said. regardless of the size of the model, i still aim for the center of it, not the edges. although my aim isn't amazing, it's largely been unaffected by the changes.

Well, I must say that in general my shaft has decreased a tiny little bit but I'm getting used to it. I definitely put more thought into weapon desicions as before i.e. when to use shaft and when other weapons.

I do like the feel of the new hitbox as well and it does feel more natural and more responsive. However, I think the ping issue has come up again since people with a higher ping are now in the disadvantage. I guess not everybody can win. However, if your ping is not above 60 you should be fine.

My rocket has definitely improved since the last game due to sv_fps 40 and the overall smootheness that comes with the gameplay. I do think that it was a neccessariy step to make quake more competive.

I do, however, agree with mg and sg being a bit underpowered. But then again, was Quake ever really balanced? Every weapon can be abused if used well (sg + quad etc.) You just gotta know to use what weapon when.

i think lg is too strong again. its harder to hit because of smaller hitboxes especially in far range. but if an enemy isn't dodging in far range, because he is running away, it's easy to hit a lot.

also in mid range its again like really hard to kill an lg with rockets because you must hit every rocket to kill the enemy bevore he kills you. i think of dm6, lg standing in mega room, rockets coming through shotgun entry really fast und try to kill lg. it's nearly the same as it was in q3.

they changed vertex lightning in the last patch. i dunno exactly what they did but i also had to adjust my cfg so that it would look normal again.

Frankly, since Cooller was the only top player surveyed, his opinion is the only one I (and you, if you enjoy watching quake) should care about. Pity they didn't ask a few others - a sample of one doesn't really tell us much.

The wider hitbox allowed good lgers to hit 40 acc average and rail 60.

All top players would hit pretty much what they aimed at, which meant item control/ prediction of the enemy/ timing and position were much more important.

The aim game was not much of a decider in games. Now it is a bit different - like OSP. Aim is a huge skill gap for most now. If you can still lg 40% with this hitbox - that shows you have great skill, but aim only is garbage. I would take a game of wits versus a game decided with aim.

Before the patch - pros could hit high acc but still lose, since they were out played. Now the guy that hits the most will probably win.

Cooller was able to use rail more because of the hitbox - but that meant the other guy had to bring his mind game with him to beat cooller that day, which was infinitely more fun to spectate than all aimers - like linkin or strenx.

(CZM is a nice combination of aim + smarts)
(toxic's aim was so bullshit that made it enjoyable to spec him)

Quake Live should be more like CPMA style. Without XERP.

CPMA allowed people to play with 80-100 pings versus lpbs and still compete fine. Which was great...

The patch should have only fixed rails behind doors, and introduced sv_fps 40. The balance with hitscan and lagless rockets/projectiles would have been perfect.

Anyway, the way to fix quakelive would be to restore models to their original size, every model was scaled down with r_scalemodelstobb command in closed beta. It was locked to 1 and shrunk all models.

They should unlock this command - make the models original size and make the hitboxes bigger - to compensate for the cylindrical models we have now.

I always have to write "reconnect" in the console after the 1st try in order to join a game now. Didn't had this before the update.

i am 100% confident in my own observations, and i can safely say that the netcode was reverted back to the old horrible netcode, only the hitboxes were reduced.

when the netcode+hitbox update came in, i remember my shots hitting well and not hitting anyone's trails and registering successful shots, but after the santa map + model update all that went back to pre-netcod eupdate, meaning they reverted the netcode changes, and only have the cylinder hitbox present.

i'm fairly sure something is wrong, because i get trailing shots with my rail just as i did before, but not as explicit as before due to the smaller hitbox.

syncerror said he'll investigate, but haven't heard any words from him since...

i dunno, i think i'm a fairly credible source when it comes to bugs in quake live, as i've been one of the few people that first noticed the shitty netcode, first reported it, and then predicted what's going to happen...

if you don't have anything better to do (and you probably don't since u're trying to troll me) go read a column i wrote half a year back which was titled 'ID Software, your to do list' on this very website, and you'll see how much of my 'to do list' came true even though it was just predictions.

also, check out 2 huge videos on youtube which were the first 2 videos to actually make syncerror and the rest of the ID bunch recognize the netcode bug officially in public.

Well it obviously feels better for low ping but for high ping players its much worse. I find it fucking crazy that you can't play with over 60 ping and not be at huge disadvantage in 2010.

I doubt they'll make any changes to the net codeing any time soon but ping has never been a bigger issue since osp.
