Q4's TDM scene lasted longer than Quakelive's. There aren't enough solid players in Quakelive to even have competitive teams. Also don't read that and think "did he just call everyone bad?". Chances are if you read this you're included in the 'list' of solid players. And don't ask me who's on the list. Check AGP rankings. Making lists is not my task.

This is true. However the few solid players that are around could start scrimming about and kind of kick start things off. It also does kind of blow with the lack of "pro" tdm servers around. The "pop in/pop out at your leisure" tdm sucks major ass.

indeed. it would be great if they were able to advertise 'pickups' on the home page, link it to irc, then have a bot of some kind which could spawn servers when a topic filled. just some kind of pickup function for tdm would be great, with a simple guide i dont see any problem in the average ql newb getting involved either.

I think the problem stems more from QL's lack of competitive features. OSP and CPM made things a lot easier for pubs to get real 4v4s going. Who wants to play a TDM game when some newb can join at random and screw things up? Of course we could play on private servers, but TDM needs a healthy pub base to survive.

I've gotten tired of CA/FFA/CTF too, and have enjoyed playing TDM, and I wish there was more of it. I've seen more TDM servers than I used to notice before, but that's probably just me finally noticing them. I liked watching 2v2 TDM especially.

I agree, butcher. The lack of more players for TDM sucks, and is disheartening now that I've gotten into it. It's a great gametype and one I'd love to get into competitively later on, but I doubt anything will happen to TDM before ctf/duel (since they seem to be the most popular).

duels pretty much the only mode playable without private servers. its not that na lacks tdm players. we have less super good players than euro land possibly since tdm hasnt been played much in so long but theres still enough players interested in playing but without an organized pickup scene and private servers its just impossible.

truecarnage has moved to Quake Live recently, and has pickups for all gametypes.

No one really plays TDM in NA because there is no tournaments for it at all. Quakecon almost always does CTF as a team game, and there's no LANs or tournaments for TDM in NA, hence no one playing it.

I rather see some 2v2 TDM stuff back up and running. Would be awesome if Quakecon did 2v2 TDM this year :)

Quake 3 is the only exception to that. Look at Q4, Painkiller, UT3, etc. They all died when tournaments dropped.

Quake 3 had the largest player base out of any DM game, so of course it didn't die.

UT3 never had a tournament, and the game went on long after prospects of a possible tournament were gone.

UT3 had a lot of online stuff when it was released, as well as the UT3 tournament at Nvision which Lost-Cauze won.

The online stuff didn't go away, and nvision wouldn't really qualify as a major tourney.

Well, as of yet, Q3 hasn't passed the "1 million copies sold" barrier. UT3 apparently did that on PC alone, and was also on consoles.

I think this helps to prove that people are still interested in the genre, but the games need work.

Euro has tournaments but none of them has any prizes except EMS whch sadly seems to be running a bit out of schedule, pro players failing to play on time etc :)

Basicly it's been a community effort that got euro QL TDM running in the first place, and a community (Nations Cup) effort to quadruple it the last month. We could play 8 hours of high level tdm every day if we wanted to... sadly some guys in our team arent quite as nerdy as me so we're restricted to 3 hours daily ;)

quakelive isn't made for tdm and ID isn't putting any effort in it to make it even a bit bearable for TDM...

So basicly QL TDM is already stopped before it even started.. thanks to ID's visionary view on QL

Bullshit, euro scene hasnt been as active as it is right now thanks to Nations Cup and their lovely admins :)

What we do need is more maps though, otherwise TDM is really great atm
