ESL announced QUAKE Live 1on1 Ladder (78 comments)

The

Electronic Sports League European section announced today their first QUAKE Live League.
Best thing is you can start right now playing in the

Quake Live 1on1 Ladder, the signups are already open! To participate you just need to enter your Quake Live name in your ESL profile, the new matchmaker function helps you to find an opponent easily.

It seems some surprises will follow for this test ladder, the ESL said: "The new Quake Live 1on1 Ladder is a very special ladder with lots of events. So it isn't the simple Ladder you know from other Games. Stay tuned for more information in future."

Mappool: qzdm6, qzdm13, tourney4, tourney6, tourney7
The matches will be played "Best-of-One" with a timelimit of 10 minutes.

Agree with an opponent (or agree on deleting maps) or just select "Random" as map, which then selects a map randomnly.

a ladder definitely is not the best way to prove who's best, that's what tournaments are for, but a ladder does give a basic competitive environment to play in and a loose ranking

bo1, so you don't have to switch server because of annoying spectators not leaving when asked to. Just play more matches, the spam protection is set to 3 days, so you can play eachother every 3 days. So there should be plenty of chances to play different maps against the same opponent.

We are also planing on some cups, which will be bo3, but still discussing how to make it the best way, so it won't be too annoying on public servers.

One problem would be if the friend of a player joins the server as spec and chat with him on vent or teamspeak. It would be nice to get duel servers with only 3 or 4 slots so they can be filled easily with an admin or two.

Maplist is only partly id's fault. It might be nice to see some new maps, but fact is, id can't include maps like ztn or the old osp or threewave ctf maps.
This is because of legal issues. Since id wants to earn money with ql somehow, the mapreators probably want to participate in id's earnings. Therefore a contract is necessary and including financial issues isnt an easy part. Everyone wants a part of the cake.

They can have hub. Hub is aerowalk from q1, an ID map. Better than nothing. And ID made t6 and t7 to replace those two maps they couldn't get. Correct me f I'm wrong but ztn is an id map from qw as well, or was that just a user map?
