I've played since the release of RoC, so I know the game fairly well. I think you'll need to get to a certain level before replays will aid your game that much. You'd probably be better watching replays of lower-skilled people to get a basic feel for the game, check www.replayers.com. Start playing random team games before solo. The ladder match-up system is quite good now and once you've played 10-15 games it'll match you up with players of your similar skill level.
Once you've mastered grouping and hot-keying your heros and units, you'll progress a lot quicker. Good luck with it, give me a shout if you need any more tips or a sparring partener.

thanks, i played like 2 games at bnet and got badly beaten and i dont enjoy that, i like to build up an army in my own pace and learn what units are good for different things.

i think ill keep teaming up with one computer and playing two (2v2) until i know how to get started properly and finding another gold mine quick etc.

4v4 team on Bnet is excellent. It was all I played for a while.

The quality of the commentaries varies quite a lot, ranging from simple entertainment to in depth analyses. Don't think that because the first one sucked and had no great advice the rest will as well. A great example could be downwheres audios compared to noconces. (two of the audio commentary posters)

Vanilla WC3 is fun but DoTA is sublime...

ive played quite much dota but i dont find it fun anymore, the games are too long and to be honest im not that good at it

You should try EM (easy mode), if you havent already. That is all me and my friends play nowadays because we cba playing matche for over an hour. Most games we play last between 25-50 minutes. Which is sort of OK imo. On publics there are lots of quitters anyways so games tend to end prematurely alot of the time :)

I would say NE are actually one of the harder races to start with due to their low HP units.

Lucky for you it's ok to be wrong.

As a brand new player it would probably be quite frustrating trying to control an army of dryads or archer/dott.

Yea that control group of 12 fast moving, magic immune, slow posioning * dryads sure are tough to micro :D

personally, u should start off with Orc 4v4 on bnet ladder, cos orc is v easy race to get hold off compared to ne/humn, stick to 4v4 for a while, then tyr 3v3/2v2 or even 1v1 when ure confident enough.

also dota is the most lamest game ever created, death to dota players at i30!

In general ORC is a very noobfriendly race and gives you a very easy deal to micro (grunts afterall have 700hp). It will also introduce you to one of the essences of warcraft, the harass.

In general people are too scared to play 1vs1, I know I was. But that's where I learned the most.
