why would that count? Burnie was a top player in CS and in ut2003-2004. we would expect him to place top 8 at least at these events.

burnie was a top player in cs like a 100 years ago, yes. he was a "star" (not really) waaaay before CS became a semi-professional game.. remember Frag or Die or the "Charges Only" system ? back then DkH really were a sup team (along with mTw, SoA, exquisa etc)... those were the days man o_O

The tournament is amazing, all matches are very close. The match Ztrider vs Voo was breathtaking and it's a shame that Ztrider got that bad seed to face Voo in first round. All people are enjoying the BCN stop.

It is a shame that gamers dont have IRC access, just some of them have bouncers that allow them to connect to IRC.

There have been some upsets and that shows the amazing skill of all players here. Akiles has managed to beat Daler and he is going back to his shape in 2002, worre is doing great as expected and dj beated gellesak in a three mapper which really suprised everyone.

Loser brackets are being played now, so I will inform when they finish (I hope).

No else we'd all play 1v1 using rocket arena mods. I've not played painkiller online so can't comment on that but I find purely 'skill' (at least as most people use the word meaning aim and movement and not strategy and tactics) based fps games dead boring.

Turned out to be a really good tourny til this point, so many good people and they all have yet to reach voo's level. Even watching some of the games on tsn I havn't seen anyone yet who has as much movement coordination and awareness as voo. To take voo's #1 people are gonna have to start speeding up their play and capitalizing on spawn kills more, or have real fucking good control.

What's almost funny is your arguements are a mess, in need of a point, and don't really have much to do with the original context as they loop around. are you majoring in political "science"?

Don't want to get drug into this too much, but I do want to comment that Clouds history is pretty much spot on. Having gone thru the doom2 -> q3 era myself and played against those players, it is an accurate statement of when those players peaked.

One thing to take into context is each 'era' of players builds on the knowledge of the previous era. Does this make them better players...eh who knows. I will say it is quite easier to know something is possible and practice towards it as a goal rather then trying to invent something. Is rocket jumping impressive today? no...but when netquake first arrived (most were coming from a 2D world of doom2/duke nukem) the concept of rocket jumping was totally new and very impressive when pulled off with consistency.

Give me a person with 5 hours a day to practice and smart dedicated practice partners and you will have a very competetive player. That will get you 98% of the way there, last 2 percent is the individual...and that can come down to map, mood, opponent, settings, etc.

actually the competition in q3 was higher than its today in pk. pk has a global competition with like 50 topplayers max and no local communities that could match in terms of size with q3 in 2000.

remember the 16 year old b100.death whot won the cpl europe q3 tournament in the netherlands? he was seeded like 80-128 and was pretty much unknown. u won´t see this happening in pk because the community is so small that u need to play international or go to a cpl wt event to play pk against someone else.

People say PK has a small playerbase, and it's true, but what people don't understand is that PK is almost entirely a 1v1 game. How many people in ut2k4 or q3 are playing 1v1 right now? I'd be willing to bet it isn't more than what PK gets. Hard to rack up the numbers when all you have is 1v1.
