With
ES WorldCup and
CPL as two major tournaments coming up, Painkiller is looking a bit promising after all after a disappointing start.
Some old Quake stars already made their moves to this game, such as
Xenon,
SteLam,
deatz,
Fatal1ty. A big surprise is who will be on the list of the sixteen selected players by the ESWC organization that will be announced tomorrow. The big names will of course be invited but are they the best ones ? with hardly any competitions in this game.
I did an interview with one of the best players in Painkiller at the moment, he lives in a place called Naarden and is mainly known of his performance in the Quake series, his name is
Sander “Vo0” Kaasjager.
Vo0 is a 18 year old Dutch student who finished his exams last week and won the PK competition at netgamez 2004B last weekend. He plays for the multi-gaming clan
mysod together with some other old CPMa players such as
impulse,
mess and
Xhep.
Vo0 is one of the first players that started to play PK on a competitive platform and believed in it from the beginning. He helped the makers of PK and Chainmod with developing the best possible mode for this game and won the first Online tournament ever in Painkiller.
The chance is big that he will be invited for the ES World Cup 2004 in France this Summer and he is also on the attendee list of the CPL Summer event. With just one win in a online tournament, Vo0 is already being considered as one of the best PK players and is expected to be a serious favourite for the tittle at ESWC and CPL.
The usual snippet:
Did you started to play Painkiller because you are good at it and like it or more for the money, that you can reach the top of the world with it and perhaps even earn some money ?I started playing it because it's actually new. I moved from Q3/CPMA to UT2004 and I liked it alot. But when I realised that the game was just a huge update for UT2003, which had been played for like 1.5 years, I wasn't really interested in the game anymore.
It was too late for me to get to the top. So I stopped playing it and waiting for Painkiller to come out.
Since it's fresh and new, everybody has about the same chances. Although ex-QW/CPMA players might get better at this game than players from other games, but only time will tell.
I already started playing this game before ESWC/CPL tournaments were announced, so there goes the "for the money" argument :).
