k1 please.... u ought to see some real muay thai from the likes of thailand etc.. k1 is good no doubts but its very sloppy, its just a uncontroleld version of muay thai, nothing new really, its funny an average thai boxer from thai land has at least 100 fights iirc infact i think its a lot more cant quite remember tho. but really k1 offers nothing new, if thai was shown like that (good fighters not this chan 5 shite) then really k1 would just be "ooo like sloppy thai fighters" though it is still entertainment and i enjoy it :)

alot of the fighters in K1 fight muay thai too, some are even mainly muay thai fighters.

Also, elbows to the head often end up in cuts that force the match to be stopped early.

yeah it sucks :( i been to a lot of thai fights in the UK and in almost all of them they are allowed knees, eblows etc.. to the head also, and included spinning elbows. The only thing that is rare is a spinning backfist, dont know why though from my expirience its a lot easier to pull of becuase you can do it at a distance where the elbow you cant be too far back :)

The reason they dont do spinning back fists is because its banned in the world muay thai rules. You can also only do elbows to the head in world muay thai rules so u must be watching a lot of that then.

spin backfists are dodgy, sometimes you can use them if both corners agreee, you usually get one corner that does say "fuck yeah lets have it" then the other that are like "nope dont think so" and same applys for foot to foot sweeps :) (kickboxing anyways)

of course there are some more good styles out there. muay thai is a good one too I have to admit. but when it comes to realistic self defense, wt and boxing are the styles that save your ass.

well can i just say that when it comes to realistic self defense that gracie jiu jitsiu is easily the most effective. Not all fighting is standing, 95% of real fights go to the ground. Its been proved again and again but i wouldnt say that these other styles are without merit in the slightest.

well if the fight goes to the ground, the fight is over. usually a fight starts whilst standing. and if you talk about ground fighting:
1. wt is quite a lot ground fighting
2. nothing is more dangerouns than a wrestler(ringer) when it comes to the ground
3. if a boxer punches you in the face, there is no need to learn groud technics, because the fight is over.

Yeah, fights start standing but 95% of them end up on the ground and coz people dont know what to do there its usually just ends up two guys rolling over on each other. :)
1. wt doesnt have much on the ground or nothing that could beat a ground specialist.
2. gjj players are more dangerous on the ground because although wrestlers have great takedowns, pins and postioning they dont have the submissions.
3. the whole point of gjj is to take a striker to the ground before they can hit you and once on the ground they are lost and you can choose what to do with them and by no means does one punch from a boxer mean the fight is over, some guys are just naturally hard and can take full blown punches whereas they cant take a broken limb or being choked out.

Dont get me wrong wt and boxing are great against the untrained and i believe mt is still one of the most deadly striking styles but even kevin chan who is one of britains best wt masters is a purple belt in gjj.

no, most are like that but gjj and brazillian jj is different. To my recollection it goes white, blue, purple, brown, black and then all the different degrees of black belt, this could be wrong but its something like that. They have fewer amounts of belts but they are a lot harder to get, it takes about a year to get your first belt and about 10 to get your first black (although i have heard that rickson gracie, who is considered the best bjj'er in the world, takes about 15-20 years! Hes supposedly only ever given one or two out.) Kevin Chan is actually doing incredible well to be a purple belt because only a few people in this country are that high, there are none higher than that yet unless you count the guys who come from brazil to teach here like roger gracie.

It's like with WT, it's pretty much useless in the ring unless you have some other MA in your background as far as I see it so I wouldn't stand a chance against some K1 fighter (I'm way too small too :P) Though on the other hand, outside the ring were I'm "allowed" to use the techniques I've been learning and studiying to defend myself, I wouldn't hesitate crushing his throat in 2 secs. :P

Anyone see the awsome match between mino and bob Sapp? Mino did so well to win - sapp was about 155 KG in that match I think. Another good mino fight to watch was against fedor (one of my faviourite fighters). He took so much punishment but still stayed conscience, I was mighty impressed.

I also like to watch wenderli (sp) "The Axe Murderer" silvia. The match between him and crocop was great, alot of hard kicks.

I think it will be interesting to see if Mike Tyson actually fights in the UFC.

ahh your prolly right. I dont take alot of notice of him or regular boxing in general. He might go Ok in K-1, but id like to see him do some grapple training and fight in MMC or Pride. Personally I think with 18 Months of training under his belt he could be compedative. I cant see him ever being on top but hes enough of a thug to compete at least.

the best martial arts i belive is just the shaolin monks, brilliant stuff, and any exhibition stuff, even if its kickboxing to kung fu, have anyone skilled in them and showing off doing some fancy moves its sure entertaining.

I think UFC is more like the "moronic" violence type, where K1 is the "cultivated" violence type, as boxing also.

I normally only enjoy fights where one fighter stands out with brilliant skill, else it tends to get a massacre and is not very fun to watch.

Massacre as in, very hard/bloody over many rounds. If one is just better (yet he can be the of the same rank or skill level) the fight is over fast and funnily enough is not so brutal.

UFC is Mixed Martial Arts, that means there is clinching and groundfighting involved, it's a very complete approach to who is the better fighter. K1 is all standup, boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, clinching isn't tolerated, throws are illegal, that's the reason it looks "clean".

It pretty much depends on what you like though. I prefer K1, but it's pretty hard to see any ufc or pride matched where I live.

I prefer K1 too but mainly cause i like a high KO rate and cause as a spectator i dont like groundfighting very much as it slows it down.
But its all personal preference tho.

Hell yes. Mino took so much punishment in that fight and was still with it at the end. Some of the hits fedor got in were amazing in there power too. A smililar fight to watch was the mino vs sapp fight were mino shows exactly how to fight and beat an opponent that has like 40 kgs on him.

yeah there are some huge differences in the heavy weight divisions. You have alot of guys like cro-cop around the 97Kg mark but now theres guys like sapp at 140kg (along with a heap of others). I guess the really interesting thing is a guy like mino can come along at about 97kg and show that his stamina and skill can beat the raw size of a guy like sapp.

I still think fedor is the man to beat atm, he has strength and speed on his feet and absolutly destroys on the ground. I dont think he has the technique of a guy like mino or sakuraba but he has such brutal power both on his feet and the mat that he makes it so damn hard for anyone to actually ware him out enough to apply a successful grapple/armbar/choke etc.

Yeah fedor is awesome and hes a really nice bloke from interviews ive seen with him but i do think that mino can possibly beat him in their rematch. Could go either way but i think mino could be more ready for the rematch than he was the first fight. In the first fight he got a really nice reversal into fedors half guard but made a mistake and fedor took advantage and put mino on his back again. I think mino should fight from the top against fedor coz fedor is amazing in the guard with his stupidly strong punches and great sub defence. I think though that even from the bottom mino can always pull out his patented trinagle choke.:)

That herring v giant silva fight was on the same card as the royce v yoshida 2 fight just so u know. The silva guy was 7' 5" and weighed about 400 pounds but he used to be in the wwf so he obviously had no technique, even herring was annoyed at having to fight him coz it was just a freak show. Some russian guy owned another giant guy in the last pride as well.

I dont know whats happening with fedor atm coz him and pride had a big bust up coz he broke contract and fought for inoki last month and he was stripped of his title so im not sure if hes coming back or not, i think he will though coz hes a big draw.

Btw pride bushido 2 is on tommorow, chute box v japan supposedly and crocop is fighting someone, cant remember who though.

I agree totally with the what you said about mino and how he should fight fedor. Having fedor on top is always going to put you behind the 8-ball because not only is he such a stong fighter from there but his hitting power from there is amazing. I think after his last defeat mino will be better prepared for fedor and hopefully not have to take such brutal punishment for the whole fight.
