Finally got my shit together and stopped shaking the aim, and was ahead 12-3 on this lamer, and I lost by one :( cause I got nervous again when I realized I owned him....

The final score was 14-13 to him...

I think situations like this only help the gaming community. Soon the news reporters will start running coverage on crazed gamers who scream F*** and toss computers when they lose. Will only bring attention to gaming. I applaud Makaveli.

he does deserve respect, he is a great player but that sorta conduct is unacceptable. Especially over a game! Its ok to be angry at losing, no one likes losing (well most don't) but to act like that is, well, not good.

Ok, NO WHINING? What has gaming come too? If i wasn't allowed to scream my lungs out on battlecom when I get killed in CWs (Which I'm not by my clanmates that almost kill me everytime i do :P) I would get frantic. Several friends/people I know that play CS smash keyboards, mice, monitors and what not. One dude I know slapped his monitor right of the desk once. Another guy almost get discounts on local computer store on keyboards cause he breaks so many.

It's fun and good therapy to blow of some steam. Swear, break hardware, whatever you like.

Well actually, I don't think Makaveli brought these chairs with him from USA, they were property of the WCG and it is certainly something else to break your OWN keyboard or something similiar than throwing around the organiser's chairs (which could also hit someone i guess)

you should also remember that this tournament is held in korea, asia.. and people from the far east are usually A LOT quieter than american loudmouth's might be ;)
i think it is not asked to much to demand from maka to accomodate his behavior to what his hosts are accustomed to, is it?

The people in Asia are quite sensitive to emotional outbursts. They hardly show emotions (except Jackie Chan of course).

While its a bit embarrasing. Its terribly funny, and I agree with what some people have said, its great for the sport. Maka knows hes a character. He has always said so. And a 'sport' like Quake needs characters like him. Well done to the organisers for disqualifying him, and well done to Maka for being so damn funny. Its all good ;).

I am a BIG fan of Makaveli

Just like it happened with Stoickov (played in Football Club Barcelona in the early 90s), his character is part of his playingstyle and he would never be as creative, original and genuine if he wasnt this way so just accept it and respect him as long as his acts dont go against the rules.

Being angry is not against the rules and i dont belive he threw any chair, at least not agresively (not against anyone, not against somewhere where someone could get damaged), shouting and kicking and tantrums in general are widely accepted in football and in every sport... Well aren't we all working to make this thing we play a sport?

i cant believe some of you are trying to defend his actions . I agree with Mar tho, we need more ppl like him! its funny . etc etc , but the organisers were right in throwing him out.

I find it a little strange and hypocrytical to accept or openly encourage this kind of personal conduct displayed by a "Pro" and on the other hand say, that he should be kicked out of the tournament.
Either you think it's part of the sport or not.

kick him certainly (he was out of the tourney anyway tho so..wtf) but throwing a tantrum is funny shit to watch :D I'd rather see that then someone sitting staring vacantly at a monitor.

They definitely did not encourage that sort of behavoir. He would have been warned if he shouted what he shouted, but throwing chairs... that's no pro conduct, imo.

Makaveli has never been mature enough to handle the politics behind representing anything but himself. The purpose of the trip to Korea was to represent the United States in a worldwide competition, not to go do whatever you want. What Makaveli did was probably the most ungrateful and disrespectful action that could be taken against those who have spent countless hours organizing and funding this event.

Makaveli, not only did you steal that trip from the organizers for your own selfish purposes, but you stole the trip from an honest person who would have done his best to compete and represent the United States. Hell, he's even your very own teammate -- K9-Spezzer. You probably don't even give a "f**k" about him either though, as you don't care about anybody but yourself. If you weren't there to win, you shouldn't have been there at all. If you don't give a "f**k" about your performance or the people you represent, don't get involved. You aren't doing professional gaming a favor, despite what a few ignorant posters might believe.

If I were the organizers, I would take Makaveli to court and demand a return on the money invested in him. He obviously didn't follow through on his obligations, and in the process managed to injure the image of the event. Last time I checked, that's a severe penalty for defamation.

I think a lot of people are making conclusions based on third or fourth hand observations. Unfortunately the first hand account was a little exaggerated too, which makes it worse... but I don't think much of this Chinese whispers routine. Maka earnt his place here by playing well and beating the other guys so there's no cause to complain. He played here to win, but it didn't turn out that way so he got pissed off by it. He didn't swear at anyone, didn't damage anything, and wasn't rude to any person. The fact he was angry at the result just shows that he was aiming to win. The last thing I want to watch is gamers who are unemotional. The harsh comments that he writes are more a response to the guys who constantly flame him on message boards, and nothing to do with events here.

I've known Vic as a friend for a while, but even if I didn't I'd find it hard to criticise him for anything he's done except the inflamatory comments he tends to post. The Koreans here love him - he and other people who show a lot of emotion are the reason why FPS games can get some coverage here. I think before more people start making crazy accusations they should state that they have no idea what actually happened first, just so bystanders know how to read it.

I would personally agree with you that swear words shouldn't be taboo. Language which is sexual isn't the enemy - there are worse things going on in the world which deserve being considered 'bad'. But I'm not the one that decides what society considers suitable behavious. I'd prefer to keep this site clean of the bad language simply because I'd like it to have more potential to grow.

Common dont be hypocrite, reacting agressively after an unexperted defeat is normal in every situation in life, it happens in football and happens in ping-pong too so why can a ping-pong player shout and kick his chair (he would NEVER be disqualified for that) but not a cyberathlete, just because people think computer games are played relaxed while sitting on a chair?

It happens all the time in golf, formula 1 and other high profile sports.

If you throw anything or even swear in golf you'll not only get disqualified, you will probably end up paying a huge fine.

In any sport ,showing "unprofessional" behavior would bring a game into disrepute.

I just want to say that I gave my best to beat maka. But as maka retired, my victory on him became no sense, cause everyone got default-win to him. I think that if he would have played the rest of his games, he would have won most of them. And maybe, i could qualify for the next round. I'm pretty sure that if he knew that, he would have continued to play. I spoke to him, he is a nice guy. He was just pissed.
