I'm sure that explaination works for a few people who do stuff like that but I serioiusly doubt its the case for the majority of people. I think a better explaination, especially to explain the use of "gay" insults in the gaming community, is that its become a fad insult or saying.

There are many places those insults can come from though. A lot of insults about gays have roots in misconceptions about gay people (thinking they're all child molestors, etc). Other people have had horrible experiences with a gay or multiple gays (generally one that was a child molestor) and use their personal experience as backing for their h8, which is justified imo. Finally you have those in-transition gays or in-question straight (or bi) guys but I think they're the minority.

I'm not a homophobe, and even I occasionally call people gay at times. Not that I mean anything by it, it's just our society that force these thoughts upon us. Same thing could be said for alot of things. Things like saying reality shows (or docu soaps if you like) are shows that shows how real life is. Or that we should care about some sex scandal with some celebrity.

Thirty years ago, I doubt alot of people used the term gay as the insult we do today. However, then the AIDs boom came, where it spread mainly along the gay community (that's where the term gay-plague was invented). My guess is that's where some of it started. And it just went on from there. Since our society has always outcasted different people, for one reason or another, I assume it's not so wierd.

I'm not a gay, and I never will be. If some people feel the need to engage themselves in such activities, it's their business really, I don't see why anyone would put so much thought and strength in trying to abolish these people that some homophobes do.
