It's official! Quake4ever returns with the brother Quake 2 for the Dreamhack tournament.
The mails we've gotten has almost forced us to run all of these three tournaments.

Registration

Note: The number of slots have been decided from the number of interest reports. There's still a small chance of change if the numbers of signups radically change.

great, eswc sweden was already in 2006 ruined by single elemination, gg.

By

[mash] - Reply to #6

how was it ruined?

By

fjorgyn - Reply to #8

fox had to play toxic in the semi final and ooze vs fooki

so toxic and ooze went to the eswc final instead of fox and toxic even tho fox would have beaten ooze ez.

sucks.

on the other hand it's not necessarily a bad thing imo. i'm all for diversity.

ok then instead of you working and keeping your wage to yourself, give it me for a bit of diversity.

thats how tournaments are dude.

in group play you can have a tough group and might finish higher and all that but if you're the best you will win its as easy as that.

By

fjorgyn - Reply to #54

yes, if your best you will win, but the problem is not about the best, its about the second best which might get butt fucked even if he is 100x better than the third best.

By

link - Reply to #55

and..?

By

fjorgyn - Reply to #56

so you'd rather see the 3rd best instead of the 2nd best at the eswc final? (even if there is a big skill gap between those two?)

By

link - Reply to #57

i'd rather se the best players in the final, however this is how tournaments works.

group play often fucks people up because of "the group of death", which is a commonly known thing in normal sports aswell.

i'm not defending single elim here, just saying its not the end of the world and the best player will still be the best player.

By

fjorgyn - Reply to #58

a group of death isn't as much of a problem when 2 ppl advance, so even if the best 2 are in the same group, they can still end up 1. and 2. in the tournament. But if they meet in SE before the final then the 2. best is properly fucked.

"however this is how tournaments work"

Just cause other tournaments use that stupid system doesn't mean we have to use it in Quake too, especially not when the 2. place is also important.

By

link - Reply to #59

about group play:
if you place third in group of death you can still be better than #2 or even #1 in some of the easier groups. its all up to the groups which sucks.

about #2, fair enough. good argument.

By

fjorgyn - Reply to #60

i am only talking about the 1st and 2nd best of the whole tournament, so if those two are in one group, its only the group of death for the other guys in that group.

If you place place third in that group, your not one of the two best anyway... ;)

By

link - Reply to #61

so third place doesnt matter?

By

fjorgyn - Reply to #62

well as i am mainly talking about the sweden eswc qualifier, nope, 3rd doesn't matter :P

By

becks - Reply to #48

simply because this is a qualifier, which makes it not only important who wins the whole thing but also who comes in second and third.
And in SE those two places are often decided by the side of the bracket you are on.
While in DE the third and second actually play each other for a spot at the ESWC.

Groups + SE is the BEST!1!
