Having run for 3 months, the World War is a on going series of televised show matches by MBCGame being broadcasted from

Seoul in which the top of the WarCraft 3 scene competes for glory and prizes.

In this match we see two of the world's most known professional gamers compete in what is considered one of the greatest rivalries in WarCraft 3. Moon representing Korea's and Night Elf's champion player and Grubby representing Europe's and Orc's champion player.

how popular are these shows in korea? or are they aimed more at the chinese warcraft audience which afaik is quite big?

I am no expert, but afaik the (south) Korean RTS scene is more professional than any other esports scene.
The vods from wc3 or starcraft events are crazy with teens screaming out their loungs for those players as if they were popstars (which they are over there).

Starcraft has it's own channel on TV. Really, really big there. Star players have a good income and a big fanbase. Warcraft is less big in Korea, only occasionaly on TV and less players. Nevertheless, Korea holds the most advanced e-sports scene.

Most statistics can be found pretty easily on the internet.
According to http://gametrics.com/ statistics, which are supposed to be accurate as they are used for some other research, 10% of koreas gaming time goes into Starcraft.

Ofcourse, this might seem odd, as counterstrike-like game is scoring almost 20% (http://pds2.egloos.com/pds/1/200608/22/11/b0046211_1931413.jpg)
But then again, in Europe most people are playing WoW in gaming hours, and yet there is little pro-scene there.

Back to your question;
SC: 10%
WC3: 3,3%

SC : WC3 = 3 : 1 ratio in absolute gaming hours on a national level. On a progaming level, I'd say it's even worse. My guess is 5:1 ratio.

I would like to know what Grubby has earned so far. I'm sure he has earned a shit load because I think he's been pro since around 2002/2003. And whenever there has been W3C tournament coverage on here he's always been top 3.

What I like about these tournaments and ones similar is they make a spectacle out of all the big matches, and because the tournaments drag out strategy ends up playing a much bigger role (In terms of how a FPS match under this system would be) in the winning of games/tournaments as players could really analyse the player they are going to be playing next rather than just "I'll just play my game" etc.

a friend who is really into wc3 tells me that when big players know they have a match of this scale coming up, they spend a couple of weeks analyzing each other's recent games and coming up with a strategy.
