Event: ESWC 2004
Vo0 is the winner of the first PKEuro Duel competition. Have you played against him yet? If so, what was the outcome?Yes, Vo0 and I have played a couple of times and I consider him a very skilled player. Not only the movement of Painkiller reminds of CPM. Do you think, that CPM players like elpajuo have an advantage over other players?
I don't think so. All players had to learn Painkillers movement, regardless of the game they played before. Since it is not exactly the same as in any other previous game, I don't think that certain players have much of an advantage. You have been invited as one of 16 players by the ESWC for the Painkiller tournament. Other wellknown players like Fatal1ty, Daler or Stermy are in that list aswell. How do you rate those players and what chances do you expect for yourself?
Nonetheless, players that played fast paced games in the past might have a certain advantage because they know how to play fast but I don't think that is something other players cannot adapt to.
The fact that only the 16 best applicants have been chosen to compete in the tournament guarantees that the competition will be on the highest level possible. How long and intense are your training Painkiller? Are there enough good players to train with at all?
None of the matches there will be easy but I think that I can do quite well as long as I play up to my standards.
I try to play one or two hours a day. Even though there is a hate campaign going on against Painkillers netcode, which is justified to a certain extent concerning games from 4 players and up, the game runs very smoothly in 1vs1. So in contrast to Quake 3, which I hardly ever played online in 1vs1 games, I can actually play Painkiller online and there are some good players to play with. Still LAN games are a whole different story.Talking about ESWC. What do you think about the Quake 3 national teams who participate. How strong do you think, is the german team?
Well, I don't follow the Quake 3 scene very much, so I don't know of which players all of those teams consist, but I am sure that all of them are the best currently active players in their specific countries. As for the German team, I don't really know how good they are either but they probably cannot be considered favorites. However I wish them the best of luck and hope that they'll do well.Even though not a single Painkiller demo of you has slipped, people count you to one of the favorites. Do you feel any pressure on you or is it more like a motivation?
Regardless of what the public wants me to do, I myself want to do well in Painkiller. I will only be content if I play as well as I think I can. What's the deal with the SK tag?
Of course it is very nice to be appreciated for what you have done in the past though.
I have been a member of Schroet Kommando for a couple of years now and nothing about that has changed. I will be competing in upcoming Painkiller tournaments for SK and I already have their support, which I am very thankful for.Painkiller not only features duel maps but also some nice team deathmatch maps. Have you tried Painkiller in TDM mode yet? Is there a chance to see Unmatched back in business?
Yes, I have played a couple of 2on2s on LAN and I really enjoyed playing teamgames again. Unfortunately it is virtually impossible to play Painkiller team deathmatch online at the moment since the netcode has some problems when there are more than 4 players connected to a server. I think that this along with the absence of linux server support really keeps the Painkiller community from growing faster. Every game needs a strong clan scene. What do you think about other games like UT2004 or Counter-Strike?
As soon as this is worked out I hope that we will see online leagues and LAN tournaments with team deathmatch competitons.
I would not completely eliminate the possibility of a comeback by Unmatched.
I think both of those games are interesting. I would not condemn a game without really having played it competitively. I have to admit that the amount of time I spent playing these games is very limited. I have never played a minute of UT2k4 but I did take a look at the UT2k3 demo. What match (duel) in your entire history was the hardest you can think of?
Nevertheless I would be more inclined to play UT2k4 since I like deathmatch games. I also like UT2k4's weapons. I mean two railguns, a shaft AND a minigun, what more can you ask for?
Well, I have played a couple of matches so I might not do some of them justice by saying that a single one is the hardest match I ever played.Carmac wants to know, whats the smartest or best thing, you pulled off during a match?
The one game that comes to my mind right now is my Quake 3 match versus b100.kik on Q3DM6 at the World Cyber Games. I remember that I had the worst possible start in that match but managed to keep the score at 0:0 for a couple of minutes and finally was able to score the 1:0 frag with a very difficult and risky railshot. It is very likely that I would have lost the match if I had missed that shot.
Maybe the quadrun in the Clanbase EuroCup 3 finals on CPM4 was the best thing I ever did in a game. The air rocket with which I killed the enemy battlesuit on Q3DM14 in the EuroCup 3 finals was very important too, since that rocket probably was what secured our victory.Last question - Best Quake 3 Team of all times: Unmatched or IceClimbers? :)[q]With all due respect, Unmatched. By far.
