Because you are a fairly unknown player, I would like you to tell some things about yourself!
Ok well, my name is Sean Price, I go by the name as Daler online. I'm 17, and live in austin, texas. And I play quake 3 :).
How did you come up with the nick 'Daler'?
From the indipop star Daler Mehndi (website :D).Started using it as a joke, but kinda stuck with me :D.
How did you prepare yourself for QCon?
*69's team captain (Katsu) was holding a pretty large QuakeCon practice/LAN for 2 weeks prior to QuakeCon. Muiy, kungfoo, habib, lost-cause, rigor, clown, and a couple others were there for some part if not all of the two weeks. I was there for the week before QCon playing a few games a day with each of them. Surprisingly, we prolly spent more time not playing than actually playing :D.
Heh, not at all.... I always talked about making top 3 to my clanmates... but never really thought I would. I knew how good I was when practicing for QuakeCon, I thought I did fairly well.... but didnt know I was up at the level as those of fatal1ty or makaveli.
Do you rate yourself as the best US player after your strong performance at QCon?
I brag about it sure :) but I honestly don’t think I am... giving another chance now, I'm sure makaveli or fatal1ty would own me on any map (except ospdm8 :X) But ill be practicing even more for WCG USA than QuakeCon and maybe prove I am top in USA, regardless of map. :)
Because you weren't really known by anyone before QCon, you were the underdog. Do you think this gave you a little psychological advantage over your opponents?
Definitely, I noticed the difference in styles from top players when they played against me. They made simple mistakes which I took advantage of :) Fatal1ty was much smarter in our 2nd game on ospdm8... but he failed to switch route after the 329048 time. I was scared as hell for every match (even ffa), but luckily it didnt show too much in my game... and didnt slip up as much.
How high did you rate your chances before the match versus fatal1ty on pro-dm6? Especially after he just knocked ZeRo4 down with 14 to minus 1, you had to be pretty impressed.
I actually wasn’t paying too much attention to any of the other matches (results/scores). Not that I didn’t care..... but to hear fatal1ty beat ZeRo4 14 to -1 certainly wasn’t going to help my concentration :) Before the match if I went into it the same way as makaveli, knowing if I can lock-down the map, I’ll have no problem.
In the second game versus fatal1ty on ospdm8, I bet you felt pretty hopeless after fatal1ty succeeded to run for quite some time. But suddenly you made a surprising move, which changed the game. Can you explain this situation as how you experienced it?
I didn’t know what kind of strat fatal1ty uses on ospdm8 at all... kinda took me by surprise in the first couple minutes how I was down by what 3 to -1 or so. Numerous times I would chase him in hopes of getting a frag :D I knew he could do this for 15minutes without letting me get a scratch... this being the biggest map. But I kinda slowed it down a bit, noticed his two way route (teli or mega jumppad). So I went by that, I went through the teli and rockjumped to his one and only camping spot. Knew I took him by surprise cause I nearly hit him in the back :). And took the game back in my control, and just ran him down for the win in my favor :)
What about pro-q3tourney4, did you practise this map as much as the other maps or was this the one you skipped a little? LeXeR isn't really known as a top pro-q3tourney4 player, allthough I admit he played very smart on it against you.
Pro-q3tourney4 is my worst Quake 3 map ever. :D I’m not sure whether its my strat/aim/movement or whatever..... I lose on it, even to my clanmates. I played it a couple times before QuakeCon... going into QuakeCon without pro-t4 practice is a bad thing :). I had tossed pro-t4 for every match except the one with LeXeR. Numerous people were telling me his best map is ztn.... so I had to toss it instead of pro-t4. His aim/strat on pro-t4 was too tough for me :D I spent too much time just trying to rail him instead of protecting every frag. He certainly knew how to play it well :)
Was QCon your first 'professional' tournament? If not, how come you decided to enter a tournament and somehow manage to win $10.000 ? I mean, you just got out of tha blue!

What will you do with the $10.000?
Well, I spent about $750 already on clothes/dvdplayer/dvds...... but I’ll be saving most of it for car/feature tourney travels :).
