FrankenMouse V3: Microtech MX-Explorer (13 comments)

So, i got a DREMEL as a christmas gift.

Yay :/

Anyways, so i decided to give it a go and for a long itme i wanted to combine the shell of a 3.0 MS explorer with the optics of a 518 mouse (i could care less for prediction!)

So after some thought...of about 20 seconds, i took the dremel and started cutting stuff.

2 days later this is what i have:

The mouse beauty shot:

Underneath. Real Frankenstein there!

Insides from mx 518 :

So now your saying, why the hell didnt i just get the deathadder. Well - a whats the fun in that, b - deathadders a bit wide for me :/

So what works what doesnt

Sensor tracks, left mouse buttons works, right mouse button works, scroll wheel click and scroll works (no more annoying ms scroll problems!), side buttons work.

What doesnt work:

The dpi buttons, so im stuck at 800 (im happy with that)
The application switch button, whcih doesnt work on 518 anyways..

So, there :)

CM Storm Sentinel mouse ..thoughts.. (11 comments)

Well first things first, the person who came up with that name ought to be shot, since i cant type it without copy pasting it.

And before you start a holywar about the philips laser, id like to post my thoughts on the mouse and then get to the buts :)

Anyways, i got this mouse and well here are my thoughts

What's it like? Well ergonomically its actually very good. I'll try to explain why:

Imagine combining the Explorer 3.0 right side, the MX518 left side and the G3/Krait nimbleness. Well you'd get this. Basically this is how it pans out, the right side reminds me alot of the 3.0, the support for the ring and pinky is great.

The left side - looks alot like the mx518 or G500. The back of the mouse also slides into the palm, like the G500. Now the width where you hold it with your thumb and ring and pinkie is actually a wee bit narrower than the g3. So when you move it around with your fingers, the thing feels very much like a ambidextrous mouse in front. Small and nimble (unlike the wide 3.0 and 518), while the back offers the support of ergonomic righty only mice.

Buttons are placed equally well, without annoying dpi buttons or side buttons getting in the way. The main buttons are easy to press and very responsive.

The whole mouse is rubber coated, so no glossy plastic that razer likes to do, that becomes impossible to hold when theres just a drop of sweat.

Software is actually pretty good and doesn't eek of OEMness. And lets you make a bunch of things using "if then" commands etc..

And that twin eye thing actually has a really low LOD. Which is good i guess,

BUT..

The software (drivers) weigh in at 200megs. Out of those 200 megs, 111 are taken by a video file, that isn't even used in the drivers :/

The scroll wheel feels ridiculously difficult to press. And the notches are loose aswell.

After 4 hrs of use, the right mouse button squeaks time to time.

And Philips. The thing jitters like c**k... But it tracks my goliathus actually pretty damn well.

As for the lights and OLED display - well its nice to look at, and the display is certainly better than razers flashing morse code, but its not really needed..

Conclusion?

Its a damn comfortable mouse. At least for me. The problems? Most annoying is the squeaks, but that should be solved by WD40 (Hi Razer). The jittering? Ingame doesnt bother me, since my sens is too low for me to notice that.

Well so far im a satisfied customers. Hopefully after 2 weeks my opinion stays the same :)

Your thoughts ?

FrankenMouse: The WMO project (47 comments)

So after i made the G3 with the 518 optics i decided to mod the WMO.

What i did was took the shell of the WMO and put A4TECH 738K insides in it.

Result - i got a mouse with a trustworthy optical sensor and 7 programmable buttons :)

And as i dont know how to post images here here are some links instead

Now you may have noticed the cable is going out the rear :) There are several reasons for this. 1 i had some trouble routing it through the front of the mouse. 2 - I was looking at the nova and as a test wanted to see what the cable comes out the side does.

There are also screws in front that hold the mouse together. This is due to the fact that while adjusting everything, the hooks oin the shell broke off. To fix this i will need to buy a new WMO.

The side button holes are horribly inacurate. I will propably ditch these elipse type of buttons alltogether and do some round ones instead.

Other than that - best shaped mouse with some modern tech :)
