Teleport Blinking (41 comments)
Posted by xyGvot @ 00:41 CDT, 25 September 2006 - iMsg
Since the only chance i get to sit down and play some Q3 is after getting home at night after work, i save some bills by turning off the lights while playing.
Now, normally in a game, you're concentrated and don't pay attention to a simple thing such as the teleport blink.
But what if you decide, say, practice some strafe jumping?
Sure, you load opc1 or jjm or any other trickjumping level; if you fail a jump most of these levels send you off to the start via a teleport.

Sometimes the jumping skill is kinda "off" and you tend fail plenty of jumps, and that's when the problem arises: one night i was on opc1 and miserably failing every jump after the fifth platform, the large amount of teleportation started to make me feel dizzy, now i'm not that sensitive to motion sickness and the like, but i just took notice that this could actually lead more sensitive people to experience a seizure.
Even with the lights on, this thing messes with your eyes.

It just begs the question: why the hell do teleports blink in the first place?

Compulsive Customization (10 comments)
Posted by xyGvot @ 11:38 CDT, 26 July 2005 - iMsg
Ever since Q3 landed in my hands late 2000 i've been tweaking the shit out of it, for a reason i cannot underestand, every day i come up with new tweaks, so i don't have a cfg that i can say it's definitive.

I don't know how to stop this, simply must change settings constantly, and even if i achieve a cfg that i feel confortable with, there's always room for improvement.

So now i have a .rar with cfg's for baseq3, CPMA, OSP and UFT and every time i load one up there's this little impulsive feeling of changing settings.

It's a never ending cycle, happens the same with the UT's or QW.

Does anyone else suffer from this?

How's it possible that you, yes, you, who dared to face demons from hell in an abandoned space station, went to hell and back, you, who helped a human riot against oppresive alien forces and gave hope to the last human beings, you, who killed Satan's 4 generals, you, who fought the UN and discovered their evil plots and dismantled world domination...

how's it possible that you get so much hurt from girls? =/

there must be a patch or smthing for this game...
/god is not working.

salesmen (4 comments)

this idiot at my workplace made some promises to some customers on something we haven't even done yet, and gave us a 2 week deadline.
The thing is freaking big to code, and he's been all these days checking out how we're doing, with the obvious pressure.

i started monday morning as usual, and in about 3 hours i got sick.

is it possible to get the flu from stress?
i feel like shit, and still, i came to work.
i'm just waiting the opportunity to sneeze on this guy's face.

man, i hate salesmen.

Since Duke Nukem seems to be taking FOREVER to duke it out again, i had some nostalgia and loaded up my good ol' copy of Duke 3D.

with XP having no DOS based support whatsoever, i came across with JFDuke3D, which not only allows you to play Duke on XP, but also has some nice enhancements, like OpenGL rendering and true 3D models.

oh man, getting close to a mirror and using the open key...

hearing that "DAMN!, I'm looking gooood!" almost made me cry.

Q3 engine based games-> beware! (2 comments)

just found this over the net, might be a bit old, but it's interesting nonetheless:

Luigi Auriemma from Secunia Advisories, has reported a vulnerability in Quake3 Engine, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service).

The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the handling of overly long queries and can be exploited to shutdown or crash a vulnerable service via a specially crafted UDP datagram.

you can find more information here

lame solution though...

it's been a while since something like this happened.

watch reactions over here and here or if you're not happy with that, then go here.

Nice to see Gates' reaction... kinda like: "dammit! UTSF O'Brien"

"Yup!"
