Actually, r_enablepostprocess does not need to be enabled and r_mapoverbrightcap can be also tuned to make the map darker.

i think post process is dependant on whether you disable it by console or menu

Well, I never use the configuration menu and set everything on my config (or console to test new settings), so I really don't know anything about that. :)

depending on your r_enablepostprocess r_vertexlighting r_ignorehwgamma settings and your graphics card, one person's settings might not look the same for you so it's better to just experiment yourself

it appears to me, the settings in the video only use r_picmip 10 and a lower gamma than default.

post processing does help you dial in the colors of the map to make the models really pop out from the textures. the video looks a lot like my config, except i use a 2 tone model.
