Yet in 2017 it is in average 20% slower than the R9 390 (R9 390 = R9 290 with 8gb)... In DooM the 390 is twice as fast :/ The 780 aged pretty badly...
You could have overclocked that 7950 to almost gtx780 levels of performance (yes you can overclock the GTX780 too of course).

Despite performing slightly faster than the 7950, the problem that I have with it, is that the GTX 780 driver support is non existent...

I think but 780 is better than 7950 on 20-30% . Maybe my next card for test is gtx 690 for 170$ on this week.

The 690 is a nice gpu, but it is a dual gpu card... According to my experience with multi gpu setups, when it works it is great, when it doesn't is a fucking stuttery mess. My advice would be to stay away from multi gpu cards/setups, unless you are a collector :D A big fat single gpu is always a better experience (despite possibly lower peformance), like that gtx 780 that you got. If you plan to play modern titles the 690 is limited to 2gb of vram, it has 4gb in total but the gpus need to load the same stuff on their frame buffers because of the alternate frame rendering.

I like to test FPS on various video cards, which I have never had. 690 I will try to buy cheap, in order to quickly sell after several weeks of testing. gtx690 will not be my video card for long-term use. For long-term use, I want to purchase 1060 6GB or 480 8GB when I have the financial opportunity.

You should be able to find the 1060 6gb card for less than 300 euro and the 1070 card for less than 400. Seems like the 1070 cards dropped a bit in price with the introduction of the Vega 56. You should sell your soul and go for the 1070 ;)

R9 390 is around 30% faster, not 20% + it has 8 vs 3GB of vram as you stated. Otherwise totally your comment, 780 aged badly and no driver support nowdays while 7xxx,2xx,3xx are similar arhitecture and all supported from amd.

I have a 1080ti and I played Doom 4 on ultra settings @ 1080p and this is not an overkill like many people say as I don't sacrifice any worthful FPS in the super smooth 120+ region. Still the 1080ti is approx. 20 % faster than a 1080 which is already very powerful for any AAA titles. Strive for moar frames per second and remove this fucking limit @ 200 FPS. Wolfenstein 2 did it right.

a retarded game of QC on 3's 3G network at midday while USB tethered

palit jetstream 1070m FX8300, 2133MHZ RAM, random graphic settings

EVGA precision XOX messes up stats from HINFO64 to riva tuner statistics server, so it has ram timings etc missing, and motherboard temps

just enable the benchmark in riva tuner, for the bottom row FPS counts
