i don't think it matters lol quake series is over and diabotical won't save it. just download some other 1v1 like fighting games or rts like starcraft 1/2 or warcraft 3 if you want a 1v1 game. if you want team games play counter strike, overwatch, league of legends, or dota 2. if you want to play for fun then the sky is your limit.

I haven't seen it put this way but I'll take a sincere (non-meme) stab at explaining (possibly) what the author meant:

Strategic:

1. Unforced Positioning -- Taking positions on a map which are not dictated by your opponent. Good positioning is (obviously) very dependent on the map. It should make it easier to control items as well as easier to hit enemies, while minimizing the damage they can deal to you. In an ideal case, by playing the best positions, all your shots should be easy and all your enemy's shots should be hard.
2. Winning Control -- Self explanatory. Finding ways of breaking an enemies control, or when control is disputed, playing the situation right to deny an enemy's control. As Cooller said, know when to be aggressive, and when not to be aggressive.
3. Converting Control -- Converting control into kills. This is highly dependent on the map. On some maps, having item control means you're likely to get a ton of kills. On some other maps, it is possible to have map control the entire time and struggle to get kills.
4. Opening Pathing -- Not sure what this means.... Might mean forcing your opponent into bad positions that help you get/hold item control (i.e., "path" between major items is open).

Tactical:

5. Holding Corners/Angles -- Good combat awareness, what weapons to use, where to stand when engaging opponent around a corner.
6. Engaging -- Not sure what engaging means in a tactical sense. Knowing when to engage is more strategy than tactics and requires some broader strategy (i.e., winning control, converting control). I would instead add "combat sense" to the tactical category. Having a feel for the tempo/distance of fights, weapons fire rate/spam, dodge, etc.

I would add a few more which are at a higher layer of the meta:

1. Evaluation -- Evaluating your opponent and yourself during the match. If your opponent is playing a certain way (strategically/tactically), or if you're not playing at your best, you need to recognize this and be able to adapt.
2. Adaptation -- Being able to adapt requires more than just being able to evaluate your enemy, but also the ability to play differently (more aggressive, more defensive, more reliant on one weapon than another, etc.).
3. Confidence -- Not getting tilted, maintaining composure under pressure, not letting your opponent play their game
4. Discipline -- Not letting yourself play sloppy, or mindlessly, no matter the conditions. When you play, you should always been reenforcing good habits (timing items, using the best possible weapon in a given situation, etc.), and overcome bad habits. If you play too much without discipline, you will find yourself mired in bad habits that will prevent you from advancing as a player.
