but for QC i don't get why id wasn't just using id tech 6 with an id team only. Look at q4, they worked with raven software and the game was bugged to death, they let raven develop what it is even difficult to call "multiplayer", and look now, q4 has survived for like 2-3(?) years max and on top of that, without the help of the community the game would've been even worst. The only thing that kept q4 alive wasn't the game itself but more because it was a "new" quake with quite a lot of sponsorships and the pro players would basically almost play anything as long as they get money and competition, but other than the pro scene, q4 was already dead community-wise. Seems the same for QC, not saying saber did a bad work for QC, but compare doom 2016 or doom eternal graphics to QC, pure id tech 6's smoothness to hybrid QC engine, and look at doom, unlike QC, it's a pure success both the game, the money income, the popularity etc.

Actually, QC isn't a bad game. But if i had to rate QC, i would give it a 15/20, while q3 was definitely a 19/20 and q4 a 14-13/20. And compare QC's content with QL, no comparison at all, actually. QL is better than QC on almost every level, you could say to me "yeah but QL was released in 2008, and at that time, it was basically a much worst version of q3 + mods", i wouldn't disagree, but we're in 2019, they could either have made ql 2.0 (with slightly updated engine, like prolly more polygons on the models, sharper textures etc) or just do not release QC until it has proper TDM, CTF, current timelimit duel AND WAAAYYY more maps and content.

Atm those that are playing QC are either the pros or the casuals that heard "hey, remember quake ? qc is a new quake, from 2017!!!!! come play it, it's fun as hell", but the rest of the community, that is probably the most important remaining part, prolly called the "core community", (hardcore quake fans, regular players, dedicated community, sub-top to med skilled players, and so on) has been kind of fooled, tbh. There's no real reason for "us" to keep playing QC when we know diabotical will have a different and prolly better approach to what a competitive "quake" game should be from the start, in 2019/2020.

I'm not sure if it's because it's how the "game industry" works, and QC had the pretention to be an AAA title, i'm not sure if i'm way to naive, but tbh, seems like id didn't learn mistakes from the past.

Too expensive to develop in-house based on the scope of the game. The folks at id Software likely get paid much better than the Russian team of Saber Interactive. Even if the Russian team were paid "equivalent" money, it'd still be cheaper because the US dollar buys a lot more in Russia (this is something called "purchasing power parity"). In other words, you can get more bang for your buck by out-sourcing labor overseas. Hence why a lot of goods are manufactured in East Asian that could otherwise be made in the US.

My guess is the higher ups at Zenimax allocated a certain budget for the development of Quake Champions. They designed the concept, gameplay, art, etc., in-house and then with what budget they had left, out-sourced large aspects of the rest of the game to fit their budget constraints.

they blew their budget so no vulkan.
