I tend to be a little more rail heavy than the average player. One thing that helps me is using a relatively low zoom fov of 42. Nearly every rail I shoot is zoomed in.

I also usually zoom in lg fights, but that's irrelevant.

Configs are useless, if you don't use the same "play-style" together with them(arm on table or not and such).

I am doing more of a research to see what most ppl use. It is just interesting for me.

Being good at rail is two things, you've got natural reaction time and you've got understanding player movement and engine physics. The first being natural, the other comes with experience. One thing I recently started thinking about is cg_playerlean, since it does give a visual indication of player movement intentions. For years I kept it on 0 because I felt I preferred the enemy model to stay more static, but then I checked out the configs of the top 10 duelers and they all seem to have it enabled, so recently I changed this and actually I'm liking it. Just my two cents.
