Btw. I think that prizes should be annouced after signing up. Nowadays only few people and clans cares about TDM at all. After annoucing donations and prizes before the tournament start it's obvious that some players will play and run only for the money :)

well, last season putting pacmen in div2 to rape everyone or allowing Silencep to play for div2 team was already stupid. Perfect unpredictable seeds are impossible, it's not 2000s, div2 winner is always known as soon as div is formed(unless teams start adding top players once it starts which should be forbidden tbh). It's not that I'm whining, sadly the community is too small nowadays to provide solid div2. I'd love to see competition there, but looking at the signups I'm not really feeling optimistic.

doubt that. There is a good chance to divide current teams into 2 skills divs, for example:
div1: 102, rekt, e4, dx, CZE, Last Men Standing
div2: everyone else.
Only 'bad thing' is that currently it wil be 6 to 9 teams ratio but at least matches will be more or less tense and no predictable top3
Lets hope some kind of noctan + ukn merger will happen to nEutralize teams ratio \:D/

I don't know the exact situation of every nations but I'm pretty sure Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Netherland, Ukraine, France, Sweden, Great Britain, Czech can make a team (maybe even Spain, Belgium and other smaller countries). They can have problem to make a team with really best players, but they have 4 TDM players for sure.

And Russia would rape it all. I would rather have a draft series than a cup where there would be more wildcards called than in current HOQ and half the teams forced to play with players who have never played TDM.

I think Denmark could turn up with a team with an announcement of such a cup.

Well the thing is a NC always represented the best players of each nation in the past. Those nations you mentioned lack those players nowadays besides Russia who would play with 102's lineup and the winner would be known before the cup starts.

Agree, no div 3 is what's preventing me to sign up. People are just too good in div 2 for my clan. Yet all of us have played 500+ hours of quake, even tho TDM havnt been our priority. It's just not fun getting rekt 150-50 vs most div 2 teams.

Well... following your way of thinking we should put last pick in div1 aswell, because they even won some maps against E4 in the previous scrims:

And that's the real problem. Because dividing the current teams between only two division will be not only totally unfair and hurtful for most of them but also it will be really predictable who will win.
We (dioxide) had totally equal matches against div2 clans like b52 or pimps. We also had some close maps against E4. But in the other hand, we were mercied by Rekt. Does that mean that we belong to div1? I doubt it. Same goes for other teams. I dont think that some less experienced clans like Dretwe Lamy or Ashlen stands against clans like B52 or Last Pick in the div2. That's why we need 3 divisions - and we already have enough clans for do so.

Most of you surely remember Clan Base. Of course back then there were more clans to pick from but back then it was organized better. There were premier division, and then div1, div2 etc.
If we would put the current teams into their real divisions it would look something like that:

Premier Division: Rekt, CZ, LMS, DM
Div1: E4, Last pick, Dx, Plan B
Div2: Scythe, Pimps, Nerds, B52
Div3: H8, DL, Zombei, Ashlen

If the amount of clans per division is too small, think maybe about DO or BO5 maches. That will be more fair than separating these teams between only two divisions, or by putting clans like DL or h8 in the same basket as Last Pick and B52 or Dx with Rekt and DM.

It is no fun for lower end div 2 getting raped by high end div2.
It is also no fun for high end div2 teams being raped by high and low end div1 teams.. Hence dividing fairly and equally the teams into adapted divisions.

One guy here, namely Ennea, stated that he was discouraged in div2 because his team is not of div2 level.

I also recall v0 last season being mercied consecutively by all div2 clans.

As a result, none of these clans want to attend to this new and exciting season of hoq.

I play for the fun of it. I don't care about prizes. I have a well paying job with responsibilities and earning a free mouse is nonwhere near a motivational purpose for participating.
Heck, remove all div2 prizes and put them in div1. I'll still donate and request the fun of div2 over the prizes ;-)

I play because I've loved this game since quakeworld.

I also have a baby and wife and I play very little now. So the little time I spend playing quake should be a moment of pleasure for me consisting of fun and laughs with my mates. Playing in a division where I am sure to get wrecked by "nearly" all clans has the exact same effect on me as it did for guys like v0 last season.

If you want the game to keep going you need to create an even and fair league for every team, regardless of their skill level. That, at the moment, is not the case.

Hope you get me here.. I'm not judging nor criticising.. I am just trying to keep it going and trust me, dozer and others know, I am more implicated in keeping this loved game going than many can imagine ;-)

The thing about challenge and fun is that it has to involve healthy amount of uncertainty about the future. If I know that I'm going to get raped or if I know that I am going to rape, I will lose motivation. There is no uncertainty in those outcomes and it wont be fun.

The points that DX brings up are valid. They are not advocating for them to be able to rape DIV2 because they proposed 2 different division systems, where they actually moved the teams they would rape into lower divisions. They are advocating for everyone to have a fun experience.

I'm currently thinking that maybe it would be/have been better idea to promote 4 divisions and then if they don't fill up, merge the ones with too few teams or move teams around. This would give clear indication to more teams that they would have a more matching division leading to a more fun experience.

And ye, i get their concerns, all valid. Its just, in my book, if ppl won previous seasons div2 they would be eager to play div1, rather than ask to be placed again in same div, on the same skill level.
Thats just doesnt register as evolving or progression to me. I mean, how a team/player supposed to become better if it/he is not being challenged by much better teams/players.. There goes my motivation tbh.. They can help teams reach their level in div2, i guess, but with this rate they will never be div1 material.

That's pretty much the key. To make a leap from lower division to a competitor in a higher one you need to put in the hours against those higher teams. Currently people are busy with other stuff in life and on top of that it's really hard to find higher DIV teams to pracc with. So their only pracc against DIV1 would be to get raped for 4 offcial games, and then next "pracc" will be in next HoQ. That's not enough.

Believe it or not, but personally I don't care that much about the prizes and statement about 'wrecking other clans' is just wrong. I've registred Dx far before the prizes were even revealed and I asked doz3r about playing in div2 long before there were so many clans in the singup list. I like being challenged, that's why I'm playing this game for so long, but I care more about fairness. By putting so many clans in the same basked with other, far stronger clans is a bad thing, not only for the HoQ league itselft, but for TDM overall. Becasue of that it will end with plenty of w/o and no shows, as it was several times before in the previous HoQ seasons.

Spoke to dozer about it just now.

Fyi pacmen won against lp 2-1 in div2 finals in an overtime by 2 frags (and that was with our best player Pseu who won't be participating in this season).

So by all means we were not over the level abusively by being in div2.

I bet you are smart enough to figure out a work-around. Maybe just make 2 seperate leagues, one called STAGE1, other called STAGE2 ?

It's not about being smart the HoQ backend system doesn't feature that - it would need a complete recoding which wont happen in the near future....

I think his proposal is intriguing. Getting to play the teams twice gives different dynamics and would be neat with smaller divisions. Ideally the second half of the season could be arranged so that the top2 of the first half would meet last in the second half which potentially gives a "finals" effect.

Think you need a decent esr post for those who are in Ennia's case to see. Doubt they will see a little reply on here ..

It is a very hard task for organisers I must admit. Respect to xou and dozer.

But a good organisation is required to satisfy everyone and make it enjoyable for all levels. That is why clanbase was successfull at the time. It aimed at making sure all teams were in a division containing clans of their skill range.

Hope we reach 18 clans here. It will favour all the lower end div2 and potential div3 players.

Nah. The prizes are meant as an incentive to finish the season. That's why 3 divs + some prizes for all would be the ideal case.

Fair games, close games (hopefully) and the incentive to keep going after a loss (to reach place 3 etc.). Dumping all the stuff in div 1 would defeat that purpose. Noones getting rich winning this stuff anyway :)
