Everyone has a chance of making a frag in CA.
You don't need to commit with all of your energy while playing CA.
It's a good mix of focusing and relaxing due to the round based system with warmup time.

Cuz Ca is meant to rush each other down but people like t1hol are the [nicest and most skilled players I've ever seen] cuz they full hp camp at beginn of round and then they go for full hp bw rail when they are in 1vs1 Situations laming as shit and other people inside same server dont kick him cuz 99% of all clan arena players play like that. And I hope one day they [reach happiness] in real life for laming in clan arena. Some players learn to +frwd with time but some should get [a promotion at work for being a hard working individual] (like t1hol cuz he is [an honest man that I deeply admire]), but before that happens they get [nothing but respect from me] to feel the whole [love] and not fall asleep cuz shock.

I remember when i started playing quake I liked ca because i could rocketjump like a retard around the map without taking any dmg lol that was the only reason. Most of the noobs players play ca because of this.

This is the only real reason, all the other arguments here are bullshit.

this is exactly what bothers me the most about CA.
some people cant even hit a guy who is afk but rocketjump around the map as if that would make any sense.
it seems as if some guys never even played a game mode with selfdmg because they neither can strafejump nor position themselfs in a good way.
they stand where they stand and if the situation efforts it they simply rocketjump away.

unfortunately since i play QL i am kind of in the habit of doing the same shit due to playing CA only.
i still enjoy CA, but it makes you a worse player in general.

But that's probably the best mode to learn to rocket jump.

to learn the motion, yes.
to build up that muscle memory as well (even if i dont think that people in CA try to master rockerjump elevation/height which is very important when you dont want to hang up in the air all day).
but you definitely do not learn in which situiations it is best to do or when it is really necessary.
i bet that most CA players playing a normal game mode would blow themselfes up a hundred times before they get enlightened.

Why should I learn boring positioning or aiming if I can just have fun rocketjumping? This is what bothers me in many "hardcore" players - they don't understand people and have ridiculous views about what should be considered "proper" playing.

Personally I never liked either. I stayed away from 1v1 in q3 too because i hated waiting. that was a mistake though because I play 1v1 now and I suck.

I play PQL/turbo CA because there aren't any TDM servers (and players) online :)
I'm fine with CA tbh.. altho i would probably prefer to play TDM..

After all i used to play Q3 CPM TDM 10 years ago (jolt).. but that was back when the scene was actually still active :/

PQL CA is a bit different imo. Rocket jumping and keeping your speed around corners with air strafing is really an amazing feeling. It beats racing because it offers combat and allows the player to be creative in how they play the map (where as in race you follow a strict route)

Im very tempted to play some quakeworld again but the configs is just to much (ezquake etc).
I like to have full control and know every cmd like i do in live/osp/blabla. So much shit i guess i dont need like the wall of text for hud etc. And the weapbinds , kinda want sg/ssg on same button ,same for nails and then rl+shaft should fire and select the weaps.

Easy gratification. Locking LG suspensions, hitting more than one enemy with a rail or clutching a round. Gotta take the good with the bad though. There are unspeakable amounts of stupid shit going on in every match.

Part of it is the ambiguity over personal responsibility.

Players can always blame their teammates if their team doesn't win, or even if they're doing poorly really, since having bad teammates can reduce your performance.

There is some truth to that I think.

CA is basically a game of attrition. You get full stack but so does everyone else, and it's not coming back until the next round. Play your cards wrong and you're dead.


AVERAGE CA IDIOT IDEOLOGY:

1) I have full stack, let's rush enemy because I won't die with all of this armor/HP...what? I'm dead already?
2) I will hide somewhere apart from my team and wait until theyre all dead and enemies are weakened so I can go in and finish them, getting points.
3) I must find the player in team that I can pin all my faults on. If I can't find such player, I will blame entire team.
4) I blame my team for not being a team even though I don't do teamwork 99% of the time myself.
5) I will hug one gun and never change it, be it LG, SG, RG, RL, etc. Combos? never heard of them.
6) I do my best to put my teammates in dangerous situations or block their movement. If they die, it's their fault!
7) I chase enemies midnlessly to get Revenge (TM) and a Point (TM) oblivious to what's happening around me.
8) I always chatfrag and stalk then kill possible AFKers to get precious points. Netiquette? What's that?
9) I spam everything. If I see a corridor, archway or tunnel I will not pass along without spamming it. Spamming is my religion and my salvation.
10) When we win, It's obviously because of my skill. If we lose, it's obviously because of my noob team.

Basically in every team-based game-type you will see exactly the same if you will play with the average moron, don't play with the average moron. To have good matches in public CA, you need to catch a server with a couple of reasonable, decent players and apply a lot of "/callvote kick" on everyone else who don't have some goddamn elo points, in CA +2k is the minimum threshold for any brains to be had.

I like CA cuz I can relax and go for circus shots and do funny shit without it mattering much. Duel is really stressful and I never feel like I can style out or do risky things because if it goes wrong you pay for it big time.

Maybe because sometimes 6 or even more folks are watching your moves if you're last man standing, and you can show off trick jumps, plasmaclimb, draw tits on walls 'n stuff, and thus get reactions like 'haha' and 'cool' and 'wtf how do you do that'.
(And: 'ffs shoot him already, *sshole!').
Or maybe it's the kick you get, if you have a really cool frag when people are speccing you.
Dunno really, but I like to play CA once in a while.

I would enjoy some CTF/TDM Pql servs but unfortunately there is none and when I try to host some no one is joining.

As someone mentioned you can also spam rocket jumps with air control which makes moving around the map really fun aswell.

when PQL was near death, it always survived in the form of CA, why? Because its the easiest game mode to practice most skill sets in Quake without having to be at a specific point in a game, like a game of CTF / Duel or whatever requires you to get stacked and weapons and make a strategic push, CA requires you to wait for them to say 3 2 1 fight. And there you go, 10 rounds of practicing whatever you want to focus on.

two major reasons

it's the most fair form of quake
you almost never hear people whining about bad luck
compare that to tdm or 1v1 - casuals whine nonstop in those modes

personal goals are as important, if not more than winning:
a noobs goal might be to have more kills than deaths or not be at the bottom of damage totals
a top player's goal might be to get 200 dmg, 70% rail, 60% lg, etc.
If your team loses, you can still feel very satisfied if you fulfilled your personal goal.
losing in tdm and 1v1 always stings more

Coz QL's FFA is ugly shit. QL isn't ideal at all, people found their fun in Clan Arena.

I play CA beacause what I really enjoy in Quake is shooting people, with all guns whenever I want and mixing them too. Other modes have the boring/unnecessary part of having to strategize/get lucky to acquire the weapons.

I love LG, nothing more satisfying than hearing the hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng of a LG lock, hmmmm! In CA you just hop in and you're ready for this.

And rocket jumping, that's awesome too, you feel so free and there's so much room to creativity without such compromise!

there is no voicechat
teams are not fair
people randomly leave and join in the middle of games

note: all 3 are basic features that id has failed to incorporate into a team-based, match-based arena shooter

also people are more likely to switch teams in the middle of CA games because it's more about individual rounds and less about the match as a whole

Yeah, ctf and tdm aren't fun pub modes with no voice chat. I always thought the old domination was better than CA for pubbing though becase it adds some simple objectives and doesn't have items.

I don't get that people play CA instead of FFA when they want to dick around, especially with the new FFA changes. FFA is not round- or team-based (good things) and since the update you spawn with whatever weapon you want to fight with, don't need to time anything and don't even have to manage ammo. The only real problem with FFA is that there's only one tier where all players get thrown in and the level of even the best players (at least those you encounter regularly in pubs) isn't that high (based on the fact that I sometimes win).

At this point it's probably more because it has become a habit. Also there are groups of people that like to play with eachother so they would need to all change gametype which is less likely to happen to an individual.

In 2008 QL closed beta until some time in 2009, there was self damage and fall damage on in CA, ppl still rocket jumped all over the place.

Most players have jobs and are tired when they get home, so they play the game mode that lets them just jump around with all weapons shooting stuff without the need to time items and find weapons and with the occasional pause between rounds to sip beer and smoke... It's convenience quake.

same shit with loadouts in FFA/TDM.

all the tryhards came out of the woodwork and badmouthed the game on reddit and shit, possibly turning off people that would otherwise be happier with a more casual friendly game.

all the major competitive games made concessions to be more accessible. it's the reality of our days.

hell, even Quake3 was more casual friendly compared to QuakeWorld and Quake2.

I don't think it's so much the changes themselves as it is the implementation that bothers people.
