I agree, before all these updates, load-outs and whatever, I used shotgun quite often as a primary weapon. It's ideal to finish off weak opponents, which is very essential for the game-type.The lack of self damaging splash conserves a lot of your health, what allows you to be very aggressive around corners and in general, survive longer. In certain maps it's pretty much the ideal weapon and as a secondary, dominant.

sg is op as fuck, i remember using it in CA for a whole match. top damage, pure ownage.

it is not about shotgun, it is about QL weapons not being designed for loadouts

It's not about loadouts, it's about learning new players about weapons, solving crowded servers VS too few weapon spawn points and solving problem of spawn raping.

It's not 1999 anymore - newbies have whole Steam full of games to choose from - if you make game hard as fuck they just play 1 match and quit forever.

yeah, but just looking/playing at the current settings, adjustments need to be made with primaries/secondaries. this is how it is, we cant make default QL FFA not have loadouts any more.

You dont have to play QL FFA at all, just wait for near Warxon alpha release and you're gonna be able to play best Quake ever! =)

exactly. q3 weapons were not designed in a linear fashion of power, each one is great at a specific situation. having tier 1 and then tier 2 weapons is an misunderstanding of why they work and are balanced.

Then add a change that makes it worse.
Then try to fix the first change with more changes, making it worse still.
Keep adding changes to try to fix previous changes.

I've watched your previous videos and agree with most of what you are saying. But here you went off the rails imo. This is Quake remember. What game exactly are you trying to turn it into?

This is new quake with loadouts. A rebranded nail gun and another weaker secondary for moving the shotty to primary. I dont think thats overkill considering loadouts makes this already a different experience. As for adding more weapons to classic I disagree. Classic quake is great. All my suggestions in the vodeo are for the new settings

Sure the shotgun is very useful. But I don't see the need to move it to primary, if you want to use it a lot you can already do that, just like you did in the video.

You talk about buffing the machinegun. But they already introduced the Heave Machine Gun.
The game already has too many weapons as it is. So no more weapons please.

I know you mean well and please don't take my comments personal. Sorry if I sound overbearing, I just strongly disagree about a fundamental change they introduced to the game.

I guess it boils down to this: you want to make the game work with loadouts. I don't.
Loadouts don't belong in Quake. Period.
Loadouts ruin every game mode they're introduced to.
You can't fix the loadouts simply because they don't belong in the game.
The only way to make the loadaouts work is to make so many changes that you end up with a new game.

In general I don't like to criticize things if I don't have a better alternative. And I don't have a better alternative in this case. Except to say: remove loadouts.
Which leaves us with nothing more to say to each other about this I guess. ;)

Why do I bother commenting on this: I fear the developers are going to go down that slippery slope of adding change upon change trying to fix the fix to the fix of the fix for something which was not broken in the first place.

That the shotty is a clear winner in terms of secondary weapons and every ffa with the new settings ive played in had more people using shotgun than rg and hmg. Whats wrong with wanting a shotty as the primary instead of secondary
