It would be indeed strange for an online hero ctf-er to attend a TDM LAN.

All I can say is that any and all support is needed. I cannot stress this enough.

I can also tell you in advance that next editions will definitely be CTF, if this edition can prove that Quake Live is viable on our event. We intend to do TDM+Duel and CTF+Duel alternating. We organise The Storm twice per year, this means CTF in spring and TDM in fall.

However teammode prizes at this moment will need to be community raised, I'm busting my balls here, I've been working on this for months to get where we are now. All I need is the support of at least the local players and the community in general.

This event obviously needs all the support it can get to last and the first 2 comments after the gametype was announced are 2 Benelux based players basically saying "fuck TDM, we're not going", both of which got their Quakecon expenses paid for by the community nonetheless.

Let me give you some insight, I've been talking with Inferno about this lan and have assured him if it would be CTF our signup is already confirmed.

Due to the problem with prague the decision was made to turn it into a TDM for this edition of Storm.

Dem0n's expenses were paid for duel, a different mode. The rest of us expenses weren't paid, a small part of them were. That's not a valid reason to force someone to play a mode they don't like and don't play is it?

TDM isn't worth getting two days off from work, especially if there's a CTF TheStorm in March because days off are limited as you might know. So before flaming people for making an actual useful comment for the organisers, get a clue.

TDM is when you have a block of marble and a chisel, and you sculpt your game, however you want, with any possible skill, with no possible limit. CTF is when you get 3 pieces of a toy in kinder surprise and picture showing how to connect them together.

I am glad of the gametype choice.

edit: someone has brought it to my attention that the laptops will probably not be able to run 120hz monitors at 1920*1080 resolution. I'm looking for a solution, but there might not be any. We are going to test regardless.

how many teams can take part in the tournament?

8 teams, more would be harder to work out a schedule for on the provided 8 machines.

I have updated accomodation information in the OP and specified the QL seats that are currently feasible with 8 laptops (8 teams w/ 4 players) in Basic info.

You can register on our website and order a ticket. You don't have to pay immediately but this will put you on the attendees list for others to see. If later you decide to not attend we can easily remove you from this list.

Seems like a circular issue. They are not signing up because no one else has signed up yet.

To remedy that, encourage at least one or two teams to do so and guarantee there will be more than 8 PCs available. Even with only 4 teams you can host a good lan

As I mentioned in the OP, teams can sign up for free and see how it pans out. We won't charge a fee for cancellation. Even if you did pay, we give 100% refunds to anyone who wants it.

The only way to arrange more than 8 is if local players can help out with this.

Let's try something new here:
If you are more likely to show up when it's CTF (4v4), sign up with a team on the website and PM me the usernames, I will add the clanname to users and suffix (CTF) so we can get a clear overview.

Can't stress this enough, signing up doesn't mean you need to pay immediately. You can sit it out and we can remove you if you wish, no strings attached.

Gonna look into getting a team together, see if we can get some CTF happen.

The Storm 15 at the end of March will be there. I'll put up a post with plenty of time to spare if I can still persuade sponsors after this fiasco.

We have released our hall layout
People are signing up last minute as predicted
and we're announcing more sponsored prizes every day

There's still Quake Live duel for anyone signed up for the BYOC, with a hardware prizepool (no cash) of 220€, but as you know, not quite a community tournament anymore.

Yes, I always said Quake Live would be hosted no matter what. We just couldn't get enough people interested in a community event with team modes. Getting the necessary hardware at the venue was also a serious problem.

ah, it's just confusing because the title is still "Storm 14 LAN Event - Cancelled". Nice work on organizing, sorry it didn't work out more ideally!
