Try getting in touch with the organization and see if you can stream the matches which won't be streamed on fatal1ty's channel.

What I'm getting at is that it's moronic to complain that some guys aren't giving enough of their time and money especially when you're not willing to help yourself (well at least you would cast if you had the setup... now go get that setup :p! ).

I'm right in the middle of a huge Quake sabbatical, had no idea this was coming. Gonna try my best though and come back to play in this because TDM is my favorite and its never around anymore, gotta get in on it while its there! Never know when it will disappear for good here.

Its a real kick in the nuts to the TDMers out there that werent invited. I fully agree with motos rage. I'm just thankful davis kept his name in the limelight with duel or I probably wouldn't be in this either! Totally wrong approach (lol esports) but its quake/tdm so I won't complain ;)

I just heard that this idea was a "maybe" and now an announcement. If this whole thing is an invite, please state so in the title and then continue to state so throughout so I know. It seems like its the same 10-12 ctf players playing the tdm and duel. seems pretty dull from a viewer stand point (altho that duel bracket looks nice). the ctf one is just l0lz

Steams have usually just been for the Grand Finals due to players playing randomly on their own, but last year we did stream a few semi-finals before grand finals, just depends if time permits, since there are 3 modes and lots of games.

Yes, this was invite only due to lack of time, Quakecon being moved up so far, Fatal1ty & myself being busy, travel, school, etc. I enjoyed doing open registration the last 2 years with more players, but lack of time was the main issue, not to mention the constant delay of games and other issues from players who were not serious about competing, it wasn't fair to the others trying to win some $ to actually go to QuakeCon.

The 2v2 TDM was a last second add, I was about to release the tourney before Madrigal contacted me and convinced me to add TDM. The tourney has always been to mimic QuakeCon, so we were only doing CTF & Duel. Everyone I asked said TDM has been dead in NA for years, so I had a hard time even finding 8 teams of 2 players. Yes, I agree, I'm glad to just see any tdm at all, 2v2 has been a fan favorite.

However, people always drop out due to travel, personal reasons, etc... so there may be 1 slot opening for a new 2v2 TDM team very soon, I will keep a look out for duel as well.

The pre-quakecon tourney has always been to showcase the best teams in NA who are going to compete at QuakeCon and see them together one final time, as well as give them some $ to help. Obviously you can't please everyone but hopefully they still enjoy the competition and a large $ prize event to help keep it the game going.

No one cares about 2v2 TDM. Give more money to the duel/ctf tourney and none to the TDM since I don't think you can even find any legitimate teams.

Oh, and invite Zorak and Necro. Both are far more worthy than other selections. And they are serious about competing and actually going and might even cause an upset or two.

As you can see, the money for 2v2 was added on top of the usual $500, so no issue there?

And if this were europe maybe it would make more sense. But I always thought the intent was to help players get to Quakecon. There isn't even a TDM tourney at Qcon. And 100 bucks for the winner of the duel tourney isn't going to help much.

2v2 in Europe is truly dead. A real pity since I used to be really active in 2v2 and enjoy the "duel with a mate".

But that's what duelers can play without much practice (also check the map pool, clearly for duelers and not 2v2ish), and also something the NA TDM scene sometimes plays when they can't get actual TDM going.


PS. I run the bot for #NATDM.QL and idle there and I can tell you true TDM there has around 20 players ;)

In these tournaments they are giving away $700, organization (that's quite taxing) and everything needed, for free...and people complain regardless.

Also, if it wasn't invite only, how many more players would have realistically played ? Is the answer more than twice, or is it just two more players that will lose in quarters, at best? From looking at the brackets it's quite clear that the best 3 players and teams were selected already, so the money is theirs no matter who signs up from NA, and it's common knowledge that NA doesn't have many more competitive players anyway. An invite-only cup just works in those cases, making it way easier to organize, for example not having to deal with randoms not showing up.

The only thing that should be changed is the date. Just so the 'muricans have a better perspective on this, the world cup finals are 10 times bigger than the superbowl.
