Also other streamers have subscriptions ($5 a month. $2.5 are for the broadcaster) and donations (unlimited amount) going on on stream at the same time. Zoot isn't a "sell out" (as if that was something wrong) by any means when compared to others.

And it'd be silly to think they or anyone else can stay only streaming quake and not to take opportunities to get more viewers by streaming other much more popular games. Quake numbers are not worth the effort and faceit gets literally more than 10 times their quake viewership with cs:go, plus they sell skins too, with tens of thousands of dollars in revenue in the latter alone. Why not take that chance and why are you criticizing people for trying to not be a poor pole.

no offence but the shirts and jumper are a bit meh.

Nothing really to do with zLive, i don't know what your revolving your clothing around but, if its for your own little business or quake, it needs to have more about it

EG: Z - the big red Z could be on there.

Or actually you could sell some actual quake live shirts/jumpers which could help promote quake and your own business.

Also, if syncerror likes this idea (no reason why he will not) he could help out and this could expand the quake live population.

As the shirts get sold, more money will be coming in, wether you put some INTO quake for advertisement OR to carry on giving 10% to cups, its up to you :D

We were given quakecon logos for ESR in order not to breach any copyrights, plastering it on shirts is a whole other thing which usually ends with beth/zenimax sending a letter of cease and desist

it can only last so long. sponsors won't touch quake because of the numbers, the ones that do offer very little. donation money gets them what they need now, but it's only going to drop in the future and slowly disappear. you can't keep something a game alive on donations only

And by the looks of it the money is either going towards costs or going back into the community in the way of tournaments etc.

IMO, you really should open up for donations instead of selling these tacky t-shirts. At least that way ~100% of the money would support the stream/pricepools/streamers/WE. By buying the shirt a large percentage obv goes to production costs, ie. less money goes towards supporting the stream.

Based on the t-shirts my guess is that 100% of sales are due to people wanting to support the stream. The shirts themselves probably will end up in a drawer or a wastebin anyway.

besides the fact that we can't and really don't want to take donations 'advising' someone to take them instead of at least trying to do legitimate business and doing some little good in the process is borderline crazy. don't exactly know what's tacky about the shirts, but if you don't like them, don't buy them. but don't tell us that just asking people for money is somehow better, because it's not and it's not gonna happen as long as we can help otherwise. we want to offer something substantial in exchange for the cash (be it tournaments for paid subscribers or merchandise or whatever we think of) and will continue to do so.

Discussing the appearance of the t-shirts with the one who designed them is obv a waste of time. My point is, I would love to contribute towards the stream. But not through t-shirts/hoodies I would never use, as alot of the contribution wouldn't reach the stream. I would think alot of people would agree.

a) there is point in discussing shirts' appearance with me cause we want to sell as many as possible and will be possibly revising the designs for the next batch of merch if it comes to it. there is no point in shitting in my face, but reasonable suggestions are welcome and appreciated
b)everything costs money, even the subscription isn't going directly to the stream. donations do that yeah, but taking them is no way to do business. you have all the right to not like the merch and not to buy it, but applying the 'this doesn't support the company 100% directly therefore i won't buy it and won't support them at all, they should take donations instead' logic is misguided. and the donations are a closed topic. they have their place in the community, but that's not the way we'd like to do things.

Of course I am biased, but I do really like the t-shirts and hoodies as a product. In fact if someone in my family or a friend gave it to me as a birthday present, I'd be more than happy to wear it where ever - because it is my kinda style (in a casual sense). I can certainly sympathise with others who find it distasteful, but hopefully we're pleasing more people than annoying.

As a company, we can't take money for free. As in, we must offer something in return that of course is going to cost the company. If people choose to help us now by purchasing these items, then it is one step closer to us getting more capital to make more profitable decisions. That's not to mean we want to grab more money from those who support us, but it means that we can increase our profit margins through purchasing in larger bulk. Of course, it helps us more if we have a large customer base - which we are only just starting to establish for ourselves (certainly not large at the moment).

If you've got any suggestions on things that we could offer that you feel may be more attractive for those with your taste, then please feel free to send in suggestions on our contact form on the website.

I do personally think that suggesting people are going to just throw the t-shirts and hoodies in a drawer or waste bin is quite an insult. As I certainly hold value in this product whilst trying to disconnect myself from the 'professional relationship' I have with the clothes.

At the moment people can support us by buying these items, subscribing to our channel and turning off ad-block during streams (not that we show many ads anyway). This is the basis of our monetisation through our viewers. It is a different matter when it comes to people hiring us to cover an event.

I realize the criticism of the product itself wasn't very constructive. People obviously have different taste. It wasn't my intention to offend anyone.

My only point was that as the quakelive community is pretty small, the potential for these kinds of t-shirts is even smaller. And I would think a large percentage of the purchases are done to support the stream, meaning you lose money compared to receiving donation-like contributions(I guess it wouldn't be to hard buy-passing the no money for free rule.). That said, I think it's great that you are exploring different opportunities for the brand. I just think the t-shirts are a sidetrack. I wish you and Ins all the best and hope to be tuning in to your streams a long time from now.

Simple fact is.. we won't take free money. It isn't something that is easy to account for. As I am still doing this in connection with my university, it isn't something they would be terribly happy with me doing either.
