If you can use a mouse with different shape and weight, there is better mouse for sure. But there is almost impossible to find a mouse with similiar shape and weight and better sensor.

g100s got different shape, but for me it has the closest feeling to the WMO, maybe because of its weight. And yeah imo its better.

while the wmo is the ideal balance between size and weight it's the feeling of the sensor that makes me reluctant to buy a new mouse. having said that I have never used the avago 3090 and from browsing the hw forum it seems there are newer sensors than the 3090. I like the look of the kana v2 but some comments put me off and I'm as devastated as anyone else that bst has vanished. this is my 3rd wmo now. after upgrading to a 1080p screen it just doesn't feel as sharp anymore.

Kana v2 sensor is fine. But, who cares when it's not comfortable?
Height it's a bit lower than WMO. And the weight is a problem, it's about 10g more than WMO... and its bad.

Also you need a tape trick to fix LOD, which is god damn high.

Make sure to overclock it to 1000hz polling rate. You will get negative acceleration using 30cm/360 at 500hz. At 1000hz it should be fine.

wmo got max speed about 1,6 m/s and its quite easy to reach it.

500hz and 1000hz are both stable on wmo and ime 3.0. If you have an ancient single core processor than maybe 500hz might be more stable than 1000hz but that is because of the processor not the mouse.

imo there is no big difference between 500 and 1000 Hz... it's only 1 ms...

The g100s sensor is much newer so you shouldn't compare the two I believe wmo uses an 8 bit data path and the g100s uses 16 bit data path. Anyway the wmo has no issues at 1000hz and it raises the perfect control speed higher than 500hz. I get negative acceleration at 500hz but not at 1000hz. Although 500hz is almost enough not to have any issues with negative accel. If you look at any test for perfect control speed you will see 1000hz always has the highest perfect control speed.

Used 6 or 7 WMO's since 2001 but changed to G9X when that came out. It's pretty good but I just couldn't get the mouse feel of the WMO with it. Bought a Zowie FK out of curiousity but I didn't like it at all since it's way to responsive even with m_filter >1...

my da2013 400 dpi 500 hz has 99% precision and 6.7% smoothnes on enotus so its pretty SLICK

Facts? There aren't many mice which perform better in regards of smoothness. Along with the weight and shape it is a solid mouse. Yeah the plastic is cheap, the wheel is shit and you could easily strangle someone with the shitty cable. But the sensor is top notch. Ah and I forgot about the lift of distance. Perfect.
Currently I'm playing with a zowie fk and compared to a wmo it is just shit. Buttons to hard, lod just LOL and the sensor just feels weird :/. Considering it costs 65$ i'd rather have a outdated wmo again.

I don't know. There are some good players who enjoy the prediction and acceleration of the kinzu v1 and even tried to recreate the acceleration curve via drivers. Probably brain malfunction how could you possible enjoy such a crappy mouse!

For example jitterfree abyssus had a perfect sensor in theory. No prediction, no neg/pos accel. Lod was not the best but managable. But tbh I wish it had a bit of prediction because due to me being shaky sometimes I just looked like a withdrawn meth addict :/

when i was using the kinzu v1 my aim wasn't smooth at all... I had the most possible shaky aim at times.

actually, accel and prediction didn't help to make my aim smoother/ more stable...

my point is that all these predictions and accel are... BAD. Because you learn bad habits for the same result but with some inconsistency.

ofc even with a bad mouse you can be very good at the games, but if you want that extra +1-2% LG and +3-4% rail, just forget the kinzu...

also the kinzu is a pretty unique mouse and it won't be produced anymore because of the kinzu v2. So the day you will have to change your mouse you'll NEVER find something similar sensor wise... there's simply none.

and look at the new mice from steelseries razer or logitech, they pretty much all share a last generation of avago sensor without any kind of accel/prediction/anglesnapping etc.. So there again, the day you will have to change your mouse, you'll be stuck in a trap, and you'll have to relearn to aim without mouseaccel or any crap like this.

and let's be honest, having a very 'pure' sensor which reproduces at perfection your mouse movements is sexier than having a sensor which theorically recorrects any of your mouse movements, sounds like a bad kind/weak version of aim assist tbh :PPP

after two weeks it arrived.
apart from the fact that the mouse buttons click itself sometimes when you lift the mouse up and put it back on the surface (by too much force) it is a very good mouse.
though that self-click issue fucks me really up sometimes.
maybe the buttons need some "manly load" as dem0n mentioned before.
or maybe it is just because i am still used to my old logitech G3 where the lifthight felt like 1cm.

i'm currently using a razer krait 2k13 which has the exact same sensor as the DA 2k13 with supposedly "smoothing" but after switching from the razer abyssus to this i just don't notice any "smoothing" at all...

It's no coincidence that in the grand final of the last major lan both players used the same mouse and mousepad. While both and most known quake duel players use accel so that negative accel threshold (not malfunction) is never hit, at the same time it's no coincidence that the best shaft player ever uses a wmo and he uses a stupidly low sens and without accel. Want another coincidence? Easily 80% if not 90% of quake duel lans ever were won using that sensor, including the wmo, 1.1 and 3.0. It is that dominant here.

in the grand final of the last major lan both players had been playing quake for roughly 10-12 years, which was the glory days of WMO and was ubiquitous then as say SteelSeries and Razer are now, as you know. The best shaft player has been playing at a top tier level for over a decade as well, and 80-90% of Quake lans won with that sensor is a logical assumption given that Quake rewards the long term professional players more than other game. WMO is an excellent mouse, but I think the experience of the players renders it irrelevant. Put any competent mouse in their hands and they'll be fine. You can argue that Cypher is a lesser player without one but quite honestly he's still top tier online and he always improves on lan (as with rapha)

Well cypher's skill went down substantially every time he switched to a razer mouse, including the deathadder, the abyssus and now the taipan. As for the other finalist, rapha dismissed a xai.

There's plenty of current examples today of top players that have tried other mice in their 'careers' and switched back to that mouse, including skulp (I asume I'll get a plus from him for this).

Wmo is a decent mouse and nothing more, only people who like it are the ones who played with it since forever and so every mouse feels weird in comparison.

I bought my first wmo for christmas last year from China and I'm very satisfied with it.

There are some things on it that definitely could be better imo. The button switches are better on many newer mice, mouse cord is stiff and could better, the scroll wheel is low quality and feels cheap. No side buttons can be annoying for use outside gaming, having to overclock the Hz and remove windows acceleration is annoying if u switch computers. It's lightweight but could definitely be built lighter with the same shape.

The shape and good sensor are the main things that make it awesome, it's got the perfect size and sides for me.

Imo the WMO is still one of the best mice there is.
As far as tracking goes the WMO is just as good as any of the new 3090 mice, even better than some (some implementations of the sensor are better than others).
The weight is really low, which is a huge plus in my books and a lot of people love the shape.

Only thing newer mice do better than the WMO is the PCS, which is pretty low on the WMO (~1.5).
But personally I can go as low as 50cm/360 and not have any problems with the low PCS.

So yeah, if you don't mind the low PCS, WMO is still kind, especially if you considder that you can get it for a fraction of the money you'd have to spend on any of the current generation mice.

Shape and personal preference notwithstanding... there have been many mice w/ better sensors and switches since at least 2007 (original deathadder and mx518 at least). Now just about every mouse on the market is objectively better than the intellimice and wmo.

The fact that most gaming mice either lack angle snapping, or can toggle it, have higher perfect control speeds, have updated hardware, switches, whatever, you name it. Lack of angle snapping, or as much as possible, was the major thing about the IME if I am not mistaken.

I can understand people are used to a shape and fond of a mouse, I dig that; some ESRers girlfriends probably would find that attachment to be adorable. But objectively, even when OCd to 1000 hz the perfect control speeds of the IME are laughably bad by today's standards. It is harder to be aware of than some other mice because of the relatively unique way the IME malfunctions (from what I understand it doesn't clip, it only neg accels)., That and the fact that I understand as primarily a cs player, I am going to be clipping mice much more easily than the average quake player due to playing at lower sensitivities.

But yes, I firmly believe that if you are not physically addicted/dependent on the IME or WMO shape to a pathological point, there is a better option out there, its just a matter of finding it and adjusting to it. Saying pros keep going back to it so it much have some value can be shot down in many ways. 1) preference 2) ritual/sports psychology 3) high risk of trying to master another mouse already being a master 4) its an appeal to authority logical fallacy to say pros use it, therefore its good; if anything pros do good IN SPITE of that mouse. Or maybe people just play with high enough sense and/ or accel it just really doesn't matter it has such a easily flustered sensor because they don't reach that point.

my G100s does 2.8 m/s a second on my mousepad or roughly that and I need a more dependable mouse for CS. I love the shape, simplicity, sensor - other than the fact 2.8 m/s is too low for me to play cs. I can't even imagine how bad 1 m/s - 1.5 m/s would be. G100s is my fav mouse, but it has gotten me killed to many times clipping out when i needed fast rotations at low sensitivities that just about all other modern gaming mice can provide.

G502, tracks like a beast on anything. It is built like no other. Looks freaky, but it doesn't feel much different than the standard logitech mx518/g400/g500 shape and they got rid of the god awful ridge on the right hand side of the mouse. I just wish it was smaller and lighter. I would love for its sensor to be put in a g100s.

hell even my g9x (ADNS 9500 based) with its intermittent 5% accel and retardedly positioned sensor I would take any day over a mouse that shits out the second you move it past grandma speed. It can track way past 4 m/s. In my opinion even a mouse with a sensor with a known flaw as just stated, that tracks significantly higher without neg accel and/or clipping is going to be a better mouse.

WMO/IMO/IME are pretty much the only mice people used in CS originally. Many still do to this day. There was a MX-series playerbase, and prediction in CS terms can't be considered a flaw to the same degree it can in Quake, but the MLT04 line is the holy grail in the CS scene as well. It's just that professionals had at some point have sponsors step in, so now everyone is using steelseries, Razer or Zowie mice, which people simply copy.

As for whether the WMO is still king. Of course a large part of its popularity has to be attributed to the fact that it was the first mouse to truly captivate the competitive gaming niche, but I am convinced that the MLT04 to this day is the purest sensor out there. I have been trying new mice and always end up going back to the OMB because either there are definite flaws with the tracking, or you just can't shake the feeling of there being flaws. As soon as you connect the old comrade again, you simply feel safe. Not to mention that ironically enough the build quality of the MLT04 line of mice is miles ahead of what today's manufacturers bring out. They were truly built to last, whereas other mice develop all kinds of problems.

I take your word for everything except the MLT04(which as far as I got is WMO/IMO/IE3) being built to last. I broke 2 wmo's with probably not even a year of play on either and while my IE3 lasted a happy time it was nothing more than a surprise because it seemed like it was made with loose screws when I took it out of the box.

How did you break them? Were they new or refurbished?
However, I do agree that they feel cheap and with the revisited IME3.0 version, Microsoft undeniably tried to save as much production cost as possible with that one.
But in terms of being long-lasting, the WMO/OMB and at least the original IME never let me down. The cable, coating, shell, switches, mouse wheel all still work as if the mouse was new. Then there's the fact that these mice seperate the mouse clicks from the main plastic whereas most mice these days use a 1-piece mold where you have to bend the plastic to actuate the switches. This over time changes the feel of them, whereas seperated clicks always stay the same.

MLT04 also includes the OMB (Optical Mouse Blue), which I find to feel the least cheaply made out of the line (rigid MOUSE1/MOUSE2, the scrollwheel bug occurs less frequently, thick plastic, no top layered coating that could change over time, the top mold is a smooth glossy plastic). It does have small mouse feet which you have to put bigger ones on top of though.

Also, show me another mouse that 10+ years after having stopped production still has thousands of people using and even buying it. No other mouse has even had the chance to compare to this test of time, and seemingly no other mouse could. The Logitech mice that are known for their build quality and are roughly around as long are much more prone to have a cable, switch or coating issue.

Both were brand new OEM's if I recall correctly, both killed by the classic cable problem. Just like 90% of the broken wmo threads I remember. And I can't show you a mouse like that because most of them aren't 10 years old let alone stopped from production for so long. Maybe my zowie won't outlast my IE3(which did not last 10 years, and it wasn't the cable that killed it but the m2 switch) but it sure is comforting that it doesn't rattle like a baby toy every time I pick it up, it actually never does.

No, obviously if you are not breaking its perfect control speed, then the intellimouse would not be an issue. At 1.5 m/s max, with forced ocing I would do that even playing quake, where I play with a sense over twice as high as I do in cs.

I think it would be down to objective measurements to decide if any two different mice under both operating below perfect control speeds had some sort of precision advantage over the other. However, this notion its the newer contenders that have something to prove is a product of bias. If the sensors can already track at higher speeds, lack angle snapping, logic would only lead one to assume that a less taxed sensor (the one further from its threshold than the other) would perform either better, or evenly.

Logitech G502 sensor (Pixart 3366DM) > Intellimouse 1.1a/WMO/Explorer 3.0 (MLT04).
The only question is whether you will like the shape/mouse wheel/design. Sensor wise, the Pixart 3366DM is a true successor to the intellimice.

Just an example; quite a few tests said that the PixArt 3305 sensor (well, they were talking about the mouse, not the sensor itself) a pinpoint precise p0wnz0rk1ller tool. In reality, it's a grandiose pile of pigshit with occasional jitter, random skips from time-to-time, and horrible smoothing-feeling, where the rapid, tiny adjustments and flickshots are a real pain to execute.

Not that I really care about this shiny brick tho - still 50 g heavier and 6345 button more that I ever want to use.

It's just about an hour for me. My muscle memory is kind of independent from specific mouse-related habits.
That 3305 is just a piece of crap.

for me 1000Hz and 1800 dpi (default) was best.

The g502's grip is unwieldly. Watch nvc's stream his aim was a lot worse and it wasn't his fault. The mouse's grip is shit.

A new mouse doesn't change your aim that drastically unless it's very bad. Just look at it, you don't get any real finger support, and it's enormous.

I don't have big hands and this mouse isn't that big also I can grip it quite easily with my fingertip claw hybrid grip.

No, the max tracking speed is 1.5 m/s which is low. The clicks are bad (you can test on human benchmark reaction test), you don't get much finger support which some people actually like...

Intellimouse 1.1 is similar but just better. Much better clicks and a better grip.

I have three wmo's and an intellimouse 1.1a. With the intellimouse your fingers are on your mousepad while the wmo you barely get any contact with the mouespad.

I don't see anyone in QL who can track anything like that. All the cs players including spawn used the intellimouse around that time. None used the WMO because it's not good for direct tracking.

If you want to turn a lot, move your mouse slowly hovering your enemy with lg then the WMO is a better because it smooths your aim out. It filters your panicking and twitchyness.

i use a wmo since 5+ years now, but i need a mouse that support my thumb and pinky, i basicaly would need a mouse with a fat ass (sry for the word) and a tiny front, a little bit like the roccat kova but i never tested it.

I would wait until SS release their "wmo copy", should be out by the end of the year afaik. The concept is identical to the Rival: copy shape and weight, fix flaws. And I mean, the Rival is hands down better than the 3.0 so should be good.

Sounds good. Their IMO 1.1ss was quite decent besides the shitty buttons were just as shitty as they are on the IMO 1.1ss
(e.g. utter useless, I even managed to get them pushed into the mouse so they are now effeictely even more useless and there's a shitty hole where they used to be).

That being said, the sensor is still key.
The 1.1 IMOss used the exact same sensor as the IMO 1.1 and the WMO 1.1 though. I do however love the WMO/IMO 1.1 sensor, so I woulnd't mind them using that.
But beeing a medium/high sensitivity-ish player, I have never met the malfunctioning speed, so maybe they do need to update it for lower sensitivity players.

I just love my Zowie FK (Avago 3090). At the highest dpi on the Artisan Zero pad it feels better than any other mouse I've tried. It also has a shape which closely resembles the WMO so overall I think it's a great successor.

I saw a WMO in a dumpster full of computer parts last year while ditching some stuff at the dump. I grabbed it and cleaned it up, it works perfectly. It's the latest addition to my WMO rescue centre.
