It's a difficult process being a newcomer in any game that has a playerbase the top competitors of which can have experience bordering on nearly 15 years (be it MOBA, FPS or RTS) is a long and arduous road so congratulations for perseverance to anyone attempting :)

imo Quake is harder than other fps games to get into. Maybe only Starcraft 1 is even worse. I'm noob but I just don't care that people can smash me.

In scbw you are guaranteed to have some minutes of playing safely, whereas in quake noobs are destroyed in 5 seconds.

it's sad when the only site for Quake is riddled with trolls and idiocy. every other game has a reputable site that actually cares about a good community (CS has HLTV, SC has TL, etc) except Quake. why bother posting your opinion when mean-spirited and mentally disturbed people are free to do what they want here. how people like Jamerio aren't banned is beyond me, seeing his idiocy filled in ridiculous amounts of threads makes me think the admins of this site don't understand the negative impact of posters like that. honestly it's like this site secretly celebrates people who post that kind of garbage. it's not noob-friendly here, it's not nice here, the only thing constructive here is the news content. you might as well turn off comments because it adds nothing to the site. threads about cheating accusations are deleted, yet trolls are free to post whatever they want.

ESR is not an official quake site. Actually some people would say this is not a quake site per se.

technically that's true, but the reality is that you wouldn't come here for anything but quake. UT has their own sites (unreal north), warsow has it's own site, etc. While it's not meant to be a Quake site, that's what it's kind of turned in to.

What needs to be done is advertising the good things that come from this community. Advertising jamerio does no good to the world.

That's why I have always said that quakelive.com should take advantage of its centralized system, with:
1) a stream side bar and promoting streams in general
2) community news side bar that actually works
3) tournament info
4) embed streams and embed chat rooms (irc quakenet)
5) info on community efforts such as MM's spawns, qlprism, huds, some cfgs, some greasemonkey scripts, etc.

Didn't make up any of these, since League of Legends (game for 8 year old girls) does all that and a lot more. The QL community involvement could be much bigger if they knew that there are cups with prize money prices practically every single day.

that sounds good except the need for a site like this would still exist, since what you listed would be heavily moderated for legal reasons. it would help out new players and keep people active though, it's a shame stuff like that wasn't done years ago.

LoL doesn't care much about that and its audience is far younger than quake.

Actually just remembered the pony tailed dude (Todd) left id and he was the one behind the decision of making QL what it is right now (a piece of crap). Can those absurdly restrictive policies change now? Who is now in charge of the project?

I doubt it, project management probably has a small amount of money put towards QL, since DOOM4 is their main project right now (rumor). I seriously seriously doubt someone at Zenimax/ID will suddenly pump money, time and effort into a three year old game.

Yes quakelive.com integration of community stuff is the only way for the NA scene to move forward at this point. Its too fractured and too many players exist in a total daze (no irc, no esr reading, no fucking clues lol)

plus no real ranking system. qlranks had the right idea, but the ranked/unreanked system in ql makes it extremely flawed. four tiers isn't enough, but a broken elo system doesn't work either.

I actually registered here thinking it was heh.. I started to wonder wtf I saw so much starcraft bs.. then it dawned on me the es in esreality stood for ESPORTS (groan). But its a very nice website they've coded here, you can just tag all the non quake games to ignore them, and ignore all the batshit insane trolls and then its a much more readable place :) Its not exactly ideal but this place has become the quake community website... I just wish people in NA would get the fkn memo already.. theres not many people that read this from there, and the guys that do are mostly ca freaks..

Whenever theres ctf/tdm stuff posted on esr I go in the mumbles and IRC chans and spread word and literally no one ever knows about it or reads esr lol =/ frustrating.

TFC had "The Clan Catacombs" for 10+ years. Everyone and anyone who played it competitively had it set as their homepage.. EVERYONE knew what was going on in the scene all the time. They posted match predictions, match summaries, clan flame wars :) Many pages of reading for all of them... a true sense of community was had.

And even after some crazy guy who didnt play TFC bought the site and shut it down (long weird story of mental illness and ego tripping lol) the remaining players in the scene (of a game from 1999) made www.tfcommunity.com in I think 2012.. most have come back and joined to just have their forum again.. the comp scene in tfc died off in 2008 finally anyway. They'll do some reunion stuff now and then tho... This is how a functioning scene or community is supposed to be damnit! :p

Oldschoolers of q3 tell me there was a similar website for the q3 scene before 2003... why the fuck did it go down and why did clanning die out and why didn't the guys bring it back? 99-03 is so short for such a stellar game =/ Oh well. Quakers :p

esr is the best this way. it was never meant to be a safe place for every quaker ever. you can ignore the mongoloids and there are some semi smart people here that have interesting and hillarious shit to say.

promoting esr will get 10 new raythenoobs/cooloutacs everyday to this site.
