QLRanksTV uses a HD 4000 on cpu gfx card.

Does it maintain a steady 125fps, and what resolution do you run at? I'm going to be building a cheap PC for someone who plays QL occasionally, and was looking at just using the processor's HD 4000.

125fps @ 720p, rock solid. Cpu is i7 3770T.

Pretty sure it does 125fp rock solid at 1080p also.

Now I know that I'm a rookie at this sort of stuff, which should explain why I'm asking. But what you are saying is that with the intel HD 4000 on board gfx card it should be np to play quake live with stable 125 fps if the cpu is sufficient? Especially when using an ultra tweaked config?

That is exactly what i'm saying, except that any modern cpu that has a HD 4000 will play at 125fps, with any config.

Unless you want to play quake at 4K resolution..

Not true in general. It works on your CPU and on duel maps that QLRanks TV streams.

I have an HD 4000 in a mobile i5 and it drops to 110 on many maps and of course below 70 on Terminatria (but that's also CPU-bound). 1366x768 resolution.

Still playable of course and way above 40 fps of QLRanks TV, but stating it will run 125 fps on any map and any config is false.

Now that Haswell architecture is out, you should go after a model with HD 5000 (Iris Pro Graphics 5200 or something, when it's out), that one is actually twice as powerful as the HD 4000. It will probably run QL at solid 125 with 8xAA on.

The integrated gpu should be enough to play.
But why don't you use a graphic card for streaming? With Anti-Aliasing the quality would be better (would make a difference in 720p). Like on the screenshots - edges, texture filtering, flickering stairs.

i have a i5 3450 with hd 2500 igp w/o native video card. it runs pretty good with steady 125fps. only downside: 85hz max. :(

hm, okay.. is it not possible to plug in an external screen and raise the hz?

...so why were you rambling on about desktop/laptop? If you think that you can't feed more than 85 frames per second to a monitor on a desktop, you are mistaken.

HD4000 should do, but I dont have first hand experience. Also, make sure that your new laptop has a displayport or mini-displayport, if not you will not be able to get 120hz stable.

I recently started using my laptop for gaming (I got rid of my desktop for various reasons, getting a new one soon) and it only has HDMI and VGA ports. I had to use the HDMI-port and use a overclocking utility to boost the hz up to 110 (if I went over 114 I got bad picture). HDMI will not give you 120hz@1080.

Never versions of HDMI (starting with 1.4b) can support 1080p@120hz but devices with that are pretty rare afaik.

I play on a macbook pro that has this integrated video card. On mac Os it's unplayable but on linux it runs at 125fps smoothly on every map.
If you're going to buy a laptop try to find one that has a good cooling system. Although I can play here the CPU temperature while I play is between 95 - 105 degrees depending on the map ..

anybody knows if AMD supports on the A85X mainboards 120fps output ?

I recently tried this on my 4670k. I got 125fps fine, but I had trouble getting high refresh rates and resolutions to work on my CRT. I was getting max 85hz and 1280x1024 res because it couldn't read my monitor EDID well enough and denied me access to the advanced tab of the graphics driver with custom res and refresh rate options. I was able to edit the EDID into a new monitor driver to get 120hz, but I still couldn't get the resolution or refresh rate higher even though the monitor was capable. It might just be my monitor though.
