Right - I'd actually say it's the opposite of a pleasure to watch - what's enjoyable about one-sided, aim-heavy games? I'd much rather see a match along the lines of Rapha-Cooller, where there are one or two points on the board and each frag took many minutes of strategy, planning, positioning, and perfect execution. With the exception of the 30-minute K1llsen-Pavel game recently, nearly all of K1llsen's games are 100% predictable and not any fun to watch.

Of course, you can criticize these statements all you want, but in the end, I'm just chiming in with what I view as enjoyable gameplay to spectate, and that's just my opinion, so criticism is futile (although debate is not).

Well, everyone is entitled to his opinion and you certainly have a point. The reason why I enjoy watching k1llsen games? Both first frags on ztn and dm6 were just out of this world. Who does stuff like this to one of the big four? The way k1llsen executes his skill is just so much fun for me to watch. How he lines up railshots, predicts his opponent and dodges while hitting 50 percent lg is unique. Just rewatch the first frag on dm6. How he dodges and still maintains such a high acc is just art (at least for me :P) Quake for me is still an fps where combat skills play a huge part. When cypher and k1llsen play, both in their best shape, then Im like *fap*fap*fap* :D.

Tho I enjoy aim heavy players vs brain players the most. Av3k vs cypher, k1llsen vs cooller (and how cooller controls the map vs k1llsen), strenx vs rapha and so on.

125FPS upped their ante a lot, would be nice if we could somehow donate to keep this shit going, I'm guessing the anonymous Alexey A won't be giving out 500$ each month for this and I'm really enjoying the action that their bringing.

Zoot's stream is looking healthier than ever, I know some might bash me for saying that but racking up 1000 viewers every single day of the week is quite impressive. Not sure if it has to do with mexican ins + pony layout, but things are looking quite well for quake now.

Even QLranks has ~100 viewers on their 24/7 stream at all times.

Looks like we have to choose between going out and enjoy the warm summerish days or stick to quake 4 lyf

1.- esr sidebar. Said it for years: people only watch streams if they are in front of their eyes. No one searches, in any game.
2.- some streams having recognition. Sometimes there's awesome matches on sadlytv but it has 5 viewers, for example the nations ctf grand final. Were that be on zoot's stream and would have been completely different.

Some real good games between baksteen and cooller. Although I have mixed feeling about it -- if only baksteen would hit a little bit more, he'd win at least 1-2 maps. So many missed shots: that last minute rl vs pg fight on dm13, almost every single fight in RA area on t7 (so poor rockets vs strong cooller's lg). Also, that single facial rocket from cooller on toxicity making the game 9-8 (while making comeback) and another single direct one while in OT... I'd be so down on baksteen's place after all that, so big props to him.

baksteen also played amazing. His rail is really good, he caught cooller off guard a lot of times hitting sneaky rails when cooller was in movement. He slowed him down a few times which allowed him to get on the items.

Problem is that when cooller stands on the red, even 4-5 seconds earlier, baksteen can hardly do anything with a similar stack as he can't bounce him off with the rockets nor hit enough lg to kill cooller before the red pickup. I doubt that cooller would have done this so many times vs. cypher.

Thoughts on it?

I hate rocket fights when enemy is on RA on t7. Fucking bug with rockets not doing damage because of the edges on the floor, but yea, Cooller did some amazing dodges aswell.

On dm13 baksteen would have won with better lg imo.
He gets Cooller in such nice positions but isn`t able to finish it up. Although he has almost 200/200 he ends on low hp after killing cooller.
HIs gameplay is defenetly on top level... but he needs to improve his aim on the same level. Maybe test some changes in (Weapon)Config?

afaik he uses something like sens 3.5 with 800dpi if I recall correctly. with no accel. that is probably fairly high for good shaft plus good shaft always depends on situation and dodging.

Yeah it's crazy, and his skill a strong reminder of how useful avoiding damage can be. One of those recent cypher games on t7 I saw cooller attacking on bridge two times with lg in one game and simply jumping over cyphers defense rockets, duly timing those jumps. And thought: WTF?

Evil is known to his moments of madness with +forward only. As i think it is dark side of his "PRO SKILLS", and mb there is something more complicated in his mind that he never shows on his face.

Its a part of his game. He and Av3k do that a lot; grab RL / LG rush and try to take away as much stack as possible at the cost of a frag or two.
The problem is, when your aim is off or ure rusty in general, it results in you dying like a ffa noob. And to be honest, Evil seems a bit off for quite some time now so these attacks look dumb and noobish in comparison to DHW, where it worked out mostly fine.

But what I cant stand about Evil are his retarded tactical timeouts. Have your chewing gum, have your keyboard on your lap, play naked or whatevers gonna bring the placebo effect and make u feel comfortable. But interrupting the game like that in order to take away the momentum from your enemy and distract him is desperate and bad mannered.

The stuff Evil was doing the first 3 maps wasn't typical Evil, cooller's son was playing for him those maps!

Yes, Evil does +++++ But normally there's a rhyme and reason behind those attacks. The stuff that took place in the first 3 maps especially DM6 and ZTN was not typical Evil. He gave up the mega ++++backing with advantage on the mega to Guard, not typical. He then in DM6 got a frag, did major damage to Guard on the respawn. But instead of keeping control and get the frag later, he chased Guard up the freaking jump pad to get the frag right away and lost all control of the map and all of his health/armor as well.

Lookin foward to games tonight.

Really enjoy the casting during games, being a regular viewer of all quake tourneys I am getting really sick and tired of zoot's general conversation antics between games.

A simple idea would be to have a few topics, probably gaming related, to talk about in downtime. Preferably not previous tournaments or current shape of the players as you tend to cover that about 10-20 times each stream.

Just my 2c
Still great casting during games though, this 125fps cup has been the most enjoyable thing to watch since 2GD / Joe iem. Keep up the great work!

meh, didn't like guard/evil casting. the casters act like nvc to anyone that's not cooller/cypher. remember nvc casting? which was basically him shouting at his monitor telling players (who were like 10000x better than him) what to do. so I basically stopped watching guard evil 5 mins into the first map. seriously, step it up d00ds, and stop letting your ego get in the way of your casting.

It's a very standard fight and frag. Happens all the time. Cooller timed his entrance badly and k1llsen timed his rocket nicely. Nothing lucky about it.
With your logic every spam rocket by default is lucky. I'm sure cooller had some of those in their games aswell.

The thing is, people basically revere Quake because it's NOT supposed to be a game where the better aimer is the better player, but unfortunately, it still is.
People here bash CoD, Shootmania and similar "brainless games" all the time but then comes k1llsen and proves that Quake is not immune to mindless human aimbotting being on top of otherwise significantly better players.

DM6: it was 50/50, 3-4 very important frags cooller survived with few hp, few jumps on RA was no on his favour, if 2-3/10 50/50 situations went different, cooller could lost that ez.
Aero: cooller couldn't make frag after took full control in 6th minute. He was need to risk, die or frag.
ZTN: coollers : few of first frags cooller just gave it for free. and later he did a lot of mistakes. realy bad played ztn.

IMO it's cooller thinking problems, he comes in first maps serious ,owns so often and when just get to excited and then misjudge his opponent. And even often in happens in single map, he starts so good, get few insane frags, with crazy shots and then after stupid mistakes he just got eaten later..

That was annoying indeed, the severe lagging to start right when cooller was looking to catch up on the score.

That said, I'm really not expecting anybody having a regular job to come home weekdays and consistently play a top game.

yeah, he knew then that he had to gamble on the rocket pickup. didnt work out for him as k1llsen went in with shaft. didnt kill him but weakened him enough to make an easy frag later on.

also it felt that cooller, having to make up frags, kind of played textbook aggressive hunt style vs k1llsen. he hardly set traps imho. hardly tried to go the unconvential way. leaving some of the major items up for a longer time.

then again it was awesome to see cooller play dm6. he is just so good on on that map. he always denied the angles, and k1llsen could not utilize his rail. Of course, you expect that from him but I did not imagine to that extent.

and dont get me started on the dodge.

The key point is "part time dueler, full time clan arena player".
Quake dueling isn't as tactical and strategic after all, not when you have a player that aims like an aimbot that can win against a player who is known as the "mastermind" of the game. Did he outsmart cooller? No. His game on DM13 was basically hiding in a corner for 5 minutes and hitting direct defensive rockets. Similar story on hub. He did play a great game on ztn but that's about it.
Yet he won, unfortunately.

k1llsen was always a top dueler with the weakness to sometimes throwing his games away by mistiming / beeing loose minded. he doesnt do many mistakes latly tho and thus noone is really shocked about cooller loosing even tho he has beaten cypher recently. loosing to k1llsen atm is not a shame

Anyway ups and downs are always happening in any sport-esport, today Cooller wasn't 100% on his game and you could see it when he misstimed the items and messed up the item rotation on DM13. How many times did he do that in... His lifetime?

So okay, it is 10 big international LANs (I also didn't count some small international LANs with small prizes btw).

Anyway, it doesn't even matter at all, because when I say he is back, I mean that he is back to defining for other players what it even means to play this game, even if he doesn't win in the end. Half of things that every quaker now does in duel were first demonstrated in game by cooller, and he is now at same level of creativity to shape the future of quake again.

And main point is that if you think that such complex game as quake can be described by such dumb mechanical criteria of counting 1st place LAN finishes, then you are extremely wrong. Some LANs are such that winning it signifies only tiny victory in a small battle, but cooller had LANs where in his every map he won a whole World War if we look at it in the context of whole quake history.

for top tier players it wasn't so great i guess. games was intense and close, but to much simple mistakes for such big caliber players.

I miss rapher :( he can play map with 0 mistakes or bo5 with 2-3 mistakes gathered from all maps. (ps. ofcors playing against evil, it's hard, becouse of his insane game style).

Sure. Many clumsy weapon choices/switch. When to be agreesive and when not to be aggressive etc. :D But cypher and evil did showcase some impressive combat skill numerous times. The games were not "clinical" but the whole series did have plenty of control and "ninja" elements as well. WERE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED? ;D

This is totally bitched down... Evil has thrown out his game on the last three maps like a sleeping dog... I know he's tired like hell and doesn't prepare for games at all, but it's still sad to watch the downfall of The Champion.

Damn... Such a good start with t7 for both, and after that cypher just outplaying k1llsen in every aspect. Painful to watch, k1llsen just can't do shit against him. Quite a dissapointing final.

In which universe was it very interesting? T7 was awesome, rest of the maps played were boring -- cypher was dominating: predicting every move and hitting every control rocket etc. Well, to each his own, that's my opinion.

I appreciate close games or at least somewhat close. This final had only one of those. Right after t7 ended to me it seemed cypher cracked the k1llsen's code and the German couldn't do anything to withstand cypher's pressure. Boring, for me, not for you, we figured that already :)

cypher didnt play crazy good, he played good
it looks great because of k1llsen played very very bad. Shakie movements (not his ussually, it was much more than ussually), switchs mistakes (come on! r u kiddin me?) and he looks soo scary.
And it's not because of cypher didnt let him play his own playstyle, but because he became too scary and this was his own problem.

He did play crazy good, believe me. k1llsen was forced to play really defensive after he got repeatedly destroyed in fights where he didn't expect it at all. Just look at the first dm13 frag and the exchanges leading up to it.

Once he felt that cypher could outdamange him at will whenever they saw one another he started playing more carefull and defensive, trying to only take the 'sure' fights. But cypher kept reading his movements around the map incredibly well and didn't allow him to even stack up. Don't think I've ever seen k1llsen this chanceless.

At least we promote it on the French websites. lanf3ust uses the aAa.Tv, which gives some visibility, and I feature the stream on the main page of esportsfrance too to try to bring more viewers. Numbers of viewers is around 150 during matches, which is actually surprisingly high according to me.

Still, if that streams continues, it may very well encourage some French to watch some QL and who knows, make them want to play it too.
