Still hope on evil's frag movie... with SENSE OF TASTE.

Quite underwhelming. 'Epic' music throughout the whole movie while nothing epic was shown. Just ends up making it monotonous and dull. And it's not like 'epic' content wasn't available. The way you showed Pavels comeback vs Strenx on dm13 in that context is downright criminal.
Should have mixed up the music, filtered out some of the mediocre frags and it could have been a REALLY good movie.

Of course there are also positives. The quality is very nice and suits the music. There is some nice synchronization and some good editing ideas (frag messages for double frags were cool). A bunch of excellent frags unfortunately diluted by a lot of average frags. Overall a decent frag collection but it could have been more than that.

yes, this is what I felt as well.

For example, movie begins with a very average shotgun quadrun from hidden fortress, given the quality of players in 102, pretty sure better quadruns could be found.

for me the best thing in the movie was latrommi's rj out of dm14 void to kill quad, that was some kick ass reflex. The movie has some great moments but its marred by bunch of average filler frags.

Agreed, have pretty much same thoughts about it.

Negatives: too much filler frags, 'epic' music overload, pavel vs strenx comeback (huh?).

Positives: overall visually clean cfg, yt compression was so great I forgot it wasn't a downloaded movie, some awesome syncing (that triple nade frag on dm20 mmm) + very cool outro (amazing song!).

Thought about giving it 8 or 9, will give 9. Solid moviemaking skills, gotta respect that ^_^

i dont see how a 2:30 min long clip could do any good. including a duel clip over 2:30 min would be awful, cutting a 2:30 min long clip to fit into a smooth movie would be even worse. the biggest problem was including that clip in the first place, but its not a major thing. a bit underwhelming maybe

30s to OT normal/1.5x time scale + upto the first frag after OT in 2-3x time scale + then go straight to end result in 10x or higher time scale, that would have been justice.

I don't need to write a full reply now, you did it for me. I thought the editing was fantastic it's simplicity and thought out layout, however while some frags were amazing, others were a waste of time and didn't do the movie any justice. Also music didn't QUITE do it for me. And yeah smoothness over sharpness, but I didn't find it too much a problem. Fuck I wrote a whole reply anyway ^^

he was in 102 while movie was directed, then he left - that's why only one quadrun (just didn't remove it)

I started releasing movies for DoD and CS in 2004. The standard forums in those communities were dodfrance, zpg and cs-view for cs films. On those forums, people never judged a movie based on music because it's a matter of taste (if the music wasn't completely fucktarded).

I released my first QL movie in 2k10, and all I got for a response was "lol shit music sounds like a fanfare" or w/e. I tried 2 years later, same response. There can be no educating, the community is shit for appreciating movies for what they are, and always will be.

Another thing is that, yes, stylistically, I think epic violin shit was already played out in 2006. That makes it hard for me to watch yet another violin movie 7 years later, and I tend to get a little jumpy.

TL;DR : i'm not bashing for the sake of bashing, I think the movie was really well made, I just can't appreciate it for what it is with the violin stuff. And I think that's a style decision that shows the moviemaker has bad taste.

There's a difference though. Although I think the music itself was pretty good, I think using THAT music for a fragmovie is played out. That means I'm not actually commenting on the music itself, merely the use of it. Most people just comment on their liking the music or not.

... this is the how i like a quake movie, awesome editing, syncing, fraging, artwork, effects. DAT plasma hits and blue flamed rockets are so potat! ... and i cant belive! ... actually some1 with a sence for a typeface.

... also why not have an awesome movie like this, with awesome artwork and effects and then release/sell this stuff to the public via quakelive page and ofc get a share of the profit from it. This is one road how quakelive as a social page should look like... this would be a nice financial contributor. -There is so much community work out there.

While watching, I couldnt help myself but think that this coulve been much, much better. Some frags are nothing but mediocre, theres this worn out 'epic' music and since I remember some of the moments from the movie, Id love to see them w/o music to enjoy their awesomeness and not cut into 5s pieces.
Also expected more frags from DHW 2012, where your horse won.

I felt nostalgic watching this. Excellent movie.

watched it three times. sg&quad start is classic, nothing wrong with that, it shows power. epic music is a bit too much. evil and pavel are so talented, i wish each duel scene were a bit longer because i generally like how a situation was born to feel the frag BUT this is a teammovie and edited fast paced. i like the white tiny rocket effect. so much blood fontains :> nice varity of maps, good and funny frags. some scenes are branded in my mind. at the outro beginning at 7:30 nice snyching with slowmo. very entertaining movie, gj!"

wow this is really great. my only issue with the whole movie is that the start is very boring with mediocre frags. The first 90 seconds should not have been included. 8 minutes would have been a good length too~

luckily I continued watching & from that point on its really great.

I loved the music, really made it epic & different (not heard them in other movies unlike the 10s of movies using that "ready steady go" track). the 1 song before last was a bit random though...like a weird blend of The Contender theme with some other theme & some other song with a hint of gayness. the last song is awesome :o

All the discussion on music makes me 'Oo'.

Lets think about 102. for a second. They've basically been building their own brand image. Take a peek at the QL Renaissance cup, the use of art and their hype video. Deliberate murder guys generally have a gothic feel to everything they do. People would probably understand a lot more if they met Cooke ^^

I think the music is a perfect fit, if it used any other genre I would quite frankly be disappointed. I don't believe Deliberate Murder are trying to mimic The Contenders or It's Pekka 2 or what ever... they're just being consistent.

There's plenty of modern classic and/or gothic music that is not cheesy generic trailer soundtracks.
Apocalyptica, even if somewhat overused, would make perfect sense here, since i don't know a single russian who's not into them to some degree.

Im currently 3 minutes in and have seen only 1-2 things i would even consider to put in a frag video. Im sure there is more to go and I will give it a chance and watch it, but i think its very important to put really flashy 'wow' type frags early on so that it sucks the viewer in... if it wasnt sunday and i had nothing to do id have stopped watching by now :P the editing is really nice though i like the way it looks. OK finished maybe there was no amazing frags :P

also big ups for dragon rider 2 steps from hell or whatever that song is, its my second favourite SCBW players (or ex player) intro music heh

I agree with twister. The intro was horrible worlds least exciting quad run? With a fucking shotgun lol. Pavels comeback could have been better displayed ie commentators over the top. Maybe some voices of commentators even talking about how good 102 really are. Music was too different for a frag type movie. I hated not knowing who I was watching until the frag. The players weren't introduced at all until the end. I'll give you a 5 for trying really hard on a new idea
