Technically speaking, f course they are. But I always get a twitch in the neck whenever people call them FPS because IMO they're nothing more than shooting galleries.

Also I'm not saying you have to like the game. I don't particularly like Nexuiz myself. But I can appreciate what they tried to do here. And the most people who hate on the game hasn't even played it so they are just talking out of their asses anyway. And it's really hard to get Quake players over to another game because of how specific a role things like movement and mouse reaction has to the game. Something you won't hear an RTS or Moba player complain about.

Why fault them for it? Because they failed with their new ideas, duh. Their project turned out pathetic and the only proper course is to dump it and go on. If we pity them and pretend that it's a good game, we'd just get another poor shooter, but if we, as players, clearly demonstrate to them that they had chosen wrong way, then maybe next time they use their funding to collaborate with professionals and produce an actually good game, not just one that falsely pretends to be such.

It's their job to do that, but we as costumers, it's not our job to like and support anything they show us, and I speak for myself, i'm not impressed with the game and it's nowhere near quake (movement wise, graphics wise, weapons etc etc).

So if you want someone to lie to you as a developer ask your wife about the quality of the game, she will tell you wonders about you, here you will see honest opinions from experienced gamers. That is not a bad thing for someone who is willing to listen to the real opinion of the mob.

think about the perspective of a cod or halo player. without new, marketed games nobody is exposed to arena gameplay. quake is forgotten and niche, id doesn't support it. ql is almost entirely a labor of love by the few devs that work on it. the only way its still getting players is by curious people in starcraft or tf2 forums, streams, or people googling f2p games etc.

I had friends that loved q4 on xbox, according to major nelsons uu list q4 had 20,000-30,000 for a solid 4-6 months. top ten at one point with games like cod 2 out. id never patched it and never released content. people still played with the bugs and loved it cause it was different and fun. just think how many of those people went to pc quake, think how many more would have if it was patched/supported. id doesnt care about the brand or bringing attention to it.

the newbie is the most important part of a mp community and arena fps is sorely lacking. at the very least nexuiz and shootmania bring more people in, more people means more incentive for devs to produce more. appreciate this shit.

Wrong, people who play on xbox won't come to play it on PC at all because all they care about is their xbox.

So what would they do ?
Go back to play the xbox version where they are the kings of their own realm.

I'm not 100% sure why id didn't focus more on Q4 but I think one reason could be cause the game was pretty shit and people didn't like it (at least not the hardcore quake fans imo)
That's why they got back to their best creation, Quake 3, and developed QuakeLive (again that's just my guess)

Yes id doesn't support the game much and I have no idea who's behind the patches that are developed, but there are patches that come out now and then (there was a new patch on 22nd January)

Sure Quake doesn't get much attention, but as a 13 year old game it still gets its spot in the biggest LAN in the world that is Dreamhack...I dunno if that will still be the case for the next edition but at least it was there at every event in the past (correct me if I'm wrong)
It is also featured in its very own event that is Quakecon (usually poorly organised ok but still it's there)
And it also has 2 daily cups on weekdays + 1 very decent event on every saturday and every sunday thanks to Zowie and FaceIt, all rewarding winners with money.
Not to mention the Clanbase Eurocups, Opencups, Nationcups and the HoQ leagues...

So we need a good new marketed arena FPS to attract people to such gameplay. This has nothing to do with Nexuiz, which isn't such and isn't capable of attracting any players. no i'd look at steam for games played on steam. like mw2 for example. 3+ year old game with 3 sequels, 11,000 users peak today. with quake live and warsow you could just look at servers.

guarantee the number at any time of day is less than 1500. in the u.s. quake live peaks at most a few hundred. warsow is played by 30 people in europe. 20 ppl play quakeworld. I've only seen one populated tastyspleen server on quake 2. etc. etc.

its a niche genre. its not popular. accept it.
