doesn't matter much but u would "benifit" from a 64-bit win..

That matters if you have more than 4 GB of RAM (or plan to get more without reformating).

Theoretically x86_64 specification includes support for all pentium 4 extensions so software compiled for this can always assume that CPU has things like mmx/sse while x86 soft shouldn't. In practice I bet most of 32 bit soft has been assuming this for quite a while anyway.
Especially when it comes to games where binaries always have been heavily tweaked for specific hw including many asm optimizations.
32 bit OS limits size of virtual memory your program can address (it depends but for standard windows it's 2gb).
On the other hand 64 bit programs use around 50% more memory due to longer pointers so if you don't have more than 3.5 gb I'd advice against using 64 bit os.

uninstalled plugin, installed back (not without UAC problems OF COURSE)

fps back to normal and stable

PS : did not reinstall video drivers , but when i checked - it was already the latest version. I assume windows 8 installation does this for you.

This may AGAIN bump against UAC, saying shit like
administrator has set policies to prevent this installation
You may need to log back in as Administrator (google how to enable admin account)

Clicking any .exe will give you most random errors - restard a few times or try to figure our your updates ( FUCKIN PAIN, AGAIN)

Also, if you have games installed on drives other than C, it will prohibit you to overwrite stuff, like

hunkusage.dat (delete the file every time)
writeconfig commands will not work , it will spam console with the error message

I've been running Windows 8 since the first week of August (RTM release) and it is actually a very trivial process to make it behave exactly like Windows 7; it only takes about 5-10 minutes of tweaking to achieve it. Why not just stick with Windows 7? Well, I feel Windows 8 offers some decent improvements over Win7 and it is only $15 for the full version. Plus, for me all my software (including QL) and drivers (including my ATI card, like OP's) from Windows 7 are fully compatible in Windows 8.

For example, I auto-bypass the start screen, boot straight to desktop, have all of the 'hot corners' disabled and have never used a Metro application (Microsoft or third-party). Basically, I've turned off any lame new gimmick, primarily by using the great Classic Shell software also linked above.

My setup: start screen, desktop 1, desktop 2. So basically if you know how to download 1 program (classicshell) and spend 5 minutes with it, Windows 8 should not be a problem.

OP: If your processor supports it, there's not really too many reasons to be running 32bit windows in the year 2012. Not saying that 64bit would fix your problems or anything. Also, check this forum for ATI driver releases (often before they are even released on the official ATI site itself) and other help

The first 3 in the list (boot speed, file copying dialog, improved multi-monitor support) were worth the upgrade for me, but the $15 price for the upgrade was probably the biggest factor

I had no issues with ATI and Windows 8 at all except for not being able to achieve anything above 125hz with HIDUSBF for my 3.0.

Whatever I install windows 7 again.

No quakelive now works on windows 8 thanks microsoft!!!
