I think Tox is a good bet. Maybe Strenx too, depending on how serious they are about the "great players from the past" bit - he doesn't have the history of Tox, Cooller, Stermy but he is a top player and has semi stopped playing Quake for a while now.

It would be really cool if FaceIt flew Rapha in, but that might be a stretch even with their budget :D

They played with an inactive fox... they never lost with their original team. Also the best teams were at dreamhack, all tdm teams played bad at quakecon, cause they were mixes or had a sub.

I cannot think of one... besides if we are gonna talk about legends i guess no one is, because no one dominated the prime of more then one game, painkiller(voo),quake 3(cooller), quake 4(tox) and ql(rapha). stermy didn't dominate the prime of any game, he was just a top contender. a good guy that gives hard time to everyone, but in the end always loses.

I agree czm is a definite legend and I think that the fact that he still likes to play when he can, despite not being able to practice and play at the level he used to is really great - he clearly enjoys the game and he always displays a level of class in his play that is impressive. You can just tell that if he had the time to devote to playing he'd be in the top 3.

Strenx shouldn't be on that list - there's no way he can qualify as an oldschool legend - maybe if it was a cup for legendary whiners then maybe, but he wasn't around much in the heyday of Tox, Cooller etc and he never won any lan ever.

also I never understood why there aren't classic map versions in ql, or q3 content in general (hud, font, etc. DC version is awesome on that. The ps2 version and Quake Arcade on the 360 are pretty good too). It's free to add.

zero4 just came out of a 3 month inactivity and he beat strenx with 100 ping before. Instead of flying in the extra caster why not fly in zero4 or Rapha if they are willing of course.

Well they are bringing an extra caster who lives near by in England.

But of course everybody would rather see Rapha & Zero4 flown and playing with 30 ping instead of 100 and warping.

I just don't think a legends tournament can be complete with out the quake king zero4 hes won world cyber games quake cons hes competed at a high level in quake live too He is bar none the quake god and has the prize winnings to prove it.

I agree that he should play but if its online I suppose it would be better to give the slot to a top European who could play with low ping.

q3 is a lot more suitable for a legends tournament. It's like playing a street fighter 2 legends tournament...on street fighter 4.

installing quake 3 and downloading maps is a lot bigger task than loading up quake live.

QL is not Q3. In a legends tournament legends should play the game in which they were legendary.

This players are inactive or almost inactive but they dont forget how to play quake i think and if map pool will be oldschool, then all of them have some chances to win. And it will be so fresh after the players who participated at dreamhack and now we see enough of them.

And please be realistic neither stelam nor fatality and a hundred of players that you noticed here will not participate, because they are lame right now. May be some of them are 60 y.o

Many were saying that faceit doesn't care about Quake, that it's just a guinea pig for testing the platform and once they introduce big games, they're gonna ditch it. I think this proves that's not the case.

I know shit about esport business but imo part of the prize money should be directly used for all players, as a baseline, for legends. Then give 1st 2nd and 3rd places the rest, why no fourth? well see av3k-cypher not playing the bronze bo5 at DH, bad tournament design, would have been an awesome game but they didnt cared. Fuck that! The bronze game should be rewarding.
