Well it isn't something the size of Quakecon - its in a gaming cafe/bar, I would imagine the logistics of accommodating all those bringing their own hardware as well as ensuring enough PCs for those that can't would be very difficult in a relatively small space. If there wasn't enough space then some would have to keep dismantiling and setting up their PCs everytime a space was needed or became available - it'd be a nightmare:

For the sort of numbers needed for this lan, you'd need space beyond the 2nd pillar in the attached image above if everyone were to bring their own PC. Now I don't know how big the Adroits venue is, but I guess its not gonna be that big...

But yes I suppose you are right also that there really should be some extra PCs so players can enjoy some casual lan games and practice etc...

It's not like you only get to play your match games anyway.. plenty of time in the evenings for anyone to use the computers.

oh rly, we got like 30 mins warmup for our games at DHS and that was it

at DHS this year there were loads of games going on in the evenings

most live events are like that nowadays (99.99999999%)

I don't specifically want BYOC, just don't like that the number of PCs available is very limited. It doesn't look like they'll be time outside of tournaments to play. It's not very often people get to play lan, I guess I just to get as much as possible from it. 3 games wont even be enough to get used to lan ping! :)

I suppose it's just the "type" of event it is - focused on tournaments and spectating. Will be fun anyway, just not like I imagined.

You can sign up to all 3 tournaments, if you want to get stomped 9 times and spend $$ on the process

You are confusing BYOC LANs with "pro" competitions. As I said before, those are different things since several years. It's either BYOC, dreamhack summer and winter being great choices, or competing.

And you can spawn QL lan servers anyway.
