Event: DHW'11

The third and last day of the DreamHack Winter 2011 is starting Saturday 26th around 04:00 CDT with the TDM Finals, and then with the rest of the Duel tournament.

Lets hope they make all players autorecord and get all the configs (hud included) this time, and don't end up with mixed up cfg's and missing hud's..

Don't think most players would mind leaving a copy on some sort of shared folder :/? Setting up a Samba/NFS share doesn't take that long and would make it a bit easier for the admins if you ask me.

impression just watching stream:
- working perfectly here, the password fail in the beginning was funny (especially since it happened yesterday too) but shit happens, 30 seconds gone oh no.
- nvc and dis both doing a great job, some minor nerves and mistakes showing through (mostly nvc but then again that makes sense since dis so far barely speaks in comparison and a lot of it is questions for nvc) but nothing big
- good times all in all

impression just watching #lvl^ chat:
- worst laggy stream ever, god nobody can do anything right, nobody in there would have ever fucked up the password thing (which should be punishable by death)
- nvc is satan himself descended upon earth to destroy everything, making ears bleed as he drones on in the ancient forbidden Cthulhu language
- /wrist

You have no idea about TDM. It's a pity that scores wasn't close enough to bring more emotions, but the level of team play was so high. It was great game to watch and congrats to 300, they deserved the glory and peace in heaven like those legendary Spartans defending their country :D. They lost either in the fact :)

I never said I was a TDM expert. I'm speaking as a spectator. It was a boring final. Especially compared to the last dreamhack event and quakecon. Of course it was the highest level TDM available right now, I'm not disputing that. It was just not exciting to watch, and not particularly close to create any kind of suspense. It was fairly obvious the whole time. High-level play, sure, but boring for the spectators too.

In the other hand in TDM the score difference must be constantly oscillating in the range of 0-10 to be interesting for spectators. That's why TDM is not the best mode to spectate. In duel there is usually a chance of comeback and most of the top player's matches are pretty close games.

Cooller was making a nice comeback on t7 when he suddenly rushed into the teleporter @ mega (last thing k1llsen would except I guess), instead of waiting with rail/LG and ended up getting a couple of random facerockets and eventually lost control.

Hub was just a display of railwhoring and outlucking cooller in the last 45 sec.

Too bad the better player didn't win.

And why on earth are hub/tox/t7 the only maps I've seen. Are the maps fixed or smth? k1llsen would've been destroyed on dm13.

To me his reaction on toxicity was understandable. There is not much one can do against what rapha pulled out there.

Imho, the real mistake is how he approached the last map. Your mental has been destroyed by ridiculous performances? Fine, that happens. But now ask for a break, take a few minutes off to get your thoughts together (possibly gettin rapha out of that aiming zone). Make sure that you go the next map with your head clear!

Instead, everything went uberfast. Just a few minutes after going spec in toxicity, he was already giving away frag after frag in t7. That is not the way you you approach a decider map at this phase of the tournament.

I'm sad for strenx. I hope he will take the good out of this and learn an important lesson.

This was a huge peeve of mine during tournaments. Players requesting (rather, demanding) breaks because they couldn't keep their cool and knew it would hurt their performance the next game.

I'll be the first to admit I wasn't a saint when I played in matches and lost my cool every now and then, but I would never delay matches or anything of that nature because of my emotions. It isn't fair to my opponent that I want to take a 10 minute break to attempt to gather myself when they likely don't want a cool-down after playing so well.

There is no other sport/game out there that I'm aware of that allows players to take breaks just because they're upset at how they're playing.

Just a few words from here, to tell you my thinking about this year LAN, i m sad to see this game giving his last breath.

what can I say , imho this DH duel tourney is very low level, players doing so much important mistakes and so on. saw just few strong maps in all tourney. maybe it's becose of 30ping...

Yes, I have exactly same feeling. Many of players are impatient, make stupid midlevel moves. I get the impression they are all tired of the game and just want to finish games faster, 'cause it feels like it. Still hoping for crazy classic rapha-cypher final.

p.s. bo3 is fucking disgrace to quake. even sc2 has bo5 in semis...
