The icemat is an excellent surface, very even movement across it, and quite low friction.
As for optical mice, as i'm sure you've noticed the BLACK icemat does indeed appear to work with opticals, as it has been officially tested by microsoft and has been proven to work. However, the classic clear icemat didn't seem to like my Logitech dual optical at all, as it started to constantly 'skip' around by a few pixels as I moved it, and would occasionally send my mouse pointer directly up or down. Not very good when youre trying to frag someone :). So black icemat good, clear icemat not good, in your case :)

I've had the icemat for about 14 months, and I havent noticed any wearing or anything at all, and I clean it every few days or so. In comparion, I wore my everglide attack pad flat in 3 months, on about the same average usage per day. So I suppose that means that the icemat is fairly resistant :)))

an Icemat should last pretty much forever. Keep plenty of mousefeet around though, because I imagine you will start going through them pretty quickly. Especially if you're picky about them.

They said the Black IceMat works with Microsoft opticals, but does it work with logitechs? i have a Logitech Dual Optical and im looking for a new pad. IceMat is sounding mighty fine.

I've tried it with 2 different dual opticals and they seemed to work quite well. However, officialy dual opticals are NOT supported

i have an IME 3.0 and regular clear white icemat. It works perfectly. I have tried cloth, steelpad and icemat...the icemat clearly takes the crown =)

remember to place a sheet of paper under your mat, as the mouse will track on the surface underneath the glass - and if u go to a LAN with weird tables, then it might track a little differently.

Yer- get the black icemat for opti mouses - or.......go buy a clear glass textured cutting board for a 1/4 of the price from tesco in the UK or summit similar- they do exactly the same job, if not a little bigger:D

yep and your ratpad will be worn in about 3-4 months, personally i will be making my icemat work (when it gets here) because if my thoughts are right, i will not need to purchase a new mousemat for possibly a year or more...

no it will not, cause i use some kind of mouse skatez, it will not wear off then, or at least not much, i used a funcsurface with mouse skatez and i had it for over a year and its still as good as new :o)

I got mine icemat for 4 years and it still looks like new one :)

4 months of my goliathus speed being USED AS A WRISTREST FOR MY KEYBOARD and it looks like I gamed on it 24/7 365 for the past 10 years.. I don't sweat and I try to clean it once every few weeks with cold water and no soap.. ._.
