You are so lucky sound is not essential to watch Quake movies. The footage was good, and the RIP message a great thought.

But...

Even if it was good dubstep it would of been wrong. You even missed the first drop and had to force the editing to fit the music, it appeared like the music was dictating play more than the actual imagery. If you wanted dirty with that oldskool feel, you could of tried Kanji Kinetic or some of the Ran N Bone stuff. You might not like it, but at least it's true to its BPM! Dubstep is 70 bpm not 140. Horses for courses !!

Dubstep actually is 140, not 70bpm. If there were no swing, I'm sure it'd work fine. Since there is quarter note swing, changing dubstep to 70bpm results in eighth note swing, which would seem quite weird.

Dubstep is slow, the timing within its bpm seems to have little to do with the perceived tempo. 70bpm is a slow head nodding speed, not much fun to dance to. 140bpm is very much a dancefloor speed.

What i mean is, technically dubstep may be 140 but it feels 70.

Dubstep is probably the most selfish music i know of. If there is something a producer likes as an influence, whether it be 70, 140 or anywhere inbetween. If there is something they like it becomes dubstep. Some people even think it originated partly from dub reggae...

The "sound system culture" and heavy bass elements are influenced from dub, which is different from reggae, but still a variation on reggae.

Also reverb, lots of it, as in "brb 1970's rock music" kind of reverb.

I may of developed into it, but it most certainly didn't develop out of it. If you think that at the birth of Dubstep, people had Dub Reggae or straight Reggae in there minds, then you would be wrong.
Thinking about it, it wasn't even called Dubstep to start with, i think that was it's third name.

You're thinking of "sub-low", that would be a name that most of the original UK scene would recognize.

I know that it didn't come directly from dub, but the influence is there. AFAIK, dubstep was more directly influenced from dark garage like El-B and other 2-step stuff coming out before it's scene "died".

Yep that and 8bar before Grime decided both Sublow and 8bar belonged to it... It was weird and quite boring like a true "dub" of an already sparse tune. Most of it was missing a kick drum, often replacing it with a really detuned 808. The dark 2step instrumentals were alot better (at that time). We ran nights through the UK garage scene, up until the start of Dubstep, death of 2step. One of our resident DJ's just called them "Growlers", Best name for it imo : )

is there anyway to do defrag jumpin in ql? like u know when a player sligthly hits the side of a wall when strafing and it accelerates them?

you can clip walls in quake live, yes, if that is what you're asking

well yeah but I think it's some kind of a engine glitch, because you can say it "looks like it accelerates", but if you check the speedometer, there's no such thing besides normal strafe jump accelaration...

I suppose what you are trying to explain is the bug
within the Quake 3 engine called Over Bounce.
There is a hud called "Gaz-hud" which, when
correctly configurated shows all kinds of speed,
distances, accelarations.
Looking into this forum it occurs to me that very few
Q3 players really know what Defrag is and what it
is about.
