i agree on him beeing the #5 but so what? He didnt win any LAN tournament with the other 4 involved ever in any game (q3, ql). Yeah he may be on par with them right now but when it comes to overall success within the last decade he has nothing on the board while the other 4 have a ton.

cypher, cooller, rapha, av3k are the kings of quake duel when it comes to achievements. i hardly remember any other then those 4 winning something in the last couple of years (excluding q4 here, wich aint idtech3)

Retarded concepts. There are players with achievements in the last 4 years who quit quake, are you saying they are the ones that matter and are better than strenx since he has no LAN wins? Oh, the fact that he recently reached the finals actually means nothing, since he didn't win, so the 3, 4, 5, ....10 place finishers are better than him since they won something a few years ago. cooller has been considered in the top4 since forever and he didnt have any ql golds either (many in quake 3 - i dont give a fuck, fatality had many quake3 wins as well) till iem5eu
strenx has been taking 3rd place at almost every offline tournament for god knows how long now, has beaten all of the top4, and yes, been probably the best online dueler for a long time

so your argument is that strenx is awesome because of all his 3rd place finishers while cooller on the other hands sucks, even tho he mostly was 2nd place in those cups. also winning IEM europe doesnt matter while winning nothing does. also beeing 2nd at quakecon 2011 is awesome while beeing 2nd at quakecon 2010 is not

where exactly did i misinterpret your writings? as far as i read it youre saying strenx is onpar with the kings of duel because of his many 3rd placings and his 2nd place at this years quakecon.

so why would you consider him deserving a spot in those 4 over cooller, who not only had an incredible long dominance in q3 (dont know why that wouldnt matter to you when we talk about "kings of duel") but also was in most of the big finals of quakelive (much more than av3k)

in 2010 strenx had 7/8th placings (quakecon 2010) and was considered to have great potencial but hardly won in playoffs. remember that interview with carmac about beeing agressive? yeah

now in the late 2011 he finally placed better than cooller (by winning a close match if you saw it) and i srsly wonder why you would kick out c. instead of av3k of that list, who placed way worse in most events.

those 4 are the kings because of their long reign and top placings. you could consider strenx a prince or something but hes certainly not in the same categorie

i understood the phrase "four kings of quake" in the interview as refering to tournament wins and constant top notch placements in the last couple of years and not the pure skillevel of recent or the last few month. depending on that excluding strenx is either wrong or totally valid.

q4 is idtech4 and an entirely different game. tox wasnt a successful duelist in idtech3 game at all. he never won anything.. why do people think hes awesome at this? voO should be for the same reason then - no because of different mod/game? there you go..

Not in my opinion. The top four aspect comes from the fact that those four can all legitimately win a title. Sure you could make the case that perhaps Cooller and av3k are no longer in title winning form or their matchups have weakened against the other players, though I still think if av3k got Cypher in a final then it would be close to 50-50, whereas strenx has yet to prove he can win a title. Hell, he only just made his first ever final at the last event!

Sure in terms of actual ranking he's top 5 thanks to all those top 3 placings, but in terms of being an elite player he is still one step behind those four in my opinion.

I don't think that's fair. Av3k hasn't won a title in a long time.

In the mean time, strenx has beat EVERY SINGLE ONE of the elite players. There's no way he's not an elite player himself. In his latest tourney he beat cypher *and* cooller. In a few tournies before that he again beat cypher and cooller, as well as rapha. And in pretty much every tourny in the past year he beat av3k.

yep hes been better than av3k or at least as good as for a year now and av3k's last win in 2010 was missing both rapha and cooller so I don't really count that as a major win or anything id rather get second at quakecon!

Asking players to talk about other players worked very nicely this time with Avek. I liked his answers because they showed once more he is a nice person, and they are based on first-hand knowledge. Good insights on what made rapha exceptional.

you can tell he has just the slightest bit of jealous disdain for rapha's playstyle the way he talks about it, like he thinks its cheap or something. kind of funny. its almost respect but it seems to fall short of that.

I never really considered Avek to have as much of a personality as some of the more vocal players, but seeing this interview series really has opened my eyes to who he truly is (as much as you can gather from small interviews).

That being said, I have a newly found respect for him, and his dedication to what he loves. The way he talked at the end of this interview, where he reminisced about how good it felt to be placing well and winning so often, really made you understand how important it once was to him. He even went so far as to be considering giving everything up to follow quake more stringently. Some people call it lame, but I respect it.

Anyways, really cool interview set.
