It was a combination of it being shit, releasing around the same time as wow, half-life, cs:s, painkiller etc and irrational games dropping support on a patch that they apparently completed. The height of the game had 300 players online, and competition died after the first season of TWL (TWL is notoriously bad, but it has some significance to the tribes community since it was originally tribes warfare league)

Irrational games went on to use the same engine to make bioshock, and became a success. The tribes IP was on ice for about 6 years since vengeance released until Tribes: Universe was announced. Then they announced this saying it was going to be a Tribes 2 successor, but with the f2p business model and no modding or control over dedicated servers, it's hard to believe that. They've already limited weapons to just 2 weapons per class, and they've limited the amount of loadouts in an attempt to generate revenue from the business model.

I liked it but it's not like the old ones.

Yes unfortunately Hi-Rez has decided on using the F2P business model. They haven't released any information or even a pricing plan for the game, which is kind of why I made this blog. There's no way a beta phase can be done within the fall season and it seems the development cycle is still on alpha.

What we see, might be what we get.

I'm definitely going to keep my eye on this game but the f2p model really sucks imho.
