ps. the ladder you see there is in fact already dynamic, all it requires is the mechanics when people win or lose.

I was going to just make it a standard ladder where you can play the guy above you, and if you win you go up, but I had that idea in mind because of the low amount of players in SA. For esr what might be is a ELO rating, where you can challenge the top 5 people above you.

Style : I wouldn't put 2 much effort into this until everything else is done.

A Feature I would like: The ability to create your own league. For example, I could start a ZTN only duel league, it would have a start date and a sign up form. It would then run to a conclusion date the creater set. (it would require a minimum number of sign ups to begin).

Obviously this would create a huge amount of leagues, but I'd imagine they would be seperated from the main "overall" ones.

With regards to the ladder mechanics, It would be best to look at other ladders like SC etc and see what you think will work best for QL.

I'm sure people on esr will have some ideas of what they like anyway.

i play a lot of people similar skill so always close matches...having a ladder to represent it would be even more motivation to play more ;o

- Uploading demos from matches (improve your own game by watching other players POV)
- Advanced statistics (getting stats from quakelive.com match info, at the end of the tournament seeing your overall stats)

I've been wanting this kinda thing for so long now !!

My suggestions are that you get rankings for TDM, CTF, CA and DUEL.

But I'd also like that each teammode has a players ranking alongside the teams rankings, because it will not represent much at all considering the differenrt teams in different leagues, etc. (eg, spartie plays for fnatic in EMS and for TA in every other leagues).

Each player in the database should be linked only once if you see what I mean. Because then in the end, you can have an 'overall best QL players' based on their different rankings in each gamemode. I think for this to work, it needs to be ponderated with something as follow:

Order of importance (people can suggest other things, just an example):

- Duel 50%
- TDM 25%
- CTF 20%
- CA 5%

Also, you will probably need to start somewhere. You should select a few top players from each mode, league admins (used to seedings, etc), all kind of coverage people (disrepute, nvc..) that will at first select a significant number of players they find good enough to figure in the rankings (unless you do some kind of linked stats system with the quakelive site, i have no idea...) coupled with a public vote on the website. We could imagine that every now and then (2weeks ?) the judges and the public can revote and rework on the ladder..



Something like that would be awesome imo, dno what you think ?

EDIT: after reading calmly your site suggestion, I think I might be slightly off topic there... But these ideas remain, not exactly a ladder but a ranking system I'm talking about ;)

League part is okay anything you do. You can automate the time frame of leagues which can then have sups and sponsors or anything.

I think the main problem is the ladder. People arranging matches on the ladder requires a lot of work for bunch of guys playing for fun or on a lower level of competitive play.
Matches get fudged by not answering challenges, not noticing messages and lot's of stuff like that.

What you need is some sort of instant match making. Now that could be soled by implementing a irc channel into the site as a plug in or using a jscript plugin for a chat.

You see how many people are logged on the site, you find someone that is in your rank or pick randomly to get your ass whooped and click challenge:
-lighbox form appears and you have to give a server url and choose a gametype or ladder and time of the match within the hour.
-notification of challenge appears to the other player and he click approve which redirects to the match url

This way the ladder doesn't depend on your social life and real life obligations. You can get challenged only while you're logged on to the ladder. If you avoid the ladder you'll stagnate and won't progress.

Clanwars and scrims could have the same system implemented but with clan leader challenging and clan leader approving of the challenge. Then it's their responsibility to give match url to other clan mates.

Another thing to consider is stream checkbox which would notify people logged on as streamers that a match is scheduled so they can prepare and be notified automatically of the match

Wrong place > void). And tbh 1on1 CA can be more interesting than most people think, especially on the mappool i'm suggesting above.

thats a shame you're not using django, me and brandan spent a few days on rewriting esr (dev dot esreality.com) using same database for backwards compatibility.
there is a lot of work left, obviously. the sad (for esr) part is that web2py kind of sucks and your site cant be integrated with the current user DB. so i guess we'll write the ladders from scratch, as planned. so, please, don't call it 'esr league'

I personally started something like 6 month ago developing in django and it's a treat. I have yet to get proficient with python but even with low tier python knowledge you can produce some pretty radical and big stuff without choking on the code.

I'll look into web2py but really can't promise to bother since I'm already spending time on django as is.
